A helpful video. I'm currently tweaking the drop bars & brake lever positions on my road bike. I certainly need to get a more upright position following last years bowel surgery. Certainly a few ideas to try! Can't afford a bike fit at the moment! But at least with the bike currently on the turbo trainer for Zwift, I've remove the bar tape and loosened the cables from the bars, making for easy adjustments :-)
I really enjoy the explanation here and has the rough idea where to fix my fitting. I wish this video explain shifters angle either turned inward or aligned with the bar

@@dougieshawbikefitter Not really sure. I guess I am wondering if there is difference in fits for the two styles. Is it common to have the same fit on a bike that one uses for both road and gravel riding, or do the mix it up? Thanks.
@@dancing8595 there are so many variables/ shoes cleats and pedal interface for a start being the big obvious one and then the saddle position which will be influenced by that. Normally gravel riding is going to be earmarked by bigger variances in gradient so how a rider wants the bar position for control reasons will then change the saddle position as well / as well as that how a rider may want the saddle positioned to apply torque to the pedal across a range of gradients are all factors which lean heavily into final set up. As a bike fitter I’m looking for what position gives a cyclist the most amount of control across the entire bike by giving a supportive position.
Maybe a bit more of a can of worms answer than you expected but if you can get specific with your questions here I’ll try and help you.
To be specific to the video and also giving the context above you still want the hoods to create a neutral position in the wrist and not be dropped forward so much that the shoulders then get pulled. Some insist that gravel bars should be wider but I personally (maybe that’s my opinion) don’t think that a person gains control here other than subconsciously or even consciously believing that wider bar positions are more stable.
In all 3 cases road cross and gravel you would also want to position the drop flat so that you can easily reach the shifters and brakes while on the drops and go as far as to dial the brake levers in as much as possible without sacrificing the bite point.

It should start with her shoulder width and how it is matching the handlebar width. On the video it looks like that the handle is quite wider than her shoulders , but it can be visual effect as the handle is closer than the shoulders..

I’ve had pain between in my neck and in my back towards my shoulder for years, no matter how much I fiddle around with my setup. Strangely it’s only on one side. I unintentionally hunch my shoulders when riding as well. Maybe I’m slightly lopsided 🤔

I didn't even know you could move the hoods, sweet.
You can also move the levers closer to the bar if you need to. There's a screw inside the STI that adjusts how far the lever is from the bar. Helps with smaller hands.
