Jagger's brilliant lyrics...'rode a tank, held a general's rank, when the Blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank'... there is no need for a devil. Humans are quite capable of being devils. Amazing song. Loved your reaction.
Keith plays bass on this track, as well as guitar. He's a massively underrated bass player. Stellar production from Jimmy Miller. Every instrument and voice used as rhythm tracks.
Damn girl! You're enjoying the song like a true 60's Stones fan. Shaking your body, head and soul like you're doing it, it was always the early stones intentions from rhythm and blues....
My favourite part about the song is Keith Richard's guitar solo, fabulous tone but beautifully understated, compliments and enhances the song without overpowering it. Interestingly it's one of the reasons Slash was reluctant for GnR To cover the song because of how iconic the guitar riff is.
For a brief time period they wouldn't play this song live because every time they did, something bad happened (this was the song they were playing in the Altamont film "Gimme shelter" in the footage that shows the Hell's Angels killing an audience member who they thought was attempting to attack the group). And in another incident, while they were performing it live Keith Richards was knocked unconscious when he was electrocuted by his own guitar.
Stones have a ton of great songs. This has always been one of my favorites. My personal fav is "She's a Rainbow." Also "You Can't Always Get What You Want." I'm a sucker for orchestration.
Nicky Hopkins kind of dominates this song with his piano. Scribe there was no cut & paste back then , those "woo woo's" had to be sung through the whole song!
I love this song. This is a very dark song! Yet it is so appropriate in it's theme to the deception that hides the evil it sings of, so innocent sounding! Almost humorous. Until you actually listen to the words. It's brilliant.
I love your reactions in general, but especially on this. You really should check out some more Stones stuff. Just off the top of my head: "Honky Tonk Women", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Sway", "Midnight Rambler", "Tumbling Dice"...
Reminds me of the 70's. This song would come on while I was driving. I would look at the speedometer, 90mph every time. Good thing the cars come with cruise control, now.
Great reaction. Love ALL your reactions. Plus...Happy Birthday..fellow Gemini. I was born in 1958 Friday the 13th. June 13th Friday ...1958. I knew there was a reason I liked you. Best
"Sympathy for the Devil" is lyrically and instrumentally (some stingin' guitar in this!) the best 'Stones song. Definitely a Top 5 tune of theirs!... Good reaction and analysis, $C! Try "Tumblin' Dice" if you wanna add some soul to your funk!...
Love your stuff, Scribe. Your voice and comments are fire. Try "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones. A beautiful love song and quite different from their usual image.
Happy Sunday my beautiful rockin' Queen Scribe! Love how you did your rendition of Proud Mary. Hmmm...I can see you covering that song. What a great way to start off my Sunday evening with The Stones. ❤️💝👑😍🥰🌹🌺🔯❣️💕💞💓💗💘💖💟⭐️🌟✨
Amazing song. That’s 1968! Way ahead of their contemporaries like the Beatles. They are the Greatest Rock & Roll Band Of All Time. Always mixed it up, they’ve done reggae, funk, pop, disco, hard rock..Total funky song from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards & Co., oh another thing you are a cutie..
Great reaction, order the CD "Beggars Banquet" yul be doin' the thing smart, you will own it. Keith was playing stabbing licks on his Telly. How about "Ruby Tuesday" and don't forget "She's a Rainbow", good incisive comments.it's a 10.
Actually that came After Mick Taylor left and Ronnie came in. I think the disco influence was Micks idea because Keith (the Rock Riff King) Richards would never bring that s**t up, haha.
This was the sound track to the murder of Meredith Hunter by the Hell’s Angels at Altamont Free Concert on 12/6/69. Sad, fitting way for the 60’s to die too. If you can, give the movie, Gimme Shelter a watch. Oh, and Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main St.
Sitting around the house at beer-thirty in the afternoon, and I came across your review of this gem. The Stones have been around so long that their sound varies between RnB influenced rock, classic rock, Southern rock, and country rock. This is a rabbit hole worth exploring. They will amaze you. Fun fact: Mick Jagger(the lead vocalist)learned how to dance from Tina Turner. Love your reviews, and keep up the great work.
Remember, the Rolling Stones started out as an English blues band, immersing themselves in the underground UK blues scene that was trying copy and emulate the black American blues men from across the pond who they were influenced by and idolized during a time when those black artists recieved no love, appreciation or recognition in their own country at the time.
Great reaction. What you said at the end there about Kennedy... he actually says "Who killed the Kennedys?" plural. It's very cool and interesting that you thought he said or meant JFK only, because originally it was written early in 1968 as "Who killed Kennedy?", just JFK. However, they began recording the song at the studio on the 4th of June 1968. Two days later on June 6 Robert Kennedy was killed. They right away changed the line as it is today to "Who killed the Kennedys?".
Loved your comments and energy. To check out something very different, but pleasing and a journey into another culture, check out Coke Studio “Paar Chanaa De” or “Heeray”. Use subtitles.
I love watching you feel the groove. So hot. Anyway, I always took this song to mean dont blame the devil for the bad shit we do. The devil might open the door, but we choose to enter.
That there is argualy one of the most influential electric guitar solos ever recorded. When you can check out the 1968 documentary film "Sympathy for the Devil" that Jean-Luc Godard made of The Rolling Stones figuring out this song in the recording studio. You might find it surprising.
Jagger got inspirerd to whrite this great song after have read Bulgakows absoplut masterpiece, The master and Margarita, a story about whats happen when thje Devil, Mr Wodan, comes to Moskwa in the 1930:s its also a sidestory about Jesus about Pontius Piatus. This is a must have read-book, just do it
Jagger's brilliant lyrics...'rode a tank, held a general's rank, when the Blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank'... there is no need for a devil. Humans are quite capable of being devils. Amazing song. Loved your reaction.
Well said. I like how when Jagger sings the word “stank” he emphasizes the “k” almost like he’s spitting it out.
Mick reading too many books that Marianne Faithful had given him ❤️
Rolling Stones - "Cant You Hear Me Knocking"
The best Stones song
Keith plays bass on this track, as well as guitar. He's a massively underrated bass player. Stellar production from Jimmy Miller. Every instrument and voice used as rhythm tracks.
Playing bass is playing root notes of lead. Of course he can play bass.
Wow I didn’t know that
culdnt hold a candle to bill's bass..........there's lead...........and there's bass .........stay in the right lane , keef...
This is when the Rolling Stones really came into their own in a big way.
This one and wild horses are my favorite songs from the stones.
Wow...
A real reactions. You were actually LISTENING. Caught all of the music, beats, the lyrics...
I am a fan!
I love how absorbed you get in the music you're listening to. That in itself is a great reaction!
Wild Horses.
Have you done Brown Sugar? How about Time is on my side? Under my Thumb? Angie? This is a huge rabbit hole
She is Brown Sugar.
Those are all EXCELLENT songs to react to! I agree!!
Angie is so so sooo good.
Perfect for weddings and family get togethers. 😉
it is though....
Yes..... perfect for an ADDAMS family get together!
You MUST know my peeps, lmaooooooo 🤣😂🤣🤣
I'm only 28 and I've did that. Went well actually
One of the most iconic songs in the history of rock n roll.
Laces out
This is not only rock and roll. This song is something different. A really masterpiece
One of the greatest songs ever.
Gimme Shelter, Stray Cat Blues, Moonlight Mile, the list is endless.
Damn girl! You're enjoying the song like a true 60's Stones fan. Shaking your body, head and soul like you're doing it, it was always the early stones intentions from rhythm and blues....
Happy belated Birthday, Scribe
That guitar solo is one of my all time favorites! It sounds like Lucifer himself is playing it.
The slashing style in such a high pitch fit so well... but we ARE dealing with genius here....
My favourite part about the song is Keith Richard's guitar solo, fabulous tone but beautifully understated, compliments and enhances the song without overpowering it. Interestingly it's one of the reasons Slash was reluctant for GnR To cover the song because of how iconic the guitar riff is.
These are my boys. You gotta listen to more stones. Greatest rock n roll band ever.
ScribeCash you really feel it! Great reaction!!
Ruby Tuesday and It's only rock n roll (But I like it)
Street Fighting Man and Jumpin Jack Flash are iconic and worth a listen
I love this song. This is a very dark song! Yet it is so appropriate in it's theme to the deception that hides the evil it sings of, so innocent sounding! Almost humorous. Until you actually listen to the words. It's brilliant.
This whole album (Beggars Banquet) is worth a listen: Street Fighting Man, Jigsaw Puzzle, Factory Girl…,
I love your reactions in general, but especially on this. You really should check out some more Stones stuff. Just off the top of my head: "Honky Tonk Women", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Sway", "Midnight Rambler", "Tumbling Dice"...
Sway, Under My Thumb, Tumbling Dice, Torn and Frayed, Soul Survivor, Sister Morphine, Midnight Rambler, and Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker).
And... Ventilator Blues, one of their best next to Can't ya hear me knocking
Best
I rode a tank, held a General's rank, when the Blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank.
My personal favorite Stones tune! Nice guitar work by Keith, the seemingly immortal.
When he mentions St. Petersburg, he is making reference to the bolshevik revolution in Russia...imo
Loved how you picked up on the rhythm section. Some say the best in the biz and I can't argue. Big time Latin flavor mixed with the blues
Gimme shelter is still #1 for me. But I've always loved this one too. Miss you is good when I want to move my legs and hands. Fortune teller too lol
Love your stuff, Scribe. Your voice and comments are fire. Try "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones. A beautiful love song and quite different from their usual image.
This was the first guitar solo I ever learned! Mainly because of that gnarly guitar tone!
Like nothing else! Perfect rock n roll.
The right background color for this track.
Yeah you can call them that, but, doesn't deflect from, the fact, that, The Beatles, simply are, the best band of all time. The Stones followed.
This was litty before litty was even a word!!!!...
That guitar .... Never too much ... The Stones had so many songs that weren't really rock, or anything else but .. What they were ... Perfection ..
Hey lady.
Some good back-of-the-head scratching towards the end.
First song I Remember hearing as a kid. I was two years old and I was hooked!
Check out Stones live November 1969 at the Gardens playing Midnight Rambler. And turn it up...
Love your take on the song. And, as always, you're simply gorgeous.
great reaction, one of my favourite all time songs, enjoyed seeing you experience that
You do have a good voice!! Respect
nice appreciation analysis - you so musical
Try "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (mellow jam with choir).
Great, they tried the samba beat at Hyde park but on the US tour of 69 played it more of a driven rock song
Great reaction, order the CD "Beggars Banquet" yul be doin' the thing smart, you will own it. Keith was playing stabbing licks on his Telly. How about "Ruby Tuesday" and don't forget "She's a Rainbow", good incisive comments.it's a 10.
If you want to see a live version of this song, there’s a reaction by Dax something. You also get a quick peek at John Lennon
Memory Motel off the Black & Blue Album. One of the Stone's hidden gems. You will love it.
I luv the early stuff that the Stones did ! Under my Thumb omg ! Better than The Beatles IMHO .
What an incredible track😎 awesome
Pleased to meet you. Hope you guess my name.
If what's troubling you, is the nature of my game.
Shattered. That's a Stones song that will rock you!
It is a great song but for stones I'm paint it black all the wau

Rolling Stones - "Get Off of My Cloud" & "Gimme Shelter"
Bill Wyman was an Ace of bass.
Keith's playing the bass on this song.
Brian Jones was the soul of the Stone's music his loss was why you got disco stones.
Actually that came After Mick Taylor left and Ronnie came in. I think the disco influence was Micks idea because Keith (the Rock Riff King) Richards would never bring that s**t up, haha.
Keep smiling... beautiful!
Their magnus opus. I could tell you liked it.
Monster of a song. 1968.
Actually they were playing Under my Thumb when Meredith Hunter got killed by the Hell's Angels.
The Stones had a cool raw blues rock vibe back in the day. Jimmy Page from Led Zep is also playing guitar on this song.
Jimmy Page is not playing guitar on this. Its ALL Keith Richards
What Up SC, check out all versions of SISTER MORPHINE.
I can't believe that bottle of 409 hasn't been used up yet . 😀 keep up the good work ,keep rockn. 🤘🤘🤘
I love those athletic tops you wear. You have a wonderful personality
409 needs to give you some proceeds for background ad's :) seen it more then once in a video
I guess you have to know history to appreciate the brilliance of these lyrics.
Sitting around the house at beer-thirty in the afternoon, and I came across your review of this gem. You do great reactions .
Great reaction. What you said at the end there about Kennedy... he actually says "Who killed the Kennedys?" plural. They right away changed the line as it is today to "Who killed the Kennedys?".
First time watching someone listening to this song who is a complete void on the historical refences within the lyrics.
Spot on with your interpretation.
I encourage you to listen to this live. Bridges to Babylon tour 1997 St Louis, look it up. Also turn it up loud.
Loved your comments and energy. To check out something very different, but pleasing and a journey into another culture, check out Coke Studio “Paar Chanaa De” or “Heeray”. Use subtitles.
Nice to see a pic with Brian Jones. RIP
This explains the crossfire hurricane thing..
That guitar hits like a razor blade, which is perfect for this song!
Enjoyed,your a scream.Stones are awesome.Take care lady X.
Four chords to heaven right here.
This and Paint It Black are probably my favorite Stones songs. BTW, it wasn't JFK, the line is "who killed the Kennedys" which includes RFK.
Slobbered on my guitar neck more than once with this🤤
She's very very pretty astonishing fantastic fabulously tremendously terrific as she is i love her reaction to the rolling stones 👍🤟👍🤟
I love watching you feel the groove. So hot. Anyway, I always took this song to mean dont blame the devil for the bad shit we do. The devil might open the door, but we choose to enter.
Pinnacle Stones right there.
Ol' black water
Keep on rolling
Rolling Stones Tumbling Dice also listen to Sweet Virginia and Dance little sister dance
Please do "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" by the Rolling Stones. A super long groove you'll love.
That there is argualy one of the most influential electric guitar solos ever recorded. When you can check out the 1968 documentary film "Sympathy for the Devil" that Jean-Luc Godard made of The Rolling Stones figuring out this song in the recording studio. You might find it surprising.
You've got to watch some of the interviews with Keith Richards, you won't believe it... ps he also played a pirate in pirates of the Caribbean...
Wanna ROCK???? Listen to the live version of this song from their 1969 album - get yer yas yas out!!’ Mick Taylor on 2nd and most awesome lead!!!

Serious Lisa Bonet Angel Heart vibe here! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
June 13th was my late brother's birthday and he loved this fucking song, lol.
Taking us through several events in history....and The Devil was present the ENTIRE time.
