- Album: Life on the Line (1977). One of the best songs from that second album; Great Pub rock feeling.
Members:
Barrie Masters (vocals), Dave Higgs (guitar), Greame Douglas (guitar), Steve Nicol (drums), Paul Gray (bass)
Some decades ago,the big brother of a friend of mine sold me this single.
My God! Haven't heard this years! For some reason it just popped into my head. I still have the original 45 from 1977 on Island records. So many memories....
I never get tired of EHR! Fk yeah.
one of my all-time favorite Hot Rods songs
Pub Rock Forever!
Yanks like to say that punk started there. Bollocks. It gained early traction and momentum at the same time here, A big part of that was pub rock and whilst some of it became more raw and political, the other side mutated into new wave.
Indeed, as you say, Pub Rock Forever!
I’ve always thought that pre punk movements like the stooges in the US and simplified glam bands like the dolls in the US and Slade and Sweet in the UK started independently. But when the Ramones kicked off and played the UK, that really set the stage for what punk became at least musically, with the fast down stroking. Also, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers playing on the Anarchy tour, since he was such a hero to the punks anyway….either way it’s academic cuz both countries, as usual, made the best most innovative in history by being influenced by each other….I know for us in the States ALL UK bands held a sense of mystery and intrigue and pure charisma. For instance as a kid listening to Play with Fire by the Stones, I wondered about all the places Mick name checked. Listening to Black Country Woman by Zep made me wonder what the Black Country was. Whereas of course I loved my US bands like Aerosmith, the Ramones, etc, but they were from here, they seemed more or less like me.
Case in point with this song: I had to look up the strand !
one of the best bands in the world
real driving head banging brilliant guitar rocknroll
BRILLIANT
Great Record
Fucking excellent!
Fantastick
Great stuff, Do anything you wanna do is great as well,
My second favourite Rods single after Teenage Depression.
Rock.....or die.
This was not on the Life on the Line Album. It was a single.
It was a bonus track on the 2007 reissue, which is probably why he made the mistake.

First heard this when they played Harlow town park in 77
This wasn't on the album, it was released separately as a single. I saw them live a year or so ago, & was disappointed that they didn't do this, or a couple of my other favourites: All I Neeed is Money, & Horseplay.
I'd love to have that photo on a t-shirt, or even framed on my wall. Where does one find a print?
And you've got your dates wrong as well,Teenage Depression their first proper album came out in '77,Life on the Line was '79 I think.Anyhow great version, never heard this before,
Teenage Depresion '76, Life On The Line '77, Thriller '79.
The single version is better by far.
Much more punky.
too right, this is weak by comparison
The single was much shorter with different guitar solo.....oó
re-recording?
