I agree. I even think in real life it suits the design more, since you don't have to follow every colour exactly the way it is in a 2D animation.

This is a stronger hued golden dress than the animated lemon yellow. You did a great job. The draping is beautiful.

I'll be honest, I was SO disappointed with the live action version of the dress, and I saw several talented TH-camrs making their own versions of the dress and they were ALL better than than the movie version in my opinion.
You have been added to that list!
The live action is a pretty dress, but it doesn't fit:
-The character
-The time period she lives in
-Her location
-The people she's around
-The circumstances she's in
-Literally anything except Emma Watson's taste
Maybe it might work better in a movie with a prom in it?
Bro what💀 her dress in the film had the idea of literal gold from the ceiling of a castle floating magically down and on to her dress 💀 come on that's cool
@@Somewhere-over-the-rainbow I definitely adored the _idea_ of the gold floating onto her dress and it could've been amazing, but the fact that you can barely even see the detail while she's dancing was really disappointing for me. I was expecting a dress more grand with intricate detailing, but instead we got a dress that mostly just looks like plain solid fabric :( Can you imagine if they redid that scene but with sturdier gold pieces that wrapped and wound itself around the dress more substantially instead of what looks like stickers pasting itself onto the dress?
They could've even incorporated some details like a few ruffles or ribbons to make the dress more dynamic and textured, as a nod to the fact that the film is set in 18th century France. Nothing over the top, just not a plain prom dress with a weird pale color that makes her look washed out in this grand golden ballroom. Almost nothing about the dress resembled the original, and the lack of respect toward the source material got me a little sad ngl
@@mayah2397 yeah I agree. But ngl when I was younger and I watched that I wanted so badly for gold to float down from my ceiling 🤣 lol. But yeah, she looked absolutely washed out. She was just there and she blended in with the room too much 😂haha

I love your videos and noticed you have issues when it comes to dying. I would like to ask when you are dying as i do not see bubbles in the tub behind you are you putting in dish detergent as the bottle says while you have it on the stove top as that could be an issue i use rite dye to dye my fabric and the only issue tends to be the color bleeding a lil in wash until its set. I've also used it to dye white faux peals blue. Hope that may help with some of your trouble setting unless its part of the process you have done but not show. keep up the good work!

You nailed it!!!
To keep the gathering from falling out you can:
1. use elastic,
2. gather with the gathering stitches then stitch over the gathered fabric with normal stitching.
Is there any risk of the elastic losing its ability to snap back over time? I was thinking you could gather, and then sew over, but also add something like a twill tape on the wrong side to really help hold that weight up

I love this dress!! I started sewing about a year ago but I am petrified to make a dress :(
Be brave! Go for it! Find yourself a nice simplicity pattern and just go for it! There’s no time like the present! I started out with dresses (not these enormous Disney ball gowns of course) and the first ones I ever made I’ve actually now had the time to take apart and remake in ways that I like better. And with every attempt there’s improvements! I have faith in you to go for it and make something that makes you happy and that you can be proud of!
