I have the weirdest shiba resuce.
I was expecting a hard to raise dog but hes the sweetest friendliest and most polite dog I've ever meet.
He was put up because the older dog was aggressive to him and it wasn't fair to keep him there.
The 8 month old shiba is super happy and these videos have been a big help

My Shiba is incredibly kind to both dogs and cats. He turns 5 in September. He often sits at the gate facing the street and most dogs that pass by always come forward and greet him. The neighbor's cat even jumps over the gate and goes in to him. He is a bit like Ferdinand the bull. Calm and safe.

Unfortunately, many vets suggest to keep away the puppy before vaccination schedule is fully completed. This means that before 3 months or even 4, the shiba cannot socialize properly. I have a lot of experience and I think for this breed socialisation should start right away after leaving the mother and the siblings. Expose the puppy evaluating the situation, avoiding too complex situations. Do not isolate him because of fear of diseases. Try to discuss a possible compromise between disease prevention and correct socialisation.

Yone, my Shiba Inu male, only shows aggression to other male dogs, even when he lies down to greet them face to face. He is likely to growl softly while observing carefully and then decides to jump to playfullness or aggression. I always keep his leash relaxed but the moment he jumps up and runs toward other dog i might lock the leash. About being cuddled he doesn't struggle or push to get released from my grip, i do hear it on his breathing, he lets out a sigh when he thinks it is enough or uncomfortable, i then release him immediately. Last but not least when he finds a nice piece of chicken or bone on the streets and claims it, I can't even get close because he is suspicious of my shoes and bites and growls at it. (i kicked a bone away once and he was very grumpy that day xD). But for the rest he is really sweet and well behaved.

Lol, since in my country you cannot buy animals like cats or dogs from stores, it is pretty weird to me to actually see some stores in different countries. That they organize playtimes etc is amazing though.

See I have the opposite problem my shiba doesn’t meet a lot of people or dogs but the ones he does meet he’s so excited and happy to meet those other people and dogs and doesn’t know when it’s to much

My shiba is 9 months old now and he's overly excited when he meets others, humans or dogs. He will become obsessed with others on the street, and there's no real "puppy play enclosures" where I live. I wouldve loved that for him but there's none where I live. Now I worry he might become aggressive when he becomes older because I can't make him properly play with other dogs and he seems to always bring too much energy to playing, wanting to bolt towards them, making other (older) dogs snarl at him a lot because he's too wild. I still let him play with dogs that will play with him but he will never greet them calmly. Jimmy seems very calm so I hope I can get to the same point with mine. Thanks for your content, I've been watching even before I got my shiba :)

Have a look in your area if there are other socialisation classes, I found that in my area that are not run in pet shops, but rather separately by trainers. Doggy day cares are also a great way of socialising your dog. Failing that, see if you can get him to meet and play with many assertive, but calm dogs. Dogs learn from dogs best, so a fair adult dog that teaches your puppy how to behave and correct him when needed will be priceless. Our shiba is very good with other dogs, he's a gentelman when it comes to manners, but will immediately communicate to another dog if their behaviour is unacceptable, which helped a lot of local puppy owners :)

Always remember your Shiba will pick up on your ques and emotions. So, if you are anxious, they will be also. Shibas are very perceptive that way.
They will want to try and be 'the leader', unless you instill it in them at an early age that 'You're The Boss'. It takes repetition, as much as they can tolerate in short
sessions. Shibas are super stubborn, but, will
listen with proper training. Make it about Fun! I've raised Shibas from pups, adopted adult Shibas, even ones with special needs. I have had multiple Shibas simultaneously. I have to say, my husband and had one male Shiba for years, until we realized he was lonely when at home, once we adopted a female companion, his demeanor changed immediately for the better. Although, I wouldn't recommend Shibas to everyone, they are a Commitment, Capital 'C'! Our latest pup is an especially challenging male coming into our family after my older male passed, a dynamic I don't think we were prepared for, but, as he gets older, everything gets better. I just go with what I already know.

@@SuperShiba Big shibe! Much wow! 🤣
My Miko (a Mittelspitz boy, 17lbs) loves to meet Shiba but often Shiba growls so Miko growls back. Once in a while we meet Shiba that wants to play and Miko is very happy.
