Welcome 2 Detroit: Trevor Jackson's "Me Likey" Dance Battle w/ Special Guest Diggy Simmons

Trevor Jackson and Diggy Simmons stopped in Detroit from Aug. 9 to Aug. 10 during their “Who Else But Us Tour”. A part of the tour included a Trevor Jackson “Me Likey” Dance Battle at Collective Studios in Oak Park, Mich. on Aug. 9 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. sponsored by LiveSmart Bars and Hot 107.5.
Trevor Jackson, is an 18-year-old singing sensation and Atlantic Records artist, that has a single called “Me Likey” feat. Kirko Bangz from his upcoming debut album Mrs. Jackson “Me Likey” is a fast paced dance track with a lot of energy in every verse.
He explains why his single “Me Likey” was selected for contestants to dance to in the full out battle.
“It’s just a dance song. I feel you can play it at a club, at a barbecue, and anywhere you want to have a good time. You can put this on and you can dance to it,” said Jackson.
There were a total of 13 teams and soloist that participated in the dance battle through two stages of the competition. The judges; Didi Capers, U Know Cell, LaTicia Moore, and Cam Baxter; deliberated which soloist and team had the best choreography to “Me Likey”.
The group winners were Believe 3 and the soloist winner was Kilah-Marie.
Kilah-Marie Johnson, a 19-year-old sophomore chemistry major at Wayne State University, from Flint, Mich., said the dance battle gave her an opportunity to showcase her passion for dancing.
“Trevor is super talented, his talent is unmatched. It was an amazing to be out here dancing for him and Diggy because they inspire me,” said Johnson.
Laronn Harris, an Ohio Valley, Promotions Manager at Atlantic Records helped organize the event along with Collective Studios owner, Prevail Jones. The purpose of the dance battle was not only to promote the single “Me Likey” but to encourage positivity amongst young people as well.
“We wanted to do something different and creative in an environment that’s conducive for dancing. We just want to promote the new positive energy that’s going on in the city of Detroit. It’s the ‘new cool’ to be smart and healthy; that’s what cool is; we’re redefining it,” said Harris.
