@@_mango_ Same for me, Tom and Jerry, Pokémon (up until Gen 4) and also Billy & Mandy.
Boomerang Latin America sucks ass. From 2009 to 2014 it was filled with purely "girly" live action shows, and nowadays it is filled with "rejected" shows, like My Knight and Me.
Apparently there is this latin american channel called Tooncast which airs nothing but the good old shows. Sadly its not available in my country as far as I know.

I think the main reason CN can't go back to how it used to be is mainly due to the fact that, for some reason, Hanna-Barbara filed a lawsuit against the network.
Which in turn (to my knowledge) led to all of the HB programs to be pulled off CN. Even now with Boomerang, a channel that once advertised that those programs would be seen there, no longer shows them.
Even after all these years, why hasn't the lawsuit been resolved

I think we would have lost classic feeling of the CN era, even without a "CN Real" type show. Mainly because of the internet. We now can see behind the curtain because of Twitter, Tumblr, TH-cam, etc. It'd be super hard to maintain, not impossible, but still really hard.

  • @sadlobster1
    @sadlobster1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

For me; live action media works best with TV/Film Dramas, Comedies (sometimes,) horror-themed shows and game shows.
But to put live action material on children/family networks where the viewers prefer to watch cartoons...that's a dumb idea. I mean...look at Nick today, it's only success (and I use the term loosely) is Henry Danger and even there the comedy is garbage.
I understand that animation is expensive. But as the saying goes; sometimes, you need to spend money to MAKE money

It was weird noticing that transition when I was a kid. Cartoon City was always a cool thing to watch in between the blocks, Miguzi was weird but helped me appreciate European animation (namely Code Lyoko) and Toonami helped me get into anime later on in my life. Even around 2004-2006 when they changed up their block with that Summer Flower with the eye and later on the winter flower you could see the changes were starting to happen, but everything was still staying afloat. Having lived through the time of CN Real, I still had faith in Cartoon Network and later on they finally delivered. They brought in Adventure Time and Regular Show and it was kind of like a weird transition into adulthood as I was just making it into high school, but it was always there for me. While I wasn't always the biggest fan of Cartoon Network, it played a big part in my life as a kid and even now as I've grown up and made other friends in the cartoon community.

No joke, a couple years ago a random thought popped into my head about the live action shows Cartoon Network that aired from 2007-2013 and how they were so unpopular. I remember watching most of them as they aired and decided to try and find/rewatch some of them. To say that I was disappointed/they didn't hold up would be an understatement! Most of these shows I still found bad/hated more than I did as a kid, but I will admit I still enjoyed 2 of them; Tower Prep and 1 other live action show (I won't say which series since it is more of a guilty pleasure to me than genuinely good and I want to keep you guys guessing as to which other show I liked). I enjoyed Tower Prep when it was on and I did enjoy watching it again. I won't spoil too much in case you didn't watch it, but rewatching it I got a Gravity Falls like vibe in how there was a mystery plot of each episode as well as 1 building up over the whole show, but the season ended on a cliffhanger (which I personally hate when shows do this) and it got cancelled before finishing the story (imagine if Gravity Falls got cancelled after season 1 well to me that happened here). I also enjoyed the concept of the show, the 4 main characters were all interesting, the occasional fight/chase scenes were good, and I was sad when it cancelled, because I felt it had real potential for another season. To me, this was the ONLY live action show Cartoon Network did that would have been better if it had been a cartoon instead of live action. I think part of the problem (asides from toy sales issue since that is common with the channel) was that there was so much criticism for the live action era of Cartoon Network (which they deserved) that this actually good show got overlooked/hate it didn't deserve. And if it had been a cartoon that had come out during this era of bad/boring live action shows it might have gotten higher ratings than it did. If you want to know what the best thing that came out of Cartoon Network from it's live action days, to me Tower Prep was it, and while it wasn't a perfect show, I enjoyed it and recommend that if you can find it give it a watch yourself.

Just wait for some Gen X-er waiting to go on about how CN stopped being about old cartoon reruns and how it slowly became the Scooby-Doo network in the mid-90's before the original programming really took off.
Still, the real blame has to be the 2005 era of Disney's tween-coms. Sure, Nick always had live action shows along side the cartoons, but this was when they started to compete with their own animated programming by greenlighting unfunny, gimmicky schticky shows. Seems like CN didn't give too much care and effort into their new animated shows before that block happened. Sure, Camp Lazlo has its fans, but does anyone remember Squirrel Boy? And I swear that "My Gym Partner is a Monkey" was CN trying to sabotage its animated programming. Chowder was supposed to be the savior of the network, but they found a way to screw that up. Then they brought in Johnny Test because the show was cheap to acquire due to the production moving completely to Canada and getting that Canadian tax credit for production. Until Adventure Time, they really were lost as to how to compete as a kid's network when it never was supposed to BE a kid's network.
I mean, what kid would have wanted to watch old 1970's HB cartoon reruns at midnight back when it started?

I think one of the things that really killed the 90s to early 2000s era of Cartoon Network is the shutdown of their MMORPG, FusionFall. This game was everything a Cartoon Network fan could ask for, it was CN City on steroids, a fully explorable world with actual immersion and a story in which every early (and newer) era character plays a role in. I was fairly late to it but I still loved it to bits, so when it shut down I felt like a part of my childhood died. Luckily it's back thanks to the efforts of a team of individual game devs, and they're even adding to it with FusionFall Legacy. I have hope for the channel's future, but the execs need to listen to their audience to bring the channel back to its former glory.

I think you’re being too generous. Cartoon Network really started dying in late 04-early 05 once all the 90’s shows ceased production. While you had newer shows like Ed Edd N Eddy and Billy and Mandy to carry the Network, after the debut of Fosters came some truly awful shows (camp lazlo, squirrel boy, etc). The final nail in the coffin of course was Re-animated and out of Jimmy’s head

Plot twist, the Host of CN Real and DBD was behind all of this all along and this was his series finale. The finale of finales. After Steven Universe and Gumball end, he's gonna come out of the rubble and reveal himself.

Some examples of Cartoons that were cancelled for a variety of reasons during the CN Real Era included the likes of the following:
_Generator Rex:_ slowly pushed into an early morning timeslot to drive down support for the show.
_Sym-Bionic Titan:_ Written off as a loss in taxes because Cartoon Network demanded for a toy line tie-in for a show that was made by Gennedy Tartakovsky (You know: the legendary animator behind such works as _Primal_ and _Samurai Jack._ The mentor to both Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust: Two animation giants that were responsible for creating a large number of Cartoon Networks' earliest successes with the Cartoon Cartoons).
_Ben 10:_ Following the successful Season 2 of _Alien Force,_ Cartoon Network decided to try and revert the 15-year old Bens' Personality to be a mirror of that of his cocky 10-year old self: rendering all of the character development he had went through in the Original Series and first two Seasons of Alien Force completely pointless; and that its stigma would follow him throughout the rest of _Ultimate Alien_ (Actually Seasons 4-5 of Alien Force), and _Omniverse_ which like _Generator Rex_ before was quietly moved to an early Sunday schedule bloc to essentially die.
And lastly _Star Wars: The Clone Wars:_ this one wasn't on Cartoon Networks' fault, this was actually on Disney who after purchasing the rights to Star Wars from George Lucas decided to pull the plug on Dave Filonis' magnum opus: not wanting to bother moving the show to their own programming bloc or letting Dave complete it: not until nearly a decade later when after a near-endless string of terrible decisions made by a talentless, brain-dead Coffee Girl who had 0 writing talent or storytelling capability despite having worked directly underneath both Lucas *and* Spielberg (who personally I believe she just snuck into the credits office to graffiti her name into the roles of "Producer" and "Executive Producer" to quietly ride the coattails of success) which resulted in Star Wars actually LOSING Money in every conceivable way imaginable did Disney relent and allow for Dave to complete The Clone Wars at long last and bring it back again.
Compared to that damn Coffee Girl, the CN Real Era is rather tame. At least he was able to be removed from his position in Cartoon Network: the same however cannot be said for "Krazy Coffee Girl Kathleen Kennedy" due to how Disney is basically sheltering the Coffee Girl for what is becoming more and more like actual War Crimes done to both Star Wars and Disney as a whole because they are terrified of the proverbial backlash due to her being a woman in power, despite the fact that EVIDENCE supports the claims that she has absolutely zero raw talent and ability when it comes to being a leader of Lucasfilm; and their attempts at trying to deflect criticisms are causing more and more money and future customers to be lost in what we all know as SUNK COST FALLACY.

Live action never belonged on CN at all, even if the shows were good I still would've hated them, Cartoon Network is for CARTOON'S dammit, if Snyder didn't bring that shit on the network and didn't cancel Toonami for no fucking reason at all I would've liked him a lot more, I'm glad Miller stopped that bullshit immediately, one of the only things she's done right.

Also your angle on CN Real is just refreshing, Ill never forget how down and tired it made me to see like zero cartoons in my tv guide but it did change the landscape and personally I think it made cartoonnetwork open to ANY RISK.. like any change to pick them back up, Adventure Time n Regular Show were hardball risks I dont think we wouldve gotten if CN Real didnt put them in a corner 😭🤙🏾

So do you remember when Steven was look threw pictures he saw white diamond and blue diamond and yellow diamond standing together in a picture and a purple rock in the background. In change your mind the last scene show Steven,Perl,Garnet and Amethyst siting together on the beach and in the background you can see a purple figure in the background. If you go back where Steven was looking then the pictures after the picture with the purple rock the next picture has pink diamond in it. So maybe pink diamond was made out of that rock. Also that could mean in the last scene of change you mind it might be hinting of a new diamond !!

I think the reasons for why I draw and want to become an animator is because of Cartoon Network it used to be (in my opinion) one of the greatest channels ever as a kid. I was basically married to that channel. After the live-action shows started showing up that's around the time I eventually stopped watching it, I had stopped drawing as well but I think it also made me realize that I had a long way to go to get to my dream so I gave up on it for awhile. I got into my little pony and got back into drawing and I also got into Steven Universe Lauren Faust and Rebecca Sugar were what got me to want to become an animator again.😊
