It could be argued that all early silent era directors are overrated as all the things they invented have been perfected by other directors after. Lubitsch was initiated in his depictions of sexuality and attacks on authority figures, which Billy wilder latter mastered. Wilder even had a sign in his office saying "what would Lubitsch do". Also check out the mountain cat it is my favourite silent Lubitsch film.
