I had a similar thought, she has an amazing voice and tons of control. Funnily enough I thought she and Miguel did the best jobs at the Cornell Tribute.
It felt like the 'rock' singers were really struggling or just trying to yell their way through and the 'pop' singer had way more control and power.

The thing you gotta remember about a lot of rock fans is we're losers lmao. We grow up feeling like outcasts etc. So we kind of just have this disdain for anything popular that the "normal kids" like. As I became an adult it became so obvious to me that I hated so much music for literally no reason other than it was what people liked at the time. Miley Cyrus is the perfect example of this. Her father was a famous musician who grew up in the 70s and 80s, you don't think he played rock music around her growing up? She clearly has a genuine love for bands like Metallica, Zeppelin, etc. But because she was Hannah Montana and the girl who twerked at some awards show a certain type of rock fan who never grew up will still hate on her for no reason. She is a decent singer and is a fan of this music. Enough said. There's no reason for anyone to be embarrassed because they played with her.

Metallica have reached a level of success where they can do what ever the hell they want, and if they want to do a duet with a pop icon then why the hell not? I've been a fan of Metallica since the 80's before they had a high degree of commercial success, back then they were heavy as fuck, by the time they released the black album there were bands who were faster, and heavier, and more technical then they would ever be, but they did what they wanted, and released an amazing commercially successful metal album, which by the way still had some really heavy shit on it (sad but true, struggle within come to mind). I liked the duet, and I think Miley is genuine fan and is coming from a sincere place. Hell I think she'd make a cool metal vocalist.

Hi Justin, loving the show, new watcher, first time commenter. Love the analysis, firm but opinionated! Not passive aggressive sarcasm I promise, rather genuine appreciation for the playful opinion, delivered in a comedic style. Comments sections can be the twitter of life, leading to tribalism. However, we are in the fledgling era of our internet. It's childhood if you will. We're drawn to things that please us, and dubious/ afraid of that which challenges our comfort. We need guidance and love to see us through to the next phase intact. Playful banter such as that you deliver, is already helping us back to being able to discuss our differences in a non-cynical discourse, which allows the most important organ to re-engage during social intercourse, our ears, and the pathways to reason and mutual understanding within us. I have new found insight of your own musical prowess and intuition through these clips, and respect the grounding of your comments. Whilst I don't agree with every utterance, we are basically on the same page in that all music has a place but rock well... ROCKS! Only minor off putting aspect to these videos is the constant bombarding from the "still struggling to master the Guitar" brigade advertisements, and their pyramid "I'll make you a competent player in weeks" schemes (which I have to admit play to the insecurities of plinky plonker never had the discipline to practice properly "guitarist" like myself). With their "listen till the end of my video of half an hour-40mins (or whatever the algorithm for you tube requires for them to make money) before I'll reveal the secret to effortless rock godship, along with the cost". The actual secret being (spoiler alert!) find something you like then learn it. Hey Ho I'll keep plonking and live vicariously through my many children. Much love

Miley is a vocal beast. Once I heard her cover Janis's version of 'Maybe' and Blondie's Heart of Glass, I was a jaw dropping fan. This performance cemented it. She's phenomenal. I love Metallica and she nailed it.

It was a rocking start to a show back in 2004 and the Darkness in full swing when my band mate and I decided this would be a great time to throw our CD on stage in the hope one of the band or crew would pick it up! With a powerful flick of the wrist the CD wizzed over the Wembley crowd and almost took Dan out, subsequently the crowd parted and we were pulled by our scruffs and ejected from the show…..oops! Gutted! Only three songs in too. But those three songs were eventful. I did manage to see the whole show at the Camden Roundhouse many years later. Bloody great stuff!

I would love to hear a whole collaborative album with Metallica and Miley. I think her voice is perfect for rock now as demonstrated here. Plus, it has to be better than Lulu.
Which I actually kind of like.

I remember for the longest time not giving her any credence. Then my daughter started listening to her and showed me her singing with the Doors and many other stuff outside of her normal stuff, and I now firmly believe she is one of the best vocal talents of her generation.

As someone who's liked Miley Cyrus since I worked in a movie theatre and happened to spend an evening waiting for my ride home to show up by watching the hannah montana movie and subsequently finding Miley's amazing singing voice through The Climb and then checking out her early albums before ignoring her "R&B" phase entirely. I'm pretty happy she's returned to her country and rock roots and hope she continues to do so. Her early biography book (Miles to Go) before she did all that rap stuff was also a particularly inspiring read for a young impressionable youth. As a fan of metallica it's great to see the duet. It reminds me of Babymetal and Rob Zombie's defense of them when people tried to say they weren't metal; good music is good music.

Somehow, from a random suggestion, this has become my favourite channel.. it’s just so engaging and refreshing in amongst the bullshit we have to listen to nowadays. Nothing else matters was the first dance at our wedding and we have the lyrics are displayed on the wall in our downstairs toilet. I'll get slated for this, but here goes.....Rock/Punk (for me) has to have authenticity, it's not about having a great voice or wankathon guitar skills, it's about living or have lived what you're performing. Imperfections have a quality of their own. Manufactured, groomed, xfactor type performers will never have that.

During lock-down Miley did covers of famous songs on her You-Tube channel, she always picked songs with mega vocals from different genres, and she was amazing. She has damaged her vocal chords by being overworked by the machine when she was young, that's why her voice is lower now and more gritty, sounds perfect for rock tho'
