It's my second favourite. I think Broly's spectacle just can't be topped but the story in Super Hero is better imo. My third favourite movie is Wrath of the Dragon
May be an uncommon opinion judging from how highly rated Superhero is but I strongly disliked it, especially compared to how good 2018 Broly was, and consider it to be among the worst of the Dragonball movies, like straight up Bio-Broly tier. Animation of Superhero felt cheap and lazy, the antagonists were lame and relied entirely on Red Ribbon nostalgia from viewers to be relevant, and frankly this version of Cell was an insult to the character who was such an unstoppable menace during his DBZ reign of terror.
@@gavinrad1 The Gammas were great and the cartoony feel of Magenta and Carmine + Hedo worked well. Piccolo was amazing in this movie and so was Pan. Cell Max was never supposed to replicate the original Cell. My only problem was Gohan since they made him kind of a fool in the movie so I'm indifferent on him
@@gavinrad1of the 3 versions of Cell (Imperfect, Semi-Perfect, and Perfect), I personally love the Imperfect Cell the most. He comes off as a horror villain and an actual threat. His Semi is over confident and serves as a punching bag for Vegeta (and humiliated by Tien; which is awesome to me seeing Tien able to hold that being down). Perfect Cell comes off another powerful being ready to fight.
Gohan having a major role in this movie was great but Piccolo also being a main character and getting a power up was a dream come true when it first came out
Before this movie, I was ready to give up on the thought of Piccolo ever being relevant/prominent again. I’m so glad this movie gave me hope for him going forward.
Honestly the fact that Gohan was able to recreate the Special Beam Cannon on his own just from watching Piccolo do it and reverse engineering it is insane to me.
Its not too farfetched. I mean Goku learned the Kamehameha by watching Roshi, Trunks the Galick Gun and Final Flash by watching Vegeta. Sadly energy attacks really have lost their luster over the years.
@@digitaladventurer2142 How have they lost their luster? Just curious, since you mentioned Goku learning the Kamehameha just from watching Roshi do it once. Goku learned it pretty instantly after Roshi spent most of his life perfecting it, and Goku was only just a kid back then. And sure, Goku’s a naturally gifted fighter, but Gohan at least mentioned in the movie that he’d been practicing it quite a bit in his spare time in secret, so it’s still earned on his part. Trunks learning Galick Gun, though, I guess he did spend a whole year in the Time Chamber with Vegeta, so that still tracks. A lot of that time they spent was off-screen in the manga and only shown partially through filler in the anime.
@@komarunaegi7460 i dont disagree that gohan has earned the beam canon through practice, its cool but learning energy attacks just in general has become odd, since 90% of the character instantly learn other characters moves freeza and getes literally copied krillins destructo disc, yamcha and tien both do the kamehamaha (and piccolo that one time he was curious if he could). that said maybe the special beam canon is like a unique chi attack in the sense its hard to master like gokus instinct transmission or ui since literally only piccolo has ever used it (and cell i guess)
i think the special beam canon has to be powered up in order to be affective bc we always see piccolo needing time to charge the attack while we’ve vegeta and goku just launch a galick gun and kamehameha at any given moment

In Super, Gohan said he wanted to pursue his own path of power. Not following his dad’s path as a Saiyan but as his own warrior. Beast form is that attempt to differentiate his path from Vegeta and Goku. It’s also a nice callback as the original design of Super Saiyan had red eyes and white or silver hair, but Toriyama’s producer wanted him to change the colors to blue eyes and blond hair.
Specifically, Gohan is talking about Potential Unleashed. It's a power only he has, as the Elder Kai has never performed the ritual on anyone else. Beast is the next stage of that power.
@@cringekiller348 No it's not. Toriyama said it's related to his power from his awakenings as a kid. Which aren't related to him being part Saiyan. That power has always been something that was stated as being uniquely his. The entire point is Gohan can't achieve higher levels of Super Saiyan, because he lacks the saiyan love of combat that his dad and Vegita have. He's instead focusing on the power that's his own.
i like the idea that ui's hair is silver like an angel's but beast's is grey like a kai's since elder kai was the one who boosted gohan's power so much
Nobody noticed, but at the end when Pan gets her hug, she just casually broke the sound barrier just by running and hugged Gohan. Of course Gohan is powerful enough to recieve that hug. If she would hv hugged us like that, we would be incenerated in seconds😂😂
The fact that Gohan used special beam canon versus a kamehameha is just over whelming and incredible. The common misconception is that he looks up to Piccolo as his father but really, he looks up to him as his teacher, martial arts master, life long friend and much more.
This movie is my personal favorite out of the Super movies. It’s hilarious, cute, emotional, the animation was gorgeous, and just a fantastic movie overall.

People honestly slept on this movie. Like Gohan new transformation. Also piccolo outfit has some cool details like the tree oh his back. It’s the tree from namek and has all sorts of meanings so it’s fitting it’s on his back.
I’ve been a fan of DB since the Ocean Dub back in ‘94. The entire Frieza Saga from Toonami continued the series in ‘97 I think. That said, the part when Gohan uses the Special Beam Cannon was sort of internally emotional for me. Basically that is the same move that Piccolo used to kill off Goku (father) and Raditz (uncle). Never in a million years would I ever witness him using that move. I thought it was amazing.
I’m pretty much been a fan of DB since probably in the mid to late 90’s I would watch it when I got home from elementary school they would show both the OG DB and the DBZ Show on Cartoon Network
Yeah we got the re-runs in the 90's w/ Toonami, but it officially ended in '96 w/ GT and Toonami brought it to a wider audience in America around '97 or '98. They even got DBZ games on SNES so DBZ go way back for sure.
This movie was a roller coaster of action and emotion for me man. Seeing this in theaters with other avid db fans was electric. The energy in the room was awesome. This movie solidified more then anything the bond piccolo and gohan have. More than master and student they are friends. Gohan was piccolos first friend and vise versa. Them getting so much love in this movie was awesome and every call back and reference mad it that much more of an amazing experience.
I'll always say it, these last 2 Dragon Ball films can be enjoyed normally, but going to watch them in theatres was a completely different experience, just the music and sound effects hit so much different
Gamma 2s sacrifice was so intense in the theaters. The size of the explosion just doesn’t do it at home haha probably because of the power the audio has in theaters.
This movie was SO HYPE!! I was 14 when it came out, I finished Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Super at 13. I was super hyped for the movie, and watching it in theaters was SO MUCH MORE HYPE than watching it at home. Everyone in the theaters was yelling "BROLY!!" when Broly was first shown in this movie, and when Vegeta won against Goku in the sparring match at the end of the movie, everyone was yelling "VEGETA!!!!! FINALLY!!!!"
A fact about 16's mom and Gero's wife, Vomi : she was introduced in Dragon Ball FighterZ as a character for the story named Android 21 and was set to remain canon in that game only but she became so popular and loved that they made her canon in the actual story of Dragon Ball ( like it happened with Broly)
Something that the fanbase did mase me laugh. A bunch of people were happy that "Vegeta finally beat Goku." But Vegeta has never lost to Goku...ever. Made me laugh a lot.
The first time I saw this movie I thought Broly was inarguably better, but Super Hero has grown on me so much with each viewing that it may be my favorite Dragon Ball movie. I love that Gohan is finally a reliable character again.
In contrary, the first half is my favorite part. Here's context, I used to watch Og DB, DBZ and super alone and for myself. But I watched this with my daughter, and she was having a blast, and so do I after the movie end she said "Teach me to fly right now".

@@aziouss2863 It still didn’t happen in the sense that they had to rewrite parts of the movie to give Gohan some shine and show off his new form and main contributions to the final fight at the end. It was still a Piccolo movie and I love that, but Toriyama was told by execs to add more of Gohan in to attract more people. Still a good movie either way tho! I loved the shine that Piccolo did get.
Piccolos transformation signifies his roots and is lore based, the colour scheme of his form are the colours of the dragon balls themselves, orange skin with red eyes like the red stars in the Dragon balls. In the manga there's lore about the dragon balls meant to give power to brave and strong namekians in times of dire need, this matches exactly how piccolo got his power. Also some people initially didn't like that piccolo wished for power, but if anyone deserves a power up throough them its piccolo, since he and kami are one and kami was the one to create the dragon balls. Orange Piccolo is Piccolos story coming full circle. But I absolutely LOVE the orange piccolo's design, toriyama went hard on that one. Also fun fact: super hero was meant to be a piccolo solo movie since he's toriyamas favourite character, but right hand man insisted he put gohan in as well seeing his popularity, that's why the movie is piccolo focussed.
Piccolo going Orange is meant to rechannel his connection with the Dragon Balls through Kami and the symbol on his back has a Namekian tree in the center through Nail. All in one being giving Piccolo his truest form in a major power boost and badass demon look.
@40:00 mark, you two started taking about orange Piccolo. The mark on his back is a reference to a type of tree back on his home world that the Namekians grew to enrichen the beauty of planet Namek. Nice little call back to his roots (Tree Pun) One other thing that I and a fair few others noticed about his form is that his Orange Form was given to him by Shenron and the colour scheme matches that, Primarily Orange to match the Dragon Balls themselves and his red tint to match the stars... I quite like Chad Piccolo

This movie was a series of nostalgia. Honestly love the different route to power Gohan took. He became unique since Mystic Gohan dropped. And now this Beast Gohan transformation is here. Finally Piccolo gets a powerup. However, I would still like to see improvements for Krillin, Tien or Master Roshi. Or they could give some powerups to 18 and 17. Now that Trunks and Goten are older, it might mean they would be included too. And of course, we have Pan left.
This movie was amazing it showed Gohans potential to be the strongest and pan's remarkable growth as a Saiyan Gohans power up against cell and picolos power up were both well earned and deserved Plus seeing Goku and Vegeta showed the fans that even though other characters get strong the main characters are still Goku and Vegeta

I absolutely love this movie it has it's flaws for sure, but when I watch it everything about it just screams Akirra Toriyama. I love it I'm not a big fan of CGI but the animation for super hero just works for me, Looked wayyyyyyyyyy better than I thought... as a massive gohan fan I'm exited for the future. I hope toei see what studios like Ufoldable and Mappa are doing and bring back Super with amazing animation we can only hope 🙏
The on-screen comic-book text can actually be seen reversed and looking like they're projected in some scenes because they're not cartooney additions to the movie, but intentional design by Dr. Hedo on his own creations to live up to his comic-book-superhero love.

But from what I heard is that when Piccolo grows bigger his energy, strength, and stamina will stay the same as it was before when he is normal size so he just never uses it which also explains why Piccolo forgot he could grow in size. Plus he is slower when he grows bigger which doesn’t really come in handy unless you were fighting a giant enemy like a great ape
@@OmegaS-117 Yeah, Piccolo does explain all that in the movie too. He probably didn’t think the technique was useful after Goku beat him while he was using it, since his strength doesn’t change (just his size) and ended up forgetting about it. I was just confused since you used the word “recover” since that made me think he was injured or something. I think you meant he doesn’t “increase” his strength when he uses that technique.
I remember somewhere that the Namek dragon balls were originally used to reward Namekian warriors with great achievements, so I think that is where the transformation comes from.

This is definitely the best dragon ball movie we have ever gotten besides broly. It might even rank above broly for me. Orange Piccolo and Beast Gohan are 2 of the kost badass forms weve gotten so far in super.
I know I've only just started, but I have to comment right away. Just hurling a grenade into the prison is a perfect villain introduction. And the pay off joke at the end where Krillin is like "Uhh they don't want you back there" "Why can I see his sound effects?" It's a background gag later, but when 2 poses, his cape creates a holographic background, then glitches out. The visual sound effects are created by the cape. It's so dope.
Awesome review guys! Ive been waiting for this one! A side note, the manga is adapting the movie right now and theres several chapters devoted to Trunks and Goten at school searching for Hedo as the new Saiyamen 1 and 2. It also has a grown Mai , the manga version is incredible so far! Highly recommend
This movie was something else to watch on the big screen. As someone who watched this series from Dragon Ball, I really liked all the callbacks like you people mentioned. But the fact that this movie can build on from the place it left the story in Dragon Ball Super and the Broly movie based on the story bits of Dragon Ball Z and repurposing some of it.... simply classic! The classic Gohan snap to seeing Piccolo hurt and the sacrifice of an Android similiar to Android 16 back in Z, hands down the best trigger they could have shown after Gohan announcing that he will find his way to level up to Goku and Vegeta in his practice fight against Goku before the tournament of power. Also though most of the Dragon Ball Z movies were declared as non-canon, I liked how they brought back the Super Namekian form from the old movie, Lord Slug, and finally Piccolo can contribute to bigger fights and its not just Goku and Vegeta at the end of the day (No hate for both of them, its just like that the formula of Goku and Vegeta getting the victory was kinda getting monotonous but then again.... its Dragon Ball and I wouldnt be surprised if they get even massive level jumps from here! xD ). I also liked how other characters are also shown to have progressed as well, specially Trunks and Goten grown up and Pan finally grasping her powers through different difficult situations according to her age. On the Goku vs Vegeta side, I like how they are bridging the power levels by constant training on Beerus's planet to give both of them the new forms introduced in the Manga (Ultra Instinct for Goku and Ultra Ego for Vegeta) and would really like it if they didnt repeat the whole thing of this movie in form of episode like they did in the Dragon Ball Super sagas. Would have like to see a bit of Broly as well like just for a min of so if possible since he got introduced in just a movie back and made canon mainly because of Kale from Universe 6.

Honestly loved this movie and as much as i loved piccolo and gohans screen time, i loved the gammas more than anything and became such a huge fan of both of them. Especially gamma 2. I mean i have custom shoes, shirts keychains and figures of the gammas thats how much i loved them.

My two favorite parts of this movie are: - Vegeta beating out Goku, because it’s a callback to the conversation they had at the start of the film regarding Jiren’s efficient use of his power. Goku was training with Broly, and Vegeta was resting his body. Even if Vegeta’s win was because Goku was exhausted, it’s still a win and a good payoff to earlier in the movie. - This one is probably purely coincidental, but: Piccolo telling Gohan “It’s do or die time.” Because DBZ Abriged included a cover of “Day of Fate.” What was one of the lines? “Right now it’s donor die / my life is on the line and I will not flee.” And who voices Piccolo? Christopher Sabat - a known fan of DBZA and on good terms with Team Four Star!
Carlie hasn't seen Dragon Ball?!?! try to react to it! I love DBZ, but DB has some of my favorite moments of the entire history, and the more comedic/emotional story is good, martial arts take a center stage, and there are some characters that are so iconic there
I’d want them to react to the original Dragon Ball too (or at least watch it off-screen like they did with Z and GT) but… They definitely might need some warnings that the OG Dragon Ball is an 80s show in Japan. Meaning Toriyama was a LOT younger when he wrote it, he was always more of a comedy-adventure writer before he got into action when he started Z, and most importantly- Since it was so long ago, sensibilities were different back then. People didn’t care or mind that many things then. So the show is a lot raunchier and dirtier than Z or Super. 😂 Mostly for gags or dirty jokes, but again, since it was the 80s in Japan, they were able to be a lot… let’s say “bolder.” And I’d prefer to warn them since Oshi no Ko understandably left them feeling a little uncomfortable in some places. Dragon Ball doesn’t have any weird incest shenanigans but it does have a lot of “haha nudity is funny” gags, for both sexes, without any censors.
She kept on saying that parts of it didn't feel like Dragon Ball.. And that irritated me greatly, not gonna lie. It very much felt like og Dragon Ball, but even Z and Super had slice of life and expository segments.
I remember in Super, during the tournament of power, Gohan says he will keep training and that he will find a form that nobody has ever seen before. And in this movie, Gohan says he practiced the Special Beam Canon in secret. Implying that he kept training.
The orange on piccolo with his new form kinda represents the color of the dragon balls if u guys didn't notice. Also, i believe it takes place after the next two new arcs that are out in the Manga, and year before the end of z with uub if I'm correct
Honestly the reason why it doesn't remind you of dragon Ball Z is because they made it more like dragon Ball. That's the whole reason. They wanted to add a little bit of story and stuff like that like how the original dragon Ball was. Not just all fight fight fight like everything was after it
Gohan Beast was epic and he used Special BeamCannon due to Piccolo being his father figure while Goku was dead/off training sooooo many call backs from over the years!
The Orange Piccolo form looks that way and is named that way because it's origin is from the nemekians/Dragon Balls. So his color palette is exactly like the Dragon Ball's with light orange and dark orange spots 🔥
Early in the movie when Gohan was talking about the "Saiyants" he mentions that they transform when the nest is in danger. It basically means that a Saiyan will find a way to transform and overcome danger the same way. Saiyans are constantly evolving to survive. While yes, Goku and Vegeta have been training their butts off, the writers have laid the groundwork for Gohan's transformation to make sense without all of the training. That's realistically the only way they can write it so another Saiyan character can catch up to Goku and Vegeta. Eventually, something will happen to Goku and Vegeta and I doubt enemy characters will get weaker.
Giving Piccolo and Gohan the shine was awesome. Piccolo knowing full well that once Gohan snapped he would be way too powerful for Cell just like before was nice, telling him to wait and that he could do it while KNOWING he couldn't actually do it at that point and knowing he'd take a beating but that it WOULD lead to Gohan snapping was nicely done. He didn't want to have Gohan endure the beating like happened last time, instead took it on himself knowing it'd be faster if someone Gohan cared about was being hurt and used himself as the bait for Gohan to unleash his monster....pause...the red streak behind him was fucking epic, as it's associated with a massacre in terms of power advancement in Gohan. Pan had been wondering how weird it was that her daddy was once the strongest fighter on the planet, even stronger than Goku and Vegeta, and had never known him like that and saw a glimpse of what Gohan actually unleashing his power looks like. Gohan was always meant to be the strongest of the team anyway. I like that Goku, Vegeta, and now Gohan all have different forms than each other but are all the pinnacle of their current powers. Piccolo finally was able to be relevant in physical battles once again. Overall its a good movie. I'll be interested to see what they do with Gohan Beast in terms of the story in Super now though. Goku and Vegeta are the benchmarks for power in this series and since they didn't get a chance to fight against Cell Max we don't actually know that they couldn't have beat him by themselves as well, my guess is either of them could have. Though not to say Gohan hasn't surpassed their current states of power, he probably has. Gohan always exceeds them when he powers up. Similar to how Vegeta is actually more powerful than Goku when Vegeta unlocks the newer form Goku had already achieved. Goku as a Super Saiyan wasn't really even close to being as powerful as Vegeta was when he unlocked it. Then they both gained ss2 like Gohan had, Vegeta in ss2 was far stronger than Goku in ss2 as witnessed by his ss2 actually being more powerful than Gokus ss3. And ss3 gives you at least a 50x power increase just by switching into it so Vegetas ss2 is AT LEAST 50x more potent than Goku's, both Roshi and Beerus mentioned that despite being in a lesser transformation that he was even stronger than Goku in the stronger one. Vegeta didn't even need the ritual to gain God form, and so on. Gohan is much like that but on ROIDS. He has always had a seemingly infinite well of power he can bring out when the situation requires it....providing he isn't defeated before he can do so. As a toddler he flattened Raditz who was making rag dolls out of Goku and Piccolo combined. A little older but still a small child and he was doing battle with Freeza. Such insanity. Then he goes and transforms into ss2 against Cell and decimates him with absolute ease despite Cell clearly being stronger than Goku AND Vegeta and everyone at their Max, and Gohan just swats him around like he's nothing. Even when they did their beam struggle at the end, Gohan had more than enough power to obliterate Cell but he was in his head about Goku dying and couldn't fully being it to bear through the guilt he felt. Goku spoke to him with King Kais help and had him just let loose with it, just as Vegeta distracted Cell for a second. Cell gets obliterated. Then Gohan decides to stop training, likely a combined effect of his own dislike of fighting and ChiChi being a dragon of a mother. Buu comes around, mops the floor with everyone, INCLUDING Gohan, Gohan does some training and a ritual to unleash some of his power, embarrasses a powered up Buu to the point that absorbing him was the only way he wasn't going to die at Gohans hand. Then Super comes, Gohan is still on his nerd shit, and much weaker than he used to be. But after a very short time training he's able to go toe to toe with Goku in Blue. The dude is nuts. Really. He's fucking broken. His ability to increase his power rapidly is insanely higher than Goku and Vegetas. I think Broly has an overall advantage in terms if increasing his power more consistently quick, but in terms if sheer "FUCK YOU. I'M HIM!" Gohan has seemed unmatched.

Overall, I love Dead Zone (Ocean Dub), Fusion Reborn, DBS Broly, and Super Hero.

I was also excited about having Piccolo be the lead... I didn't expect it, but I was so happy. Also, I loved seeing Pan grow in her training too
Honestly the fact that Gohan was able to recreate the Special Beam Cannon on his own just from watching Piccolo do it and reverse engineering it is insane to me.
Its not too farfetched. I mean Goku learned the Kamehameha by watching Roshi, Trunks the Galick Gun and Final Flash by watching Vegeta. Sadly energy attacks really have lost their luster over the years.
@@digitaladventurer2142 How have they lost their luster? Just curious, since you mentioned Goku learning the Kamehameha just from watching Roshi do it once. Goku learned it pretty instantly after Roshi spent most of his life perfecting it, and Goku was only just a kid back then.
And sure, Goku’s a naturally gifted fighter, but Gohan at least mentioned in the movie that he’d been practicing it quite a bit in his spare time in secret, so it’s still earned on his part.
Trunks learning Galick Gun, though, I guess he did spend a whole year in the Time Chamber with Vegeta, so that still tracks. A lot of that time they spent was off-screen in the manga and only shown partially through filler in the anime.
I like to think it’s like both of his dads in that beam 😂 the move itself from piccolo but the color from the kamehameha
@@komarunaegi7460 i dont disagree that gohan has earned the beam canon through practice, its cool but learning energy attacks just in general has become odd, since 90% of the character instantly learn other characters moves
freeza and getes literally copied krillins destructo disc, yamcha and tien both do the kamehamaha (and piccolo that one time he was curious if he could).
that said maybe the special beam canon is like a unique chi attack in the sense its hard to master like gokus instinct transmission or ui since literally only piccolo has ever used it (and cell i guess)
i think the special beam canon has to be powered up in order to be affective bc we always see piccolo needing time to charge the attack while we’ve vegeta and goku just launch a galick gun and kamehameha at any given moment

In Super, Gohan said he wanted to pursue his own path of power. Not following his dad’s path as a Saiyan but as his own warrior. Beast form is that attempt to differentiate his path from Vegeta and Goku. It’s also a nice callback as the original design of Super Saiyan had red eyes and white or silver hair, but Toriyama’s producer wanted him to change the colors to blue eyes and blond hair.
Specifically, Gohan is talking about Potential Unleashed. It's a power only he has, as the Elder Kai has never performed the ritual on anyone else. Beast is the next stage of that power.

The entire point is Gohan can't achieve higher levels of Super Saiyan, because he lacks the saiyan love of combat that his dad and Vegita have. He's instead focusing on the power that's his own.

Nobody noticed, but at the end when Pan gets her hug, she just casually broke the sound barrier just by running and hugged Gohan. Of course Gohan is powerful enough to recieve that hug. If she would hv hugged us like that, we would be incenerated in seconds😂😂
The fact that Gohan used special beam canon versus a kamehameha is just over whelming and incredible. The common misconception is that he looks up to Piccolo as his father but really, he looks up to him as his teacher, martial arts master, life long friend and much more.
This is a true and it's all a meme, but c'mon...it's just like Yondu told Quill in Guardians 2: Goku may be his father, but Piccolo is his dad.

I’ve been a fan of DB since the Ocean Dub back in ‘94. The entire Frieza Saga from Toonami continued the series in ‘97 I think.
That said, the part when Gohan uses the Special Beam Cannon was sort of internally emotional for me.
Basically that is the same move that Piccolo used to kill off Goku (father) and Raditz (uncle). Never in a million years would I ever witness him using that move. I thought it was amazing.
I’m pretty much been a fan of DB since probably in the mid to late 90’s I would watch it when I got home from elementary school they would show both the OG DB and the DBZ Show on Cartoon Network
Yeah we got the re-runs in the 90's w/ Toonami, but it officially ended in '96 w/ GT and Toonami brought it to a wider audience in America around '97 or '98. They even got DBZ games on SNES so DBZ go way back for sure.

This movie was a roller coaster of action and emotion for me man. Seeing this in theaters with other avid db fans was electric. The energy in the room was awesome. This movie solidified more then anything the bond piccolo and gohan have. More than master and student they are friends. Gohan was piccolos first friend and vise versa. Them getting so much love in this movie was awesome and every call back and reference mad it that much more of an amazing experience.
I (and the entire theatre) lost it when Piccolo went Orange, that moment is one of the dopest in all of dragon ball.
I'll always say it, these last 2 Dragon Ball films can be enjoyed normally, but going to watch them in theatres was a completely different experience, just the music and sound effects hit so much different
Gamma 2s sacrifice was so intense in the theaters. The size of the explosion just doesn’t do it at home haha probably because of the power the audio has in theaters.

I was 14 when it came out, I finished Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Super at 13.
I was super hyped for the movie, and watching it in theaters was SO MUCH MORE HYPE than watching it at home.
Everyone in the theaters was yelling "BROLY!!" when Broly was first shown in this movie, and when Vegeta won against Goku in the sparring match at the end of the movie, everyone was yelling "VEGETA!!!!! FINALLY!!!!"
A fact about 16's mom and Gero's wife, Vomi : she was introduced in Dragon Ball FighterZ as a character for the story named Android 21 and was set to remain canon in that game only but she became so popular and loved that they made her canon in the actual story of Dragon Ball ( like it happened with Broly)

The first time I saw this movie I thought Broly was inarguably better, but Super Hero has grown on me so much with each viewing that it may be my favorite Dragon Ball movie. I love that Gohan is finally a reliable character again.
Highly recommend a watch-through of OG Dragonball. It's hilarious, and really helps put moments throughout the rest of the series in perspective.
In contrary, the first half is my favorite part. Here's context, I used to watch Og DB, DBZ and super alone and for myself. But I watched this with my daughter, and she was having a blast, and so do I after the movie end she said "Teach me to fly right now".

It was still a Piccolo movie and I love that, but Toriyama was told by execs to add more of Gohan in to attract more people.

Piccolos transformation signifies his roots and is lore based, the colour scheme of his form are the colours of the dragon balls themselves, orange skin with red eyes like the red stars in the Dragon balls. In the manga there's lore about the dragon balls meant to give power to brave and strong namekians in times of dire need, this matches exactly how piccolo got his power. Also some people initially didn't like that piccolo wished for power, but if anyone deserves a power up throough them its piccolo, since he and kami are one and kami was the one to create the dragon balls. Orange Piccolo is Piccolos story coming full circle. But I absolutely LOVE the orange piccolo's design, toriyama went hard on that one.
Also fun fact: super hero was meant to be a piccolo solo movie since he's toriyamas favourite character, but right hand man insisted he put gohan in as well seeing his popularity, that's why the movie is piccolo focussed.
Piccolo going Orange is meant to rechannel his connection with the Dragon Balls through Kami and the symbol on his back has a Namekian tree in the center through Nail. All in one being giving Piccolo his truest form in a major power boost and badass demon look.
In the manga Orange Piccolo also has God Ki.
If they ever do another movie I would love to see Goku and Vegeta reaction to seeing Piccolo and Gohans new transformations

One other thing that I and a fair few others noticed about his form is that his Orange Form was given to him by Shenron and the colour scheme matches that, Primarily Orange to match the Dragon Balls themselves and his red tint to match the stars...

This movie was a series of nostalgia. Honestly love the different route to power Gohan took. He became unique since Mystic Gohan dropped. And now this Beast Gohan transformation is here. Finally Piccolo gets a powerup. However, I would still like to see improvements for Krillin, Tien or Master Roshi. Or they could give some powerups to 18 and 17. Now that Trunks and Goten are older, it might mean they would be included too. And of course, we have Pan left.

I'm not a big fan of CGI but the animation for super hero just works for me, Looked wayyyyyyyyyy better than I thought... as a massive gohan fan I'm exited for the future. I hope toei see what studios like Ufoldable and Mappa are doing and bring back Super with amazing animation we can only hope 🙏

Oh my gosh the overlayed scream from the cell saga had the hair stand up on the back of my neck, I love dragon ball so much😂
The on-screen comic-book text can actually be seen reversed and looking like they're projected in some scenes because they're not cartooney additions to the movie, but intentional design by Dr. Hedo on his own creations to live up to his comic-book-superhero love.

But from what I heard is that when Piccolo grows bigger his energy, strength, and stamina will stay the same as it was before when he is normal size so he just never uses it which also explains why Piccolo forgot he could grow in size. Plus he is slower when he grows bigger which doesn’t really come in handy unless you were fighting a giant enemy like a great ape
@@OmegaS-117 Yeah, Piccolo does explain all that in the movie too. He probably didn’t think the technique was useful after Goku beat him while he was using it, since his strength doesn’t change (just his size) and ended up forgetting about it.
I was just confused since you used the word “recover” since that made me think he was injured or something. I think you meant he doesn’t “increase” his strength when he uses that technique.

I remember somewhere that the Namek dragon balls were originally used to reward Namekian warriors with great achievements, so I think that is where the transformation comes from.

This is definitely the best dragon ball movie we have ever gotten besides broly. It might even rank above broly for me. Orange Piccolo and Beast Gohan are 2 of the kost badass forms weve gotten so far in super.
I know I've only just started, but I have to comment right away. Just hurling a grenade into the prison is a perfect villain introduction. And the pay off joke at the end where Krillin is like "Uhh they don't want you back there"
"Why can I see his sound effects?" It's a background gag later, but when 2 poses, his cape creates a holographic background, then glitches out. The visual sound effects are created by the cape. It's so dope.
Ange is probably the first person i ever seen cry to this movie you know🤣

A side note, the manga is adapting the movie right now and theres several chapters devoted to Trunks and Goten at school searching for Hedo as the new Saiyamen 1 and 2. It also has a grown Mai , the manga version is incredible so far! Highly recommend

This movie was something else to watch on the big screen. As someone who watched this series from Dragon Ball, I really liked all the callbacks like you people mentioned. But the fact that this movie can build on from the place it left the story in Dragon Ball Super and the Broly movie based on the story bits of Dragon Ball Z and repurposing some of it.... simply classic! The classic Gohan snap to seeing Piccolo hurt and the sacrifice of an Android similiar to Android 16 back in Z, hands down the best trigger they could have shown after Gohan announcing that he will find his way to level up to Goku and Vegeta in his practice fight against Goku before the tournament of power. Also though most of the Dragon Ball Z movies were declared as non-canon, I liked how they brought back the Super Namekian form from the old movie, Lord Slug, and finally Piccolo can contribute to bigger fights and its not just Goku and Vegeta at the end of the day (No hate for both of them, its just like that the formula of Goku and Vegeta getting the victory was kinda getting monotonous but then again.... its Dragon Ball and I wouldnt be surprised if they get even massive level jumps from here! xD ). I also liked how other characters are also shown to have progressed as well, specially Trunks and Goten grown up and Pan finally grasping her powers through different difficult situations according to her age. On the Goku vs Vegeta side, I like how they are bridging the power levels by constant training on Beerus's planet to give both of them the new forms introduced in the Manga (Ultra Instinct for Goku and Ultra Ego for Vegeta) and would really like it if they didnt repeat the whole thing of this movie in form of episode like they did in the Dragon Ball Super sagas. Would have like to see a bit of Broly as well like just for a min of so if possible since he got introduced in just a movie back and made canon mainly because of Kale from Universe 6.

Honestly loved this movie and as much as i loved piccolo and gohans screen time, i loved the gammas more than anything and became such a huge fan of both of them. Especially gamma 2. I mean i have custom shoes, shirts keychains and figures of the gammas thats how much i loved them.

just in case some idiots tryes to push out false words ill explain it now. if cell max was completed he would look the same as he was here but would have normal eyes with pupils and be relaxed like semi-perfect cell was. the reason he looked like him was cause semi-perfect cell's looks was toriyamas favorite version of cell. both gamma's power level was equal to both blue goku and vegeta from moro arc. and YES this movie happens after granolah arc. thats FACTS. ad none of you haters can change it. and oh beast gohan's hair color is GREY not silver!!!!
My two favorite parts of this movie are:
- Vegeta beating out Goku, because it’s a callback to the conversation they had at the start of the film regarding Jiren’s efficient use of his power. Goku was training with Broly, and Vegeta was resting his body. Even if Vegeta’s win was because Goku was exhausted, it’s still a win and a good payoff to earlier in the movie.
- This one is probably purely coincidental, but: Piccolo telling Gohan “It’s do or die time.” Because DBZ Abriged included a cover of “Day of Fate.” What was one of the lines? “Right now it’s donor die / my life is on the line and I will not flee.” And who voices Piccolo? Christopher Sabat - a known fan of DBZA and on good terms with Team Four Star!

try to react to it! I love DBZ, but DB has some of my favorite moments of the entire history, and the more comedic/emotional story is good, martial arts take a center stage, and there are some characters that are so iconic there
I’d want them to react to the original Dragon Ball too (or at least watch it off-screen like they did with Z and GT) but…
They definitely might need some warnings that the OG Dragon Ball is an 80s show in Japan. Meaning Toriyama was a LOT younger when he wrote it, he was always more of a comedy-adventure writer before he got into action when he started Z, and most importantly-
Since it was so long ago, sensibilities were different back then. People didn’t care or mind that many things then. So the show is a lot raunchier and dirtier than Z or Super. 😂 Mostly for gags or dirty jokes, but again, since it was the 80s in Japan, they were able to be a lot… let’s say “bolder.”
And I’d prefer to warn them since Oshi no Ko understandably left them feeling a little uncomfortable in some places. Dragon Ball doesn’t have any weird incest shenanigans but it does have a lot of “haha nudity is funny” gags, for both sexes, without any censors.

Honestly the reason why it doesn't remind you of dragon Ball Z is because they made it more like dragon Ball. That's the whole reason. They wanted to add a little bit of story and stuff like that like how the original dragon Ball was. Not just all fight fight fight like everything was after it

The Orange Piccolo form looks that way and is named that way because it's origin is from the nemekians/Dragon Balls. So his color palette is exactly like the Dragon Ball's with light orange and dark orange spots 🔥

It basically means that a Saiyan will find a way to transform and overcome danger the same way. Saiyans are constantly evolving to survive. While yes, Goku and Vegeta have been training their butts off, the writers have laid the groundwork for Gohan's transformation to make sense without all of the training. That's realistically the only way they can write it so another Saiyan character can catch up to Goku and Vegeta. Eventually, something will happen to Goku and Vegeta and I doubt enemy characters will get weaker.
Giving Piccolo and Gohan the shine was awesome. Piccolo knowing full well that once Gohan snapped he would be way too powerful for Cell just like before was nice, telling him to wait and that he could do it while KNOWING he couldn't actually do it at that point and knowing he'd take a beating but that it WOULD lead to Gohan snapping was nicely done. He didn't want to have Gohan endure the beating like happened last time, instead took it on himself knowing it'd be faster if someone Gohan cared about was being hurt and used himself as the bait for Gohan to unleash his monster....pause...the red streak behind him was fucking epic, as it's associated with a massacre in terms of power advancement in Gohan. Pan had been wondering how weird it was that her daddy was once the strongest fighter on the planet, even stronger than Goku and Vegeta, and had never known him like that and saw a glimpse of what Gohan actually unleashing his power looks like. Gohan was always meant to be the strongest of the team anyway. I like that Goku, Vegeta, and now Gohan all have different forms than each other but are all the pinnacle of their current powers. Piccolo finally was able to be relevant in physical battles once again. Overall its a good movie. I'll be interested to see what they do with Gohan Beast in terms of the story in Super now though. Goku and Vegeta are the benchmarks for power in this series and since they didn't get a chance to fight against Cell Max we don't actually know that they couldn't have beat him by themselves as well, my guess is either of them could have. Though not to say Gohan hasn't surpassed their current states of power, he probably has. Gohan always exceeds them when he powers up. Similar to how Vegeta is actually more powerful than Goku when Vegeta unlocks the newer form Goku had already achieved. Goku as a Super Saiyan wasn't really even close to being as powerful as Vegeta was when he unlocked it. Then they both gained ss2 like Gohan had, Vegeta in ss2 was far stronger than Goku in ss2 as witnessed by his ss2 actually being more powerful than Gokus ss3. And ss3 gives you at least a 50x power increase just by switching into it so Vegetas ss2 is AT LEAST 50x more potent than Goku's, both Roshi and Beerus mentioned that despite being in a lesser transformation that he was even stronger than Goku in the stronger one. Vegeta didn't even need the ritual to gain God form, and so on. Gohan is much like that but on ROIDS. He has always had a seemingly infinite well of power he can bring out when the situation requires it....providing he isn't defeated before he can do so. As a toddler he flattened Raditz who was making rag dolls out of Goku and Piccolo combined. A little older but still a small child and he was doing battle with Freeza. Such insanity. Then he goes and transforms into ss2 against Cell and decimates him with absolute ease despite Cell clearly being stronger than Goku AND Vegeta and everyone at their Max, and Gohan just swats him around like he's nothing. Even when they did their beam struggle at the end, Gohan had more than enough power to obliterate Cell but he was in his head about Goku dying and couldn't fully being it to bear through the guilt he felt. Goku spoke to him with King Kais help and had him just let loose with it, just as Vegeta distracted Cell for a second. Cell gets obliterated. Then Gohan decides to stop training, likely a combined effect of his own dislike of fighting and ChiChi being a dragon of a mother. Buu comes around, mops the floor with everyone, INCLUDING Gohan, Gohan does some training and a ritual to unleash some of his power, embarrasses a powered up Buu to the point that absorbing him was the only way he wasn't going to die at Gohans hand. Then Super comes, Gohan is still on his nerd shit, and much weaker than he used to be. But after a very short time training he's able to go toe to toe with Goku in Blue. The dude is nuts. Really. He's fucking broken. His ability to increase his power rapidly is insanely higher than Goku and Vegetas. I think Broly has an overall advantage in terms if increasing his power more consistently quick, but in terms if sheer "FUCK YOU. I'M HIM!" Gohan has seemed unmatched.
