We do not have a pond for our ducks so changing out water in the sleds for them is a quite a chore in the winter. However, having the ducks living in the orchard to eat the bugs and slug provides us with amazing fruit. The ducks are five years old and still lay very well. Baby ducklings are more difficult than chicks, but the cuddles and cuteness are over the top!
Nice video, guys! Great breakdown and info. BTW just an idea, you might want to do a video on Brian's farm once he gets his duck area setup. That would be a nice follow up video.
@@HobbyFarmGuys I"ve been watching you guys for a while now and I think your channel would start to grow faster if you would/could include yourselves working or teaching from your farms. I'm not saying get rid of the standard format, but your regular viewers, I think, would appreciate seeing you guys out on the hobby farm once and a while. I know I would :) All my best!
Great show. I am planning a little homestead I will share my thoughts and plan: Chickens Yes!, Ducks I would set up a tub/bathtub with a drain with a shut off, the hose would water my fruit orchard. Around the tub or any water source I would put river rock so when they get out of the water and shake it does not cause a mud issue, for the smaller water I would put a cover with 2x4" welded wire so the head goes in but they cannot splash water all over. Bug control in garden I am doing Permaculture ideas but for the slugs the Ducks will be on duty at dusk, I have so many plans thanks for letting me share them. Oh I am considering a goose for hawk protection.🙄
This was awesome! Thanks, guys! I have chickens but clean the coop daily and like things neat. My chickens are super friendly and cuddly. I have thought about ducks but I already know the mess would be too much for me! Thanks so much for this creative and informative comparison
My chickens and ducks live well together… I have a kiddie pool for my ducks.. so it doesn’t affect my chickens water source.. also my chickens and ducks get locked up at night but can roam my entire yard all day.
I want Ancona ducks. I hope they are not as noisy as the Lakenvelder chickens. Either way, I won't have close neighbours, so the noise should be all right if I can bare it.
I think ducklings are cuter than chicks. But I don’t have ducks. Mostly because I do not have a water source on my property. If I had a big pond or a stream or something then maybe I would consider it but I don’t. And I don’t want to deal with water in the middle of winter. So chickens for me.
Lol!😂 We have both togeder and they are perfectly fine, plus geese. The chickens are perfect to clean the ramaining food and so we prevent mice coming over. I think the complement each other, also when it comes to forage insects. You miss out one thing though. Roosters are more agressive than drakes! Fore free range is beneficial but otherwhise....
You left out the category for meat! AS for eggs its ducks, maintenance is chickens, health goes to ducks. I'm team both! I kept my chickens in their own buildings and the ducks, geese and turkeys all shared an empty garage and got along great. SO YOU CAN'T LOOSE WITH BOTH!🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
I’ve had ducks the most recent where eaten by foxes while I was out. But the darn ducks are way louder than a cock crowing. The only quiet ducks are Muscovy even then the girls are loud to 😂
I have chickens I tried adding ducks. They trashed my water something horrible even though there was a small outside man-made pond I would like to keep ducks, but I haven’t figured out how to fix that issue.
My wife didn't want to have chickens because "they are sooo loud!" So we got ducks. Our flock is now around 60 birds 50:50 gender mix and let me tell you if the ladies want their cat-food treats it is deafening! Turned out wifie grew up on a farm with Muscovy Ducks… 🤣 th-cam.com/video/m8rNXrYzvUk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=itWN70XCqVneoUYu

Lets see the Duck set up so I can decide.
Very interesting, I have considered ducks seems my work load has held me back, just so much too do already ❤

Great suggestion! We have been filming different steps along the way. There was a big delay due life happening, but it is slowly coming together.

I've had ducks, and I'll stick to chickens. Maybe a few wood ducks for the pond, but that's it

I plan on both.
Thank you for the perspective! If i had more room, I'd have both. But, for now- I'll have to stick with only chickens..
😁👍
Oh my gosh, you guys are awesome!!! That was so dang fun to watch, I don't even care who won the debate.
Dudes keep on doing what you are doing !
Thanks so much!
Personally,I would rather stick with chickens.

I have chickens, muscovies and chinese geese living together. 😊

Khaki Campbell's too are quiet to a great degree
Best video ever hilarious. I got chickens and geese. Now I want ducks
Brian is glad to hear you are interested in ducks now! 😂
Enjoy the sound of a rooster!

Muscovy ducks don't quack there very quite. I keep ducks in my potato patch they eat all the potato bugs and dont bother the plants.
"a babbling brook?"
Muahahahahaha hahahahahahaha! Bwahahaha hahahahaha!
😂 Exactly!!
Team pheasant !!!
That’s a take for another video! 😂
