  • As one of the last videos I plan to make about the U19 and U23 world championships Varese 2022, I picked the junior mens double scull. Germany won in an impressive style, syncing up their masses the most effective way. The interesting comparison is between the styles of Germany, Turkey, Italy and the Netherlands.

    Love the video analysis!
Could you maybe do a technique video on how to start fast but effectively? (Slide length in the first strokes, how long to keep the rate up after the start, whether its effective to blast all out or to start really conservative, etc..)

Ok. Will put it on the list

    Hi Aram
I have watched this one twice ! The first time was very interesting but now after watching so many other videos from yours and hence learning more , I can now see it in a lot more detail how as and when to move body mass back .
Thank you so much for your time !

So glad to hear you continually re-hammeging on these fundamentals. I noticed I get a much better force curve when I strictly keep my heels down. And even though it "feels" like I'm losing reach, my effective drive increases by an average of 5-10watts.
I'm curious what your thoughts are on "sitting up tall." Assuming correct hip swing, I noticed I can sit up taller, and it effects my stroke at the expense of more energy output, especially in the abs, hip flexors, and general trunk stabilizers. This is slow Erging so it might not apply normally, but this had me thinking of you and biomechanics. What's going on when I sit tall? Should I be using these trunk muscles, or is sitting tall making stabilizers into movers at the expense of energy?
Thanks for all you do Aram 💪♥

Great observations, helps my 2x! Looks like the Dutch bow is leaning forward much more at the catch so has to shorten at the finish, so maybe footplate position needs moving?

I’m surprised they all stopped rowing before the finish line.

Hi Aram, great analysis as usual, a physiological question here,
What do you think is more advantageous in sculling: longer trunk vs longer legs? I've seen this question being asked on reddit and would like to see your take on it

Can anyone comment on the fact that the Germans almost lost it at the finish 🙂

Isn't the Dutch bow also using his arms too early? Or is that just me

Yes. No crew seems to be perfect
