hi some nice projects you have started there ive done abit of (basic) plastic kit building with rolling stock but ive just got a whitemetal 009 loco body kit to build so am going into the realm of soldering which am abit nervous of as my soldering skills are pretty basic and most videos or articles ive seen about white metal kits say glue isnt good enough, what sort of soldering iron and solder is best to use as ive just got a pretty basic one at the moment for soldering wires onto the track, kind regards tom

Hi There Tom, good two part epoxy glue will do the job, super glue is a bit brittle and not long term. I bit the bullet and brought a temp controlled soldering iron(it is a nice digital one, they have them in Maplins for about £40 i think)if you can afford the outlay it pays divedends in the long run and you can still use it for everything else and a LOW melt solder(I got mine from Gaugemaster) and a good quality flux(again from gaugemaster), get a cheap small kit, maybe a loading gauge first to have a practise on, i set my iron to 170 degrees and flux the piece and let the solder do the workIts not as hard as people make out, its just the TEMP you have to get right!!!!!!. I will try and do a vid on soldering a small piece first so you can have a look, Good Luck!!

Tom, THis is the one I got> www.maplin.co.uk/p/48w-mains-solder-station-n34fbits quite an expensive outlay but it does pay in the end, it will do conventional electrics, brass and white metal
