I would imagine that the makers knew that it would need to be taken apart in order to be moved more easily, especially for upstairs bedrooms that would need wardrobes. Very smart design!
Instant closet! ...with a shelf and drawer! Lovely! I just bought an old wooden chest to hold some table linens. After cleaning it, it still had a slight 'old wood' smell, so I put some dried balsam needles and cinnamon sticks in an open top, wax sandwich bag and tucked it in the corner of the chest. Perfect! As far as I know, 'silver soldered' is a type of silver plating. Your piece is Reed and Barton, which is good quality and very collectible. It is a nice one!! I'd use it as a food cloche, maybe for fruit. I've been pestered by fruit flies this summer and have to keep any grapes, peaches, strawberries, etc, covered.
I live in Taunton, MA where Reed and Barton used to be! (they closed in 2015) They had designed and manufactured the medals for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
What you bought is called a traveling wardrobe for the reason you have discovered - it comes apart for transportation. I, too, had one. A great Victorian invention.
If you sand the balls you should be able to smell the ceder. I’m curious to see how the wardrobe would look against the outside wall, you too? If there’s a number 80 or 90 on the silverware, than is this the thickness of the silver plating. Otherwise it says 800 or 9hondred something.
Hi, there! Just started watching your channel! The wardrobe is beautiful! I never seen one that comes apart. Very unique! I will be scanning your other videos. Good job!🥰👍💜
Yay! I lost your channel some time back (not sure how but I hear TH-cam has had an unsubscribe glitch). I couldn’t find you again but TH-cam suggested this video and when I realized it was you I couldn’t hit Subscribe quick enough. Now I can also go back and view what I’ve missed (probably 4 or more months!)
When you questioned what could go on the shelf above, my first thought was hats, and there they are! Yes, the wardrobe looks like it has always been there. Beautiful! Oh, that chemise! 😍 Who is she and what is her story? So glad you are back. You were greatly missed. ❤️
I raised boxers! I had a female in the 1995 until 2009, her name was Princess Isabella. She loved us as a family, but love and protected my/her children. She lived to be 14 years old. I crochet and she loved to wear my hats.
Wardrobe is a great find. A beautiful antique and the silver dish with the lid is also beautiful. You may want to hang a full length mirror on the inside of the wardrobe door for your daughter, now that the wardrobe has found a permanent home. You could not have put it in a better place. Ben is for sure a helpful and skilled handy man. You are blessed. Walter loves to supervise. I think he has adopted you. :) Have fun!
Nice buy. I have heard of furniture called campaign furniture that was designed to be pulled apart for removal. The ones I have seen on tv were quite heavy but I am not of the age.
Rumson Country club is in Rumson, N.J. Y can start your search there. Rumson is a very expensive area with beautiful homes. Bruce Springsteen had a home there.
Lots of furniture, especially bedroom furniture was designed to come apart in small pieces. The reason is obvious there were no elevators in private homes lots of bureau and chest of doors broke down into three pieces and wardrobes came apart in lots of pieces. Enjoy your treasure.

A coat of Annie Sloane wax for the closet to add moisture to the wood and it will polish up nicely. Orange oil will eliminate any odors
The Wardrobe i think is what they call this Campaign furniture it can be shipped any where.

That is a very nice find. Good job.😊
Amazing how that wardrobe was made. I wonder when was built and why they put all that effort into having it come apart.
Love the wardrobe. Everything is coming together nicely. You and Mat have done an amazing job.

Are the round wooden balls, cedar? To keep the moths away?
I think so!!

Itvis a "knock down" piece meaningful it comes completely apartmaking it easy to move on a wagon. No screws or nails. I have had a few thru the years.
That was fun!
It really was! 💕💕

Very hauntingly beautiful music at the end! But I didn’t see what music you used, can you say who it’s from?👍🏻

Neat! Thanks for sharing!! 💕💕💕
It looks very much like your Rumson County Club had a Swastika placed on their silver.
What a beautiful piece…neat how to came apart to move.
I know! I couldn’t believe it 💕💕

Just a note: solder is pronounced “sawder.” Beautiful cabinet.
Ha awesome!! Thanks for that 😊

I should imagine the balls are cedar to guard against moths. The silver platter they were stored in is a beautiful gesture of mutual regard🫶
Yesss!!! 💕💕
