Could this public consultation be the first glimpses of the proposed Minecraft land and rollercoaster that was doing the rounds on social media a few months ago? It certainly adds up, let's discuss!
tbh a multi-dimensional coaster themed around Minecraft could be pretty sick! lots of cave theming and stuff indoors, a trip to the nether or whatever is the creepy place these days (I've not played it in around 12 years). All in all pretty solid shout that. Wonder if they would turn that Mexicana plot into "CBBC Land" and have it themed around some of the stuff for slightly older kids?
Im on the other side of the argument that it would be a bad choice, if they are trying to combat Universal or at least soften the blow, then merlins idea of simplistic wont work, it needs to be Jumanji level and i just dont think they will do that for Minecraft, like you said they're likely to go simplistic.
I'm weirdly intrigued by this project! Minecraft as an IP does have a lot of potential for creative premises, it's nowhere close to losing its cultural relevance (especially after its resurgence in 2020), and its simplistic style suits Merlin to a tee whilst still leaving them with room for self-improvement. However, I am hoping that Merlin's more original IPs like Animal Treasure Island (Gardaland's I Corsari replacement) end up taking off, since that'd be a much more exciting direction for them to take.

@@TeamTheme It's been going since 09 / 2011.. it may still be popular of course but it just feels like they've been a few years too late if that makes sense. I'm sure it's still miles ahead in terms of sales etc and the movie will help it, just feels like 13 years later after its debut is a little... outdated?
The coaster could also be the type of ride that mission ferrari is, if chessington wants to step up and be a competitor to universal, thats their best option.
I do like this development a new coaster could be awesome hoping Multi Dimension Rollercoaster would suit Chessington Well, a little disappointed that Wild Asia is leaving as I do like the temple aesthetics around that area and also this development means 3 Flat Rides will be removed removing some Capacity
Kobra is staying just removed so that's something and it's not stated what the other indoor ride could be so we'll just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed for that multi-dimensional!
I can’t believe they’re getting rid of the best and probably most immersive area of the park (apart from the random green poles) to replace it with a supposed Minecraft land. Kobra is one of the coolest themed zamperla disk’os too, mainly the cobra heads on each side. Wild asia is what made me love chessington and I don’t want it to go. Also rip mexicana but i mean rattlesnake isnt that good so there could be a worthy replacement for it. Nvm rattlesnake is safe. At least mexicana is safe and its good that we’re no longer keeping scorpion express after all these years.

Alton Towers doesn't seem to be getting much love and attention currently I'd much rather this go to a park that is being supported financially and well invested in with these kinds of projects. Hope you feel better soon and shoot me a message whenever you feel up to it!
@@LiftHillsandThrills it is sad that Alton Towers doesn't seem to be getting the investment, however I 'suspect' it's more of a Merlin issue than a towers issue... I think towers has had lots of forbidden valley investment, and I 'think' there are things which spread to other places which has resulted in the current lack of investment 😅 Thank you 😄 I do have an exciting idea I think you'll be interested in, and I can't wait to discuss it with you 😄
Would be nice to see Project Play get a brand new and modern Bubbleworks recreation. It's evident Bubbleworks is very much missed, and Chessington even brought out retro merch for the ride in the Gruffalo shop. Once that's built, and the IP contract ends, Gruffalo could be removed completely for another future ride space and a Vampire sparkle project.
Super excited about Chessington it's my local park and have a lot of love for it and have made some amazing memories there not to sure what the Minecraft theme all about but hay let's go with it like you, I think it's going to be a multi-dimensional coaster. very much like the one of Puerto Ventura as you say Uncharted so let's see where it goes

It sad to see the park original coaster Scorpion Express close for good as it was a fun ride plus had some nice theming. I hope also with the regeneration of the park they could bring back a legendary star Professor Burps Bubbleworks in a new form.

With rumours Chessington was going to have a intamin quadbike, and towers was going to have a multidimensional, I see that Towers will now get a quadbike coaster (the darkkoaster model fits perfectly inside horizons building) whilst Chessy gets a multi-dimensional.

If Merlin do bring in the minecraft IP i feel like it would not fit in with the rest of the park a game about crafting, building, exploring with blocks it doesn’t feel right. 100% no doubt about it but Towers will still get a similar ride from the manufacturer as I imagine contracts have been signed I just don’t think it’ll be similar to this one in anyway shape or form now. It seems as though Chessy is now having the better model
I know it's only a drawing, and probably shouldn't read into it too much... But to me, that outdoor track looks like Mack/Gerstlaur track. It appears intamin no longer use this style of track, (I think Taron was the last) and have gone to 2 rail track for family coasters (Gold Rush) or there modern spine track (Velocity, Toutatis, ext) Also, Mack Stryker coasters are similar to both Gerstlaur Infinitys aswell as Intamin multi-dimention coasters (Bounce track/turntables/launches) All depends though, because Macks seats are 1.3m minimum I think.. and again, could be reading into this too much, but in my opinion, it could be a possibility 🤷♂️
Ive had plenty of ideas for Minecraft attractions but idk now, it just feels a bit tacky. Minecraft feels too cheap of a brand for Alton Towers or Thorpe Park but it also doesn't really suits Chessington's nature theme. Given the choice I would probably go with LEGO Minecraft for Legoland, of all the parks Minecraft suits Legoland's colourful & playful vibe

Its good to hear now with the potential of Universal Studios GB coming along maybe in future that Merlin Parks are talking about this a.k.a Chessington WOA, but I do have a worry though and a bit of doubt. Especially as how much detail goes into making lands come to life & be immersive. I know World of Jumanji will look epic once planting is all grown, but with this and if it is Minecraft? How much will Merlin invest to make it immersive? Make it feel like you have stepped into World of Minecraft? Because I have a doubt feeling the amount of theming they will add is minimal, when it could be immersive and 100% epic level like both Disney & Universal do? Do you think it will be an immersive area or just bits of theming with maybe a square or few around land & wallpaper? Because I hope it will be fiberglass, structures etc? But I am doubting that is what will happen? But sounds all exciting, especially with a new coaster and cannot wait to see what happens to land & what the IP will be once opened. I think they could make it very immersive and with the simplistic nature of how basic the video game looks they could make it look incredible without splashing the cash too much. The dark ride needs to be done VERY well... that's the main focus point of the area but I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it, World of Jumanji is a very small space but it's done very well, could always be better (of course) but for the UK, that's a nice area! and cheers man! That was some time ago for sure!
From a pure business point of view, towers is too big, and the supporting infrastructure like the skyride and monorail cost a lot to maintain and run, so it makes sense for merlin to let towers go and concentrate there efforts around the 3 cheaper to run smaller southern parks to compete with universal.
I think towers deserves a ride that's a lot better than a indoor coaster. after my trip to Orlando i would love to a Intamin multi launch come to the park
I think this Minecraft theme isn’t ideal, but it will definitely bring more people to the park which is good, but it’s sad about Mexicana I would’ve liked them to keep the western theme
If Minecraft Land happens, the rollercoaster needs to have a Minecart kind of ride, the trains need to be Minecarts, and also it’ll be cool theming too. Hopefully following the Minecraft story of Steve & Alex.
Also Universal UK definitely will need a Dog Man ride, and a Dav Pilkey themed area with stuff like Captain Underpants. Or maybe another park, all this because of the new Dog Man movie by Universal.

Think it’s a shame to see the park moving away from the whole ‘world’ of adventures theme with the world areas but if the trade off is investment and a new coaster its a fair give and take

I'm not really a fan of IPs at theme parks. Chessington seems to have a bright future ahead and could this be the reason Temple of Mayhem has been closed this year? The 'my first' coaster seems to be a Scorpion Express replacement
I don't think that Minecraft would fit in with Alton towers OR chessington but its nice to see investment especially with dark horse universal on the horizon (possibly/probably/maybe)
I hope it is not at the expense of Alton Towers and project Horizon, but that would be so cool. Just told my son and he was like OMG!!!!!!’ It’s very popular with young and old gamers

It's lovely just very run down but I agree the Minecraft iP whilst for me seems to be fading there's still a massive nostalgia boost (it was made in 2009) for those who grew up with it!

I love that they wanna build things but I think there going to completely ruin the whole fun and point of chessington it’s about exploring things around the world like woods dragon and Egypt and the fact there removing lots of thrill rides and making mexicana a kids area will ruin it / I don’t like scary rides I prefer family ones but chessington will become a park for small kids like most kids I know like the big rides / I absolutely adore chessington I’ve loved it since I first went and there changing everything that made it good / I hope they release that this will change the industry
I don’t think this area is a big concern for me personally that entire surrounding area is more family friendly anyways and Chessington still has a nice mix of rides for all ages, it’s always been a more family friendly park but it’s a fun park and I think it’ll be done well. Chessington is the only hope Merlin has of good theming aha when I first visited any of these parks for the first time I was so impressed with Chessy and I’m sure that’ll continue with these new developments
Sad they are not doing their own ideas. IPs have a shelf life… if you think of vampire, bubbleworks, terror tomb etc some of the favourites are the parks own creations… wild Asia is nicely themed too. If anything re-do Mexicana and turn gruffalo back to bubbleworks.
Some IP’s do last, I mean Minecraft started in what 09 / 2011 thereabouts and it’s still relevant and still the best selling game, I can’t see it slowing down for a bit
@@LiftHillsandThrills Minecraft is not a bad IP and my son will be so excited about this! So don’t get me wrong… I’d just like to see some unique ideas. Bubble works and 5th dimension I still remember to this day having only visited the park a couple of times back in my youth (I’m that old lol).
I would much rather Minecraft go to Chessington rather than Towers. But I would prefer a different IP for Chessington altogether rather than Minecraft. Minecraft is such an old game and surely has less longevity than a different one. I cant wait for Universal as it's going to put all the Merlin parks to shame. Thank you for the videos as always 💙
Towers is getting investment chessington is getting a lot of investment. There must be something in it for Thorpe? I know they just got Hyperia but chessington got mandrill last year. I think they must have something in the works- something big

When they start building universal studios in the UK hopefully soon and when it opens do you think more people will go there then ? What rides would you like to see there
100% more people will go there, Merlin will very quickly become 2nd to a very strong 1st position of theme park dominance in Universal. I'd like them to recreate popular IP's that have had success worldwide first before they start experimenting with new stuff and using us as a testing ground

To be honest a minecraft roller coaster would be competition to universal if they choose to put a super Nintendo world there! Sounds like they want a 2025 or 2026 opening for project play and 2027 opening for minecraft land

Can’t confirm I’m afraid all I know is that Merlin sent a survey out to discuss bringing Minecraft IP to Towers / Chessington as people disregarded the DO NOT SHARE text and started talking about it on socials
I’m genuinely kinda fearful about when all the late 90s & early 00s reach end of life that they’ll just be gutted like the flats were with not much in the way of replacement other than maybe one short family coaster. But after what feels to me like horizon’s cancellation maybe not even a family coaster
Strange that rattlesnake is not included in the devolvement. Shame of what we have lost at towers we had such a good opportunity. I am not a fan of the IPs as they run out and become out dated. It will end up chessingtons 4th IP??? It seems to be turning into more of a park based around Ips more than animals. Its turning into a studios park 🤣
Minecraft has been going for many many many years and is still 2024's best selling game which speaks volumes of its longevity so I think the IP will be fine but I agree with you regarding the IP's over the animals I believe there are plans in the works for the animals to be relocated / removed in some cases with some of the enclosures being not fit for purpose (Gorillas / Lions especially)

It’s possible but no I agree with you, with Minecraft being simply designed etc I can imagine them doing a good job with this
The Minecraft potential ip is massive and the theming could be incredibly impressive given its simplicity.

Rattlesnake hasn't been circled in the redevelopment proposals so it looks as thought that's safe... Scorpion Express however....

That's also quite possible although with the theme that Horizon was linked to a quad bike coaster doesn't fit whatsoever

I think they could make it very immersive and with the simplistic nature of how basic the video game looks they could make it look incredible without splashing the cash too much. The dark ride needs to be done VERY well... that's the main focus point of the area but I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it, World of Jumanji is a very small space but it's done very well, could always be better (of course) but for the UK, that's a nice area! and cheers man! That was some time ago for sure!
I was at Chessington last week and the World of Jumanji is already looking much better now the trees are growing in.

From a pure business point of view, towers is too big, and the supporting infrastructure like the skyride and monorail cost a lot to maintain and run, so it makes sense for merlin to let towers go and concentrate there efforts around the 3 cheaper to run smaller southern parks to compete with universal.

Paultons Park is awesome. It does my head in that's it's so far from me up in the Midlands lol. I do have Alton Towers very close to me though.

I think towers deserves a ride that's a lot better than a indoor coaster. after my trip to Orlando i would love to a Intamin multi launch come to the park

I think this Minecraft theme isn’t ideal, but it will definitely bring more people to the park which is good, but it’s sad about Mexicana I would’ve liked them to keep the western theme
I did enjoy Mexicana and the land will bring in a LOT of people, that's for sure
If Minecraft Land happens, the rollercoaster needs to have a Minecart kind of ride, the trains need to be Minecarts, and also it’ll be cool theming too. Hopefully following the Minecraft story of Steve & Alex.
Also Universal UK definitely will need a Dog Man ride, and a Dav Pilkey themed area with stuff like Captain Underpants. Or maybe another park, all this because of the new Dog Man movie by Universal.

Think it’s a shame to see the park moving away from the whole ‘world’ of adventures theme with the world areas but if the trade off is investment and a new coaster its a fair give and take

I'm not really a fan of IPs at theme parks. Chessington seems to have a bright future ahead and could this be the reason Temple of Mayhem has been closed this year? The 'my first' coaster seems to be a Scorpion Express replacement

I think this is a bad idea as wild Asia is a lovely area and I think Minecraft won’t fit in that location, but it 10000% will have a HUMUNGOUS draw
It's lovely just very run down but I agree the Minecraft iP whilst for me seems to be fading there's still a massive nostalgia boost (it was made in 2009) for those who grew up with it!

I love that they wanna build things but I think there going to completely ruin the whole fun and point of chessington it’s about exploring things around the world like woods dragon and Egypt and the fact there removing lots of thrill rides and making mexicana a kids area will ruin it / I don’t like scary rides I prefer family ones but chessington will become a park for small kids like most kids I know like the big rides / I absolutely adore chessington I’ve loved it since I first went and there changing everything that made it good / I hope they release that this will change the industry
I don’t think this area is a big concern for me personally that entire surrounding area is more family friendly anyways and Chessington still has a nice mix of rides for all ages, it’s always been a more family friendly park but it’s a fun park and I think it’ll be done well. Chessington is the only hope Merlin has of good theming aha when I first visited any of these parks for the first time I was so impressed with Chessy and I’m sure that’ll continue with these new developments
Sad they are not doing their own ideas. IPs have a shelf life… if you think of vampire, bubbleworks, terror tomb etc some of the favourites are the parks own creations… wild Asia is nicely themed too. If anything re-do Mexicana and turn gruffalo back to bubbleworks.
Some IP’s do last, I mean Minecraft started in what 09 / 2011 thereabouts and it’s still relevant and still the best selling game, I can’t see it slowing down for a bit
@@LiftHillsandThrills Minecraft is not a bad IP and my son will be so excited about this! So don’t get me wrong… I’d just like to see some unique ideas. Bubble works and 5th dimension I still remember to this day having only visited the park a couple of times back in my youth (I’m that old lol).

I would much rather Minecraft go to Chessington rather than Towers. But I would prefer a different IP for Chessington altogether rather than Minecraft. Minecraft is such an old game and surely has less longevity than a different one. I cant wait for Universal as it's going to put all the Merlin parks to shame. Thank you for the videos as always 💙

The Minecraft IP I am not for or against so long as its done well then it couod be something special, we have seen IPs used many times done well.
It's simplistic in terms of how it looks, suits Merlin's budget down to a tee so I imagine it might actually look incredible! aha

100% more people will go there, Merlin will very quickly become 2nd to a very strong 1st position of theme park dominance in Universal. I'd like them to recreate popular IP's that have had success worldwide first before they start experimenting with new stuff and using us as a testing ground

To be honest a minecraft roller coaster would be competition to universal if they choose to put a super Nintendo world there! Sounds like they want a 2025 or 2026 opening for project play and 2027 opening for minecraft land

Did Merlins Entertainment just recently talked to Mojang Studios and Warner Bros for the Minecraft IP coming to Chessington?
Can’t confirm I’m afraid all I know is that Merlin sent a survey out to discuss bringing Minecraft IP to Towers / Chessington as people disregarded the DO NOT SHARE text and started talking about it on socials
Starting to get a bit sick of my home park getting kneecapped, Alton might not even be top 5 UK park by then end of the decade...
They've been weak lately, there's a reason why Thorpe Park won best theme park at todays awards, it's not even close anymore
I’m genuinely kinda fearful about when all the late 90s & early 00s reach end of life that they’ll just be gutted like the flats were with not much in the way of replacement other than maybe one short family coaster.
But after what feels to me like horizon’s cancellation maybe not even a family coaster

Strange that rattlesnake is not included in the devolvement. Shame of what we have lost at towers we had such a good opportunity. I am not a fan of the IPs as they run out and become out dated. It will end up chessingtons 4th IP??? It seems to be turning into more of a park based around Ips more than animals. Its turning into a studios park 🤣
Minecraft has been going for many many many years and is still 2024's best selling game which speaks volumes of its longevity so I think the IP will be fine but I agree with you regarding the IP's over the animals I believe there are plans in the works for the animals to be relocated / removed in some cases with some of the enclosures being not fit for purpose (Gorillas / Lions especially)
