Watching this as a VOD and the discussion about Patrick pretending that he IS the character to get the best out of himself is so fascinating. Man. Voice actors are so cool.
While not in the industry and still just doing it as a hobby I’ve been taking classes for past half year and literally almost every teacher I’ve had has given the same exact advice of just really trying to be the character! It’s definitely helpful, a lot of the time you end up overthinking and you just need to let all your thoughts go and really ‘Chanel’ the character your playing and just speak from the heart!
That is the true meaning of method acting. Not being the character all the time, but for the lines or scenes try to put yourself in the characters shoes.
patrick’s completely right on feeling emo with scara’s lines! his entire character is so moving and the voice-acting helps create so much of the emotion. i haven’t even experienced 1% of the grief scara has, but man did it hurt hearing his past self in the interlude quest and his teaser
The fact that Patrick just exudes surfer boy energy is SO funny to me 😭😭 also the fact he describes his interaction with scaramouche as one of his homies or something is oddly sweet

You have no idea how much I love Scaramouche's EN voice. I've been in love since his first appearance in the Unreconciled Stars event, back when I didn't even like Scaramouche himself. You know when you have favorite VAs that are hired mostly to do their iconic voice even though they are capable of wider ranges? That's how I feel about Patrick Pedraza and Laura Bailey. I hope he shows up in more shows and games because I love his voice sooo much. It's so soothing. He doesn't even need to act, just hearing him speak makes me feel happy. I'm just grateful I ever get to know his works through Genshin.

On the topic of channeling different emotions to help create different sounds with your voice, I can strangely relate as a piano player. When I'm in the zone, I can simply think to myself "This needs more fire" or "This needs to be more gentle" or "This needs to feel like gasping for air" or "This needs to sound like a sigh and a pensive gaze into a gloomy sky", and somehow, my hands just understand how to do that, and my body movements kinda go with it as well.
Great stream zach, loved the conversations. Its great that you've been taking some more time for yourself, thats something everyone should be mindful of and figuring out when somethings too much is the first step.

He has a lot of new lines in the Sumeru Questline, but compared to other characters it is still not that much. But mabe later in the game😁

On the topic of channeling different emotions to help create different sounds with your voice, I can strangely relate as a piano player.
When I'm in the zone, I can simply think to myself "This needs more fire" or "This needs to be more gentle" or "This needs to feel like gasping for air" or "This needs to sound like a sigh and a pensive gaze into a gloomy sky", and somehow, my hands just understand how to do that, and my body movements kinda go with it as well.
Great stream zach, loved the conversations. Its great that you've been taking some more time for yourself, thats something everyone should be mindful of and figuring out when somethings too much is the first step.
