I-Team: Despite malpractice lawsuits, Gainesville hospital stands behind star surgeon

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - A growing list of patients claim a Gainesville doctor only exacerbated their pain.
Green is one of the few north Georgia surgeons in his field who specialize in robotic or laparoscopic surgery, the practice of using a computer to guide a camera and surgical instruments through small incisions near the naval.
The hospital said Green "frequently operates on advanced cancer patients who are at increased risk for complications."
Despite two pending medical malpractice lawsuits, two others settled, and a fifth lawsuit lost in court, Northeast Georgia Medical Center is still standing behind Dr. Andrew Green.
Last year, a Hall County jury ruled Green committed medical malpractice in a case where his patient later died. He and the Northeast Georgia Medical Center were ordered to pay a total of $3 million.
On Thursday, the Georgia Court of Appeals threw out the jury's decision, agreeing with the defense that the patient's estranged husband - rather than her mother and children - should have filed the lawsuit.
But two more lawsuits are currently working their way through the court system. Meanwhile, two others have already been settled and resulted in payments to patients totaling more than $2 million. In those cases Green again denied any wrongdoing.

Oh my gosh! The lady who had her urinary tract cut. Oh my! God bless her!!! I hope she wins every dime she asks for!! Yes, money won't change her trauma. But money brings comfort! And she deserves that!

Yeah my husbands dr cut his bile duct in half doing a gall bladder surgery which later caused a massive liver abscess which nearly killed him. No one held accountable

As someone who lives in Gainesville, i can assure you i will do all that I can to NOT get a medical procedure done in this town. this place is the literal armpit of Georgia and i wish i could afford to move somewhere else.

Dr Green looked arrogant during his deposition, as if he didn't care about what happened
He has a god complex he won’t admit to any wrong mistakes happen it’s how we handle them that make us who we are and he didn’t even attempt to save my mother! She even was brought back to the emergency room 7 hrs after surgery with extreme pain and he let her go back home without proper test being done…
Before you allow any doctor do any surgery get a 2nd opinion. Research any and everything on the doctor. Checking with the board of medical professionals

I didn't see the same energy when thar Nurse got convicted recently for 1 medical error that she never tried to hide. I guess doctors are immune from being held accountable 🤔
I have worked with Dr Green and he is actually very nice. I would allow him to operate on me. But you are right!
Go to the medical board who.license the doc. Notify his insurance carrier. And get in touch with hospital license board. There is more a good attorney will make theirself available no charge and go after all involved.
Are these patients on medicare medicaide? Has the doc been restricted from practise pending review. You also need to.notify your insurance and it sounds he is gone? You can still sue.
Yes my mother and a lot of these women were on Medicaid
How does the hospital explain what happened to these women?

Dr. Green removed one of my ovaries that had multiple cysts - it was so large that it caused very painful ovarian torsion. My surgery went smooth as glass and I hit all the recovery milestones quicker than normal. It was honestly the best surgical experience I ever had. I'm TOTALLY SHOCKED to hear this news!!!
I wished I could have sued the doctor That Delivered my baby. He burned my tubes Without me saying it was OK or signing anything. What if I would have Want it To have another child. but I could never have another child. After delivering my child he He leaned over and whispered that he had gone ahead and burned my tubes but not to say anything Because where I had my child was at Saint Mary's hospital in Tucson Arizona And it's owned by nuns and you're not allowed to do that unless it was a life-or-death situation.

Grady Dr cut my urethra caused kidney damage nothing was said but oh well there are risk to any surgery.i think it's disgusting!
There are plenty of risk just being at Grady .Trauma is great to save your life but,when you get on a regular floor you are on your own.
I want to know what hospital that is so I can make sure to avoid it.

It’s my mother that passed away stay away from dr.green he has a very big god complex I miss you so much momma! The things that are swept under the rug in this world is crazy… we will get justice for my momma Susie and all of these beautiful women! Do research on your doctor plz! Stay safe! My mother suffered more than anyone should have! Money doesn’t mean anything a sorry and take responsibility! We will be taking the case back to trail bc my “father” left me and my mother when I was 8 and she never divorced him so they said he should have been the one to file but we will get the same outcome this time bc the truth is the truth and why would the autopsy showed a perforation caused by surgery why would she lie about that what does she have to gain be safe in this world!
RN here. Unfortunately, hospitals will keep shoddy doctors/surgeons around because they’re still the money makers and not easily replaced. The entire healthcare system has been going downhill for a while.

Suzie Mitchell should have gone to the E.R. when the pain didn't go away. I had my colon punctured in a similar procedure, and spent 10 days in the ICU, but I didn't die.
She did it was my mother she went back 7 hrs after surgery by ambulance and he didn’t even do any test to make sure she was okay to be sent home and he sent her home for the 2nd time with internal bleeding
And liquid bowel leaked into her body if he would have caught his mistakes she would be sittin beside me today

Imo 'Robotic' surgery needs to be heavily scrutinized (fyi the Dr noted robotic surgery) = follow the $ perhaps? 🤔💜🙏

The ONLY way this will change is to boycott the hospital, boycott the doctor and even piceket out side to warn others of the danger. It's more money for the hospital when things go wrong. The injuries are horrific

I half expected a bunch of support for the doc but I was wrong thanks so much for all the positive comments my mother was Susie who he killed in 2016 been fighting it ever since my grandmother would call daily after the let my mother go home for the 2nd time without proper test to make sure she was able she fail in septic lvls 3 times while back in the emergency room after surgery and he still sent her home (we didn’t find this out till we got the medical records back)
I truly hope your case was resolved with that “doctor” facing severe financial penalties. I cringed this entire segment due to the horrific malpractice performed on them. Then to read your comment. So sorry for your loss especially due to neglect. Many condolences 💐

this guy should have his license pulled it's not his first mistake it's countless mistakes that he did not fix when he should of his negligence led to a patients death and suffering for others this guy shouldn't be a doctor shame on the hospital for siding with him

There was a Dr in Stuart Florida, he in known to mess up surgeries and many die. Yet he is still in practice. Through the large hospital there, st lucie also. Pretty evil.
