I don't see any advantage being an ally of the US or any superpower. Recently, the ICC declared Netanyahu a war criminal and issued an arrest warrant. Several countries, including Canada, France, Spain, and Italy, suggested that they would enforce the warrant if he steps in their country. The US immediately said that they would cripple that country's economy through sanctions and embargoes. This is what superpowers do if you disagree with them. These are countries allied with the US. If the US decides to attack Iraq or Afghanistan, allies are required to send troops into those countries to fight with the US. Trump said that any NATO country that is unable or unwilling to pay their portion of fees and costs will be removed from membership. Allies today are just vassal states. India today enjoys good relationships with the US and Russia and freely trade with all countries, Why would India want to ruin that?

unfortunately, Germany is finding out now, what it means to be a "friend" - its being a vassal state that is implementing policies dictated by the US that is really hurting the country.
