If I'm your college Prof I'll spank you on the butt. U just say she ain't smooth coz you failed ur quiz. Now this video won't give u a quiz thats why u said what u said.
Thank you, Mr. O'Loughlin. It is inconceivable to me how my statistics Professor could make something so simple so unnecessarily complicated. Thanks for a quick and easy explanation.
I am living in Ireland and my Data Analysis lecturer really made me cry... But These Videos are amazing I'm curious how your live lectures look like :) With such lecturer is a pleasure to do maths!
I'm having to do this for psychology and when our teacher explained the steps it did not end up like this 😂 thanks for setting the record straight and actually helping me understand it
I see you three video Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-wallis H test & now Rank correlation test All are Fabulous video & Nice Explained Love your teaching from India.
Thank you so much Dr.Eugene so nice and clear way to explain, the most important mentioned the exact meaning and application of the analysis in the real world
Thank you very much for sharing. I'm coming from a computer science background and I needed to understand the usage of the formula in real word and this video is what I was looking for. If you are interested in a real-life use case of the formula you may it's usage is NLP when you want to find the correlation between datasets and words.
An excellent and poignant example. Well done! Price fluctuations don't conform to a normal distribution, as many things. When multiple modes (repetitious data, fractional ranks) occur in significance, this would seem to revert the Spearman back toward the Pearson. The coefficient of 6 in front of sigma almost seems magic for integer ranks.
When Ranking the data figures, make sure that the ranks are in ASCENDING ORDER. The rank of 1 being assigned to the smallest figure while the rank of 10 being assigned to the highest figure. Make sure to do so.
Thank you for this video I had my doubts at first but it proves very useful. Only problem is in the exam board I use the formula's bottom part is actually n²(n-1)
Sir good afternoon from my country with kind greetings, First I felt rank calculation was hard after you reached us how to calculate the values(rank) I gotta clear way for calculations. Thank you sir for your teachings.
Hi Aribariho, First - many thanks for watching my video! Many statisticians say that this test should not be used if some values are the same, as this compromises the test. If you have a lot of similar values, for example - if a lot of the prices are the same, then you should not use this test. Use the Pearson Correlation test instead. However, the test can be used if there are a small number of similar values. In my example, let's say that there are two bottles of water at €1.80. These would be the second and third ranks. Simply add 2 + 3 to get 5 and divide by 2. In other words, you get that average for the ranks. 5/2 = 2.5, therefore both would be ranked at 2.5. Hope this helps, Dr E.
2 questions: (1) Why was the order shortest distance to longest distance and highest to lowest price (10 going to 1)? Presumably because we could see on visual inspection that price decreased with distance. What if this hadn't been obvious? (2) Could we maintain the rank order but go the other way around? (In point one above swap 10 and 1). Presumably this wouldn't impact d squared.
The table below lists the scores of nine students in Chemistry and Physics test a. Find the correlation coefficient of the variables x and y b. Compare your answer in a using the Spearman’s rho. What conclusion can you draw from the two values?
Hi Leda, The Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient calculation is affected if there are tied ranks. Many statisticians are OK if there are just a small amount of tied ranks in large sample, but it is recommended that you use the Pearson coeeficient if you have tied ranks. Dr E.

Thank you Mr.O'loughlin. I couldn't had it when our lecturer was teaching. With the aid of this video, I comprehend how to calculate it.
Glad it was helpful!
My college professor decided not to attend class and just gave us a seatwork without explaining so this is REALLY helpful. Thank you 😄
Very calmly bringing all important steps of solving out clearly and correctly ! Thank you so much for your digital human service !
found this last minute, honestly saved my life. thank you
I was panicking that I couldn't do it but you explained it very clearly. Thank you so much for sharing this
I understood so much more from this than the module that our college prof doesn't even discuss. Thank you!
