I realize Andy Wong has danced and competed for many years, but this is a bad video for these reasons.
    1. The captions, horrible, should not have used them, they block the view of the feet movement which is an important part of the basic move instruction. Really, Andy spoke clear English and the captions are in English, so what was the purpose?
    2. Give the official name the movement or step sequence. Such as he showed the "Basic In Place", he should have announced this movement as others who want to learn to compete need to pinpoint a video to help them learn outside of one to one instruction. .

Thank you for your insightful comments. 1. The banner at the beginning of the video (which only lasted 5 sec) is to indicate to the viewer the name of the step and serves as a chapter heading for this part of the video. Note that this is only a 5 min clip of a 36 min that includes 6 different groups or chapter headings. 2. This video is for a beginner student. It was never intended for competitive training. For every competitor, there are hundreds who are not competitors but are simply recreational dancer and who wish to have a video as an additional reference to what they learnt in class. Thanks for watching. Andy Wong

I, for one, would really like to see this method in action. Do you have at videos of you dancing this way? Or, references to anyone teaching this method? Thanks so much...

You are absolutely right to note that the Cha 'chasse' should be to the side and not on the spot. But the reason I teach it 'on the spot' is so that beginners have an easier time learning it. They will find it easy to upgrade to the side chasse soon afterwards. This is called the 'layering' method of teaching.

Hi Mr. Wong: Thanks for your clarification. Do you have any advice on how to start off the dance and keep proper time to the beats. We are just thinking of starting International Cha Cha and are considering your training material but find it next to impossible to start together as a couple and then keep to the beat. I noticed that you seem to listen to music, then start with the three cha cha cha steps before you do the 2/3 rock forward steps. How does the dance partner know when you're going to do these fast three cha cha cha's so she times it exactly? Thank you...you can email me if preferred.

There are at least 4 different ways that you can start to dance a Cha Cha, but all of them must follow the musical count of 1234& 1234&. The '4&1' is the 'Cha Cha Cha'. If you wish to start with the 'Cha Cha Cha', then be sure both you and your partner are standing on the opposite foot and the other foot is flexed and ready to take the first step. This means man stand on LF and lady on RF. If you are learning as a beginner, it is ok to say the timing of the music out aloud, "123", and then step 'cha cha cha' on the following '4&1'. Man will then step fwd LF and the lady back RF and continue. This is where a teacher would help you by counting the music out loud so you can follow it. If you don't have a teacher, using my video as your guide would be the next best thing.
