New San Martin’s uses exact same Miyota Movements as Grand Seiko. So that means they’re serviceable at any Boutique that services any Seiko watch with Miyota Movements. That hits it out of the park.
I mean honestly, you can’t go wrong with almost any San Martin, and as they start putting out more and more original designs, they are going to become more and more undeniable. Thanks for the great list!
@@WATCHingJamesI'm thinking the blue version may get sold out during this round of sales coming soon. I may just buy it prior to the sale because..."you cant take it with you"
Got the SN0144 in red, absolutely spectacular and finally with the movement that it deserve ( mine is running at +1sec btw...) price was excellent too (early release pricing, ended up paying $384CDN...) Cheers
Hi James, I took a long break from San Martin watches, and now I'm obsessed with them again. Btw, I'm preparing a similar video, and my picks are 90% different from yours 😅.
I’ve been looking at the Proxima PX1721 and was wondering what your take would be on the SW200 or the PT5000… I hear they are similar but the SW200 is Swiss made and regulated but much more expensive. I love the look tho and was also wondering what your thoughts are on the $289.00 price tag (although the adventurine dial may make it worth the price?)
If it’s a watch you will keep long term then the sellita is worth considering. I’ve bought a couple with that intent but then ended up selling them after a year or so. So I wished at that point I had not paid the extra. I’ve owned lots of pt5000 and not had any issues with them. But have heard a few stories now of people who have.
Now on my second watch with the pt. The first was a disaster, totally dead within a couple of hours. I believe the watch was faulty before I received it. Coincidentally, it was a San Martin (the only one I’ve almost owned), in the 11.11. Sale. Fair play to San Martin for prompt refund. My second pt is running faultlessly so very happy.

i just got a north edge gavia 2 worth $200 for $60 (a part quartz and part smart watch, my first smart watch 😥) but still a bargain that pilots watch with the onion crown looks fantastic what do you think of a vulcain watch i just missed out on a vintage one for £35 on ebay when others where going for at least £200
I have recently bought the sm57 homage in the black reverse panda. The case, dial, and movement are superb. The bracelet is very bad. The polished sections, particularly the end links, distort very badly, making it look like that chrome effect plastic. I can't live with it and I'm hunting for a president style bracelet that will fit. I may end up getting an aqua terra style rubber strap with deployant clasp. I live the watch, such a shame about the bracelt finishing. It's like a different company made it. All the best.
This was a surprisingly contradictory video. Upfront you were (rightfully) pointing out some of the issues with San Martin in the past, like boring dials, lack of originality and overuse of identical parts. And then you gave us a list of old and very old San Martin models that all fall exactly into this category of well made but sort of repetitious and uninspiring watches. Yes, you had the brand new SN0144 at the end showing that SM has improved a lot over their weaknesses. But that doesn’t help the video being one of missed opportunities. You can do better, James.
I did notice that too when I went to do the edit. Sorry about that. When I revisit this idea for a video in the future I’ve already noted to do a “top 10” of their original designs.
@ And you are going to notice that some things unfortunately have not changed yet like their tendency to use known parts (cases, case backs, bracelets, clasps, hands) over and over again. I guess it’s a cost saving measure. It reminds me of a typical mediocre Chinese restaurant that seemingly offers 100 dishes while in reality it’s just a handful of ingredients in every possible combination.
I've purchased a few San Martin watches. Due to my own ignorance I did not realize they were homages to expensive Swiss watches. While the SM watches were fine in every respect, I am now reluctant to wear them. Especially when in the company of acquaintances that own the real Swiss designs.
they are best worn for fooling gold-diggers and those who judge others by their watches-the joke is on them-I wear mine anytime i go somewhere i want to avoid damaging or losing my luxury watches
They are not for everyone. But I just wear and buy what I like and I can afford. I have lots of friends with some very high pieces who also own san Martin. Some even have the homages to their own watches.
99% of people pay no attention to the watch you are wearing. If you like the San Martins you have bought keep wearing them, maybe not when with the friends/colleagues that have the genuine articles if that makes you feel uncomfortable, but the rest of the time wear what you like on your wrist.
Actually the oxford dictionary defines it as: homage, n. In extended use: acknowledgement of superiority in respect of rank, worth, beauty, or some other quality; reverence, dutiful respect, or honour shown...
It's all a good argument do what you want it's not a fake watch that says Rolex across the dial and if someone ask you what your watch is you're going to say some brand they've never heard of & that's ok
They just keep getting better and better

I’m excited to see what they come out with next. I can foresee my next top 10 will only feature their unique designs
Thanks James. San Martin appears to be gaining traction in the marketplace.
They definitely feel like they are breaking out of AliExpress.
@@WATCHingJames Long Island Watch sell them now.
Thank you James ... I am going to pick up that last one in blue, just like yours. It’s going to match the color of my brand new Audi Q3!
It is the best watch I’ve seen in AliExpress this year.
I absolutely love it.

I could easily have ordered all the colours. But that might have been a little bit over the top for me.
Is that the Atlantean sword in the background? Awesome 🙌Thanks for great content as always.
Yes. Good spotting. One of my favorite things I own.
It is the Marto official version.

Hahahaha. Perfect. Gives people some more diverse content to watch.
@WATCHingJames to be fair some of the watches you mentioned I've already recommended in previous videos, hehe.

A great watch

I think they look very cool. I did consider a cricket for a while.
What is a sub seconds registry?? Is it the same as a sub seconds registER?
Hahahahaha. Thanks for WATCHing
You don’t think the logo is an issue?
I really like the logo. I know it’s not for everyone but it feels symmetrical and a reminds me a bit of a shield.

if only i had a bigger watch box james. the disease is real my friends
It is very very real.
Honestly, all of them are quite boring, except for the last one. SN0144 is great!
The SN0144 has been on my wrist almost every day since it arrived.

Why care what others think?
Men don’t care what others might think of them. I don’t want to sound harsh but I learned this 36 years ago when I was 30.
