Thank you for this informed presentation and advice for us older rowers. I always wonder if the shortened race distance for master's rowers makes sense: would our bodies be better adapted to longer distances, such as 5k, rather than an a 1k sprint.
Yeah I suppose relative to younger rowers, you would be able to compete with the more closely. Most of the masters we coach prefer head racing season anyways.
Interesting to hear! I might do a poll on instagram to see what masters prefer. It seems to be different country to country. I know the US - masters often prefer 5k over 1k and 2k. I think in the UK, Masters are slightly more inclined to the 2k distance.

46, still racing 2ks on and off the water. Hate masters 1k races.
