    For houses when people want to pay card, I run it through square. It prompts them to tip and they always do 😁

    Love it! Quicken sounds interesting for keeping things straight. With the big companies I weigh things out, some want you to wait 60days for $45, not worth it😝 I don’t do anything until they pay me for the last time. Great video

    I own a sealcoating business and Ive had a few residential customers not pay up. They know its not worth taking them to court over a couple hundred dollars. Ive never had an issue with bigger jobs tho.

    Great info that is learned from many years in business. If I can add just one suggestion regarding 'store fronts', I personally don't do "one-offs" and so am not worried about them having a receipt to find me again. They have to go a schedule of some kind. In fact I don't do one-offs on houses either unless it is a sale or rental. I explain all of this to potential clients and most agree. Some clients will of course not stick to the schedule but most will and we have built a good size business of recurring income which adds a great value to the company if I ever want to sell.

    When it comes to Market-Deliver-Collect it seems like it's easy to forget "collect" so this is a great topic. I've found that having billing expectations in a clearly worded service agreement that is attached to the estimate, really helps later on. Like you said, be real nice at first and I'll just say, "hey I'd rather check in with you now before that first late fee hits... do you need me to extend it out another week?"... then, you shouldn't feel bad adding in a late fee after there's been really nice and clear communication before the job ever started, and a week before the late fee was supposed to happen.

    I do mostly residential right now and have had good luck getting paid, like Steve here I let them pay me after the job but there is always that worry of getting ripped. Good topic though, I’m looking for more store fronts. Thanks SteveO!!

    I went to Office max had them print me off mailing stickers with everything thats on my business card. I can put them on sales order sheets, receipts, or tools. that was very cost effective for starting out. instead of custom printed stuff.

      Same exact thing. I just stick it to the top of the customer carbon copy. When people aren't home I just leave it at the door.

      I'm thinking about getting a custom stamper made and trying that out because it would be cheaper. Every penny counts.

      @@matthewlester2907 that is great. think back a hundred years or so ago. when they used to do it. a stamp was probably it! not paying for leads and such gives you an edge over bigger competition.

    If you do work for some of the big construction companies here in the Vail area you can expect to wait 90 days. I don't do work for those companies anymore and in fact I don't do construction cleanup on windows anymore. Second home owners I do 30 day terms and charge 3 percent service charge for late remittance.

    If someone rips me off I just cut ties with them and tell my competitors to avoid them as well. Getting ripped off is eventual. Don’t lose sight of the fact that most of your customers are decent and honest people who pay on time. Don’t poison yourself by wasting time being a collections department.

    • @matthewlester2907
      @matthewlester2907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep! In the last 5 or 6 years I've had only 2 customers stiff me. The first was a 350 dollar window job and I tried to sue. I found out quick it isn't worth the effort. The second time I got really petty. I paid a guy 10 dollars an hour to walk back and forth on the sidewalk in front of his house holding a sign saying "this homeowner likes to hire contractors and not pay them". 🤣 probably not very professional but I was owed 500 dollars for a power wash and not thinking logically. Lol

      @@matthewlester2907 lol that part about paying someone to shame a stiff was pretty funny. But yeah that’s not something I’d waste time and money on.

    I am in the UK 🇬🇧, we schedule everything monthly, and for new customers its direct debit only. No chasing payments.
    I've been at it for 15 years, and chasing customers for cash can be very frustrating and time consuming, and can also make some small jobs unprofitable if you have to spend allot of time collecting.

    The longest lag I have is 60 days. I have one account I clean every 60 days. But in between that I do a restaurant biweekly for the same guy. Just pays for everything every 2 months, if he's gonna be late he always tosses me more

    The way I see it, once the job is done the money is yours. I avoid larger companies. I allow 7 days before I send a reminder, after 14 days I call them and ask them to pay.

    Hey, Steve-O.
    I do order pretty much everything through WCR. Was just wondering, if I order through you is there any price difference or do you just get a commission? Also, when I order online I typically get my stuff in 2 days flat unless there's a problem with FedEx. If I order through you would I get my stuff shipped as fast? Thanks!

    I’m confused here. Why would anyone demand payment up front? You provide a luxury service, what kind of luxury restaurant would demand payment before your meal comes out? I actually refuse advance payments because if something about the job changes I’m left having to chase them down to give a full or partial refund or tell them why the job is going to cost more (and this has happened). It’s easier for me on all levels to just collect payment after the job is finished.

    Have you ever been stiffed? I’ve had some struggles lately with just a few home owners.
    I was polite but stern

    • @DBCSwindow
      @DBCSwindow 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most I ever got stiffed on was $25. Just be firm and don’t let anyone disrespect you. Everyone gets ripped off at some point, don’t let that overshadow the vast majority your customers who pay on time and treat you with basic human dignity.

    I feel like a residential window cleaning ticket is low enough that you don't need a deposit before working, and collecting payment after shows your customer they can trust you and feel safe that you are going to give them a good job. It's an advertising thing really. You look a little weird and money grubby if you say "pay me first"
