Simple answer, atlas sucks in solo q below immo
depends on the team and how good your callout and your team game senses are, been playing Atlas in SoloQ for like 2-3 seasons always has good follow up and not shying away to use ult on 1-2 heroes if it benefits the team (like MM, mage, jungler, priority target stuff). Maybe it vary on the player's mindset, I guess. When tanking, you really need to humble yourself down so much.
I agree with the nerf on defense item, Sky Piercer, GW + Lantern he is screwed even against not so fast hero like harley of valir

The fleeting time also suit atlas more because of 600hp, to answer your question about pick rate, Atlas passive (increase phy and magic defense have been nerf a lot 2 years ago patch note 1.7.30 because he's too popular compare to other tanks). The Ultimate's stun duration also changed > into passive freeze.
He was also quickly nerfed upon release to where his s2 -> ult was changed to stun as s2 does normally to just a strong slow.

@@sabomlbb4500 i've met a lot of Atlas (in old time) and I frustrated too when good "Atlas's Ult" happened. But nowadays rarely see that moment, with too many immune skill such as Martis, Valir, Xborg, Yu Zhong, Wan Wan dont forget diggie and purify

One of Atlas's most important kit is his 2nd, but it has long cd which starts after the skill is done.
For a buff i think they could make the initial cd longer but starts when the skill is cast.
Yeah the cd should start when the skill is cast. Not finished. I agree ☝
One word, purify. In rank above mythic they all bring purify for atlas and it doesn't help much that the cd for purify is close to atlas ult cd so unless you bring fleeting time, pray.

(Most) setter tanks are just not suitable for soloq players (assuming most of ML players are solo), especially in lower ranks..
You could get the most epic moments, like catching all 5 of your enemies with your cc, but if none of your teammates are there to do the cleanup, then.. 🤷
And if you do decide to 'guard' someone the entire game, just hope that person know what they're doing.

Yup... Also being too aggressive is typical of atlas users. Then they die and blame us for not being half way across the map 😂

@@TheFool-mg5fc yes, I do have some skill issues.
Pure setters will have problems, yes. But we have plenty of setters that can follow up their own sets. Ruby, Minsi, Gatot, even Julian can set and follow up to varied extent. Of course this only adds to Atlas' unusability though.
The problem with Atlas is with his passive.
They gotta crank the numbers up again to pre-nerf. The reason Atlas was very scary before because he was roaming alot faster than Tigreal & Khufra while having decent defense uptime since it's in his passive. If they raise it up abit more it would be perfect since a good Atlas player knows how to get 100% passive uptime.

The buffed passive plus the new fleeting time made him more durable during early game
Atlas and Zhask together is actually insane. Such an underrated duo. As for Atlas, after he use his ultimate in the enemy. What does he do? Stands around the enemy or back off because all his skills is on cooldown. I wish he can be able to do something after he uses his ultimate. He relies too much on his ultimate. One buff I’d recommend is the 2nd skill. They should let his cooldown begin the moment he uses his skill 2 instead of starting after he merged back together. Another buff I’d recommend is larger range on ultimate. Or they can make his skill 1 more useful by making its cooldown a lot shorter. They can also buff his passive by allowing him to freeze his enemy a little longer or they can just his make the freeze easier to activate. The biggest weakness for Atlas is if you notice he doesn’t have flicker and you just saw him after he merged back using skill 2, you can actually poke him. Another weakness is purify, diggie, and anyone who has cc immune. He’s definitely just meh right now. Other tanks outshines him because they are not reliant on their ultimate and some of them are also tankier. Btw he needs a new skin. All the human heroes keeps getting skin, while unique non human heroes doesn’t get any.
Still sad that moonton removed his ability to reduce attack speed. For me, the biggest downside on why Atlas wasn't as picked as Tigreal is because his skillsets doesn't really provide great cc without ult. With the freeze on passive, he is much better on clash since he isn't ult reliant anymore
After the passive nerf he's kinda squishy and can't survive long in a clash

as an atlas main reasons why atlas can still struggle because of mainly hayabusa and hanabi, mainly anti cc heroes. It really just become a problem if the enemy have 2 or 3 of them in the team not to mention in soloq allies just picks late game oriented heroes where when you set in the early to mid game it isnt garanteed to kill even one enemy
I think, opponent will always pick diggie whenever they see atlas. It doesnt matter if its any other set up tank, but whenever theres atlas, theres diggie for some unknown reason
it's been a while since I've played the game but from what I remember he's kinda weird.
his only purpose as a set-tank is to (obv) set enemies and tank their damage. but he sucks so much at tanking that he gets out-sustained by a burst khaleed and tank layla. building him to be tanky will also drastically hurt his cdr so it's really either you build him tanky (which still won't really make him that much tankier) and suffer with sets, or build him as a set-god but get oneshot by everything.
I think a really good buff for him would be to only let his octopus form take dmg while using his 2nd skill, as his body also taking damage only makes him a much, much bigger target. maybe giving his octopus form some shield or slight def increase ontop of that would be good too. I heard that the revamped icecrown let's you use skills while being frozen, so maybe it'd help him with his squishiness too.
I used to play atlas, I don’t use it anymore because of several reasons like his passive hybrid defense nerf and lack of multiple cc (compare it to minotaur or tigreal, minotaur has the ability to use his skill 1 up to 2 times if you use it before ult, and for tigreal his 2nd skill has 2 phases, so if you use it to initiate you can still use it again unlike atlas)
"Was" an atlas main. Now I actually use more damage sponges(hylos) or hybrid roamers(nat, edith, barats) actually. He is still good tbh and I play him whenever I see a teammate whom I can combo with.

@@kevin_brok no they said Nat is a hybrid roamer. We have tank roamers (Tig, Hylos), damage roamers (Saber, Helcurt), and support roamers (Rafa, Diggie). Hybrid roamer is a combination of 2 or all 3. Edith and Barats can tank and damage, Mathilda can damage and support. But wtf combination can Nata do besides damage?
@@straypaper maybe the hybrid means it can be a flex heroes. natalia can be place on jungle or roam, hylos, edith can be exp or roam, saber can be jungle or roam etc.

Atlas não tem um efeito de controle imediato como a maioria dos tanks. Precisa de um certo tempo para sua passiva ativar e ela te obriga manter proximidade letal com os inimigos, até mesmo sua Ultimate tem um pequeno atraso. A maioria dos jogadores querem apertar os três botões e com isso conseguir te impedir de jogar.

Why you never use 1st skill along with 2nd skill movement?
In Ph, if you pick atlas early, the enemy will just simply pick Valentina or diggie if not banned

Honestly, I still like him cause of his ult. Prob the best setter but not the best tank, after ult, you're basically nothing cause he's squishy af even with def items
I suck at using active skill items (because it requires perfect timing) and Atlas relies too much on his ultimate (one mistake in the late game and you're done) yeah... or maybe it's just me who doesn't suit him
Only 2 reason i rarely pick atlas ("rare" doesn't mean i dont like pick it)
1. mobility, compare to other tanks, just my personal pov, experiencs atlas walks a bit slower than others. i know can counter with emblem movement speed stats but i like to use hybrid def stats rather than mov. speed stats emblem. and can counter with 2nd skill but sometimes i like to save 2nd skill for skill2-ulti combo when my flicker is cd.
2. based on situations;
usually for less-dashed junglers (fighter/tank/mage) i pick atlas or carmilla because easy to use ulti on them, kinda hard to catch assasin junglers(ling, fanny, haya) with atlas' ulti, i picked khufra or belerick(ulti) to counter them

the weakness of Atlas is slow mov speed, squishy, and his cc not much good if compared with Tigreal that have multiple cc, stun, knockback, knockup, immobilize, slow
It's a slight buff for him. His passive was nerfed a lot time ago if you remember. He needs a buff for his S1 to cast it faster.
One of the reason why is his ultimate.
For some reason, 99% of the time I uses his ultimate there will be lag that make me not able to drag the enemy to my side.
OR the game straight up become more unstable when I use him not sure why😢

He is squishy as compared to other tanks.
His cd is very long his main kit when he dont have his ultimate is his skill2 which has a super long cd.
Without ultimate he is kinda useless and cant protect his teammates.

As solo roamer player, a setter tank not work really well in this patch since first turtle is very crucial moment right now and most midlaner not really understand how to share exp. Thats the first point either our team or enemy team start snowballing. So yeah its better play chip, etc which doesnt relay on ultimate to stun enemy jungler during turtle contest.

I don't use Atlas that much bcs Solo que now is full of dumb teammates. Doesn't even know how to play safe when I'm rotating. Keep spamming "tank?" when my skills are on CD.

Atlas sucks in today's meta tbh, people know that Purify or diggie is his counter basically once you pick Atlas while forgetting to ban diggie, you're screwed.
His passive basically non-existent (only his freeze is useful) and nerf on tank items defense make him no longer viable in today's Meta since most tank nowadays can engange + disengage easily (e.g Gloo Akai Chip Edith Khufra, you name it)
Before you call me names, i was top 30 local atlas for 4 seasons and the reason i leave him he is sucks compared to renewed Akai, Buffed Edith / Gloo and Minsi
Yes. Too many counters to begin with for Atlas, very ult-reliant because his common skills only provide small dmg and stun which makes his SS the only powerful ability in his kit. His passive is too hard to utilize because he doesn't last long enough in a teamfight for the freeze cc to take place (magic & phy def boost almost non-existent in the passive). And like you said, he's a hard , pure initiator but with no disengaging or counter utility that a lot of meta tanks already provide.
