    Nice technique. Not many TH-cam vids have the proper technique for sabiki. They vids I've seen usually use a cast and slow retrieve method. Many don't realize that more action you give the sabiki, the more appealing it is to the fish. Works great for mackerel and many others that feed in schools too.

      Thanks Farm Grace. it also needs to be the correct tide as well as location to have good action. Correct type of sabiki and technique means better results too. actually, with the correct style, sabiki is very effective for the full water column.. not just for bait fishing gathering..

      Ramos.. I used to catch baits with them... but i realised subsequently that they can get bigger stuffs than just bait fish.. this are japanese made Hayabusa sabikis.. they best i have used so far in the market..

    Hello from Spain,
    Very nice video.
    Is sabiki rig suitable for harbour fishing?
    What types of fish can you catch in sabiki's rig?
    Do you put anything on the hooks or just bare hooks?
    Thank you very much.

      Hello Jose , I am from Singapore. This location is under a bridge in fast flowing sea currents. I used a Japanese brand Sabiki *Hayabusa* which i feel is the best sabiki in the market. i think they used fish skin on their hooks. I used it straight out from the packaging as it is. i catch a whole assortment of fish with it but mostly pelagics.. occasionally letting it run near the bottom to target bottom fishes.. I also home made some sabiki jigs by tying 3-4 dropper knots( using 16lb fluorocarbon) and i used SHOUT assist Mame Jaco jigs (size: LL) as the sabiki hooks to target a slightly bigger specimens of trevallies which does proves to be quite effective. www.shout-net.com/english/product/img/ASSIST_HOOK/302MJ.jpg

    Go easy on the retrieve and use a bit of drag

    • @FishingSGsWild
      @FishingSGsWild  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      drag was fairly set up... the surroundings doesnt offer a lot of room as the vid did not show the overall condition of the fishing location. i am basically under the bridge and there is a gangway to my left where pipes run along..

      Fishing Sailing Oooh alright, I understand the rapid retrieve now baha , fair enough. Great catches by the way, I have a couple of sabiki rigs in my tackle box but don't really know where to use them. Was think of going off the wharf in a place called kiama, just in the harbour. Just to see if I can get a few bait fish.

    • @FishingSGsWild
      @FishingSGsWild  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its always good to go to places where bait fishes will hang out... look out for changes in tide so that you can have a good understanding where is the current ripping in/out of the jetty. places of more current actions is where u need to be position..once u have found a good current flow spot.. then find a time where the current is stable n not moving.. use a small sinker ONLY and nothing else.. sound out the bottom with the small sinker to understand the terrain as well as the depth.. that will give u a very feel of the bottom and how to play it and where some of the coral/rocks/structure could be and the depth as well..this will increase your chances if you decide to sabiki which ever column of the water for the intended targetting area.

    I think you need more big hook to catch baby queenfish

    • @FishingSGsWild
      @FishingSGsWild  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      queenies are suckers for lures that are shiny n fast moving.. esp the small schooling sizes.. so hook sizes doesnt really matter as they usually leaps n speed around near the water surface,, but point to note.. try not to use stock hooks that comes with the lures.. always try to upgrade to some other better hooks of higher quality

    Nice catch mate i tried many time with sabiki but always stuck on stone can you give me some tips

    • @FishingSGsWild
      @FishingSGsWild  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      if you are targeting Pelagics.. dont let your sinker go all the way down... pelagics usually hang around the upper water column and so let your sinker go down for 3-4seconds and start by jigging once you have close your bail arm.. let the sabikis flutter up n down.. reel in once the angle of line is off or away from the strike zone. good luck

    • @FishingSGsWild
      @FishingSGsWild  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey mate... sorry for the late reply.. well.. 2 things to take note.. current n terrain. slow current means easier to control and fight a fish.. with fast current.. its slightly more difficult to gauge how fast and deep your sinker has went especially if you are casting from the shore.say if you are casting from a high ground like say a jetty.. try not cast out too far and let it sink all the way before retrieving back.. always try n control the sinker . Keep practicing and bouncing the sinker over the rocks with smaller sinkers.. smaller means easier to control n less expensive.. once u get a good feel of the terrain near you... then slowly upgrade the size of the sinker to allow u to cast further to deeper waters.

    • @FishingSGsWild
      @FishingSGsWild  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also... look out for changes in tide so that you can have a good understanding where is the current ripping in/out of the jetty. places of more current actions is where u need to be position..once u have found a good current flow spot.. then find a time where the current is not stable n not moving.. use a small sinker ONLY and nothing else.. sound out the bottom with the small sinker to understand the terrain as well as the depth.. that will give u a very feel of the bottom and how to play it and where some of the coral/rocks/structure could be and the depth as well..this will increase your chances if you decide to sabiki which ever column of the water for the intended targetting area.
