Wanted to say I saw this video and about 2ish months ago and during my current TH-cam game have drilled out and magnetized all my chips and now am onto most of my miniatures and man was it worth it, so much quicker and more organized! Thanks for the video convincing me and giving correct bit sizes to drill with!
That is awesome!! I do love that little thing I stumbled upon. I will have to make another video on a couple of other tidbits that you might like. Thanks for sending me this note.... really made my day!
Your gameboard is a wonderful setup. The magnets were great to play with as they kept things from flopping around. Looking forward to more games at your place!
Right on!
That sound is legit SOOOOO satisfying!!! Dang man, that’s a lot of work (love) you’ve put into your setup! #goals nice work!!!
thanks buddy
KUDOS for all that hard work.
Thanks Alex
Thanks for sharing! I used the same inexpensive Harbor Freight drill press you mentioned to magnetize all my planes. I'd love to add some damage flames attachable by magnet to my capital ships. Well done Dan!
Thanks Matt..... oh you mean those lego orange flames? The ones i used for my convoy markers? With magnets..... MMmmmm now that is a sweet idea that i might have to try out since i am in process now of painting up all my pieces. Better to do now than later. Thanks for the idea!
Woohoo! Congrats!! Now for table #2 and all those pieces:-)
Haha I actually thought about you or sired bringing one of your portables to my house and having a bunch of guys over for pulled pork and BBR. I have a birthday coming up. Birthday boys get whatever they want!
@@Lt.Dan.. who else you know besides Jeff that would play? To fill 2 tables?
Well it was wishful thinking..... I would be 2-3 short!
So you are about 10% done, nice👍
Mmmmm 33.78%
It might've taken you 3 weeks to Magnetize those units, but it took me Three Years of serious Dreaming of Magnetizing my Own units- anyway since I just don't have the needed patience of such a project then I'll just live Vicariously through your hard effort, BTW that is really Great work Lt Dayaaan!!!🥇
Haha.... thanks NoLimit. At the minimum you should do your carriers and planes then the chips might be another one. Chips don’t take that long but payoff is huge like carriers and fighters. Anyway thanks for the comment
Magnificent! (pun fully intended). Do you think the hand drill is enough for magnetizing carriers and planes? Think that is my next project.
I did use it for a couple of OOB carriers as a test. That hand drill I spoke of will come with some super small drill bits that are worthless as you will break them if you try to use them with the hand drill. Instead, I used those super small ones with my dremel to drill super small holes for my scramble bases that i made to hold 3 aircraft. They worked great for that.
Yeah, I remember my first 1,200 magnetizations. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration.
haha I need to count up my other pieces to see what the grand total is.... probably pushing close to 1400. Insane I say
Sounds More like 1200 Daydreams me thinks!!!😁💭💭💭💭
NoLimit * yeah, its more like a 100
What do you use your explosion markers for? I see several across the map. I have the same ones and typically place them on top of damaged factories (with orange chips underneath) as they fit nicely.
Hey man…. You talking about the tall acrylic ones or the little flame ones that I have on the convoy markers?
@@Lt.Dan.. The Litko one you pick up at 12:34
Can use those for declaring attacks or I place them AFTER a battle ….. so then you can see where battles have taken place for a full turn
@@Lt.Dan.. Interesting idea leaving them after a battle for the turn. Thanks Lt. Dan
@@SmokeRingHalo yah then after a full Yur you will see ALL the battles in all countries and then on the next turn each flame moves around or extinguishes…. Would be cooler if they lit up LOL 😂 but I digress
How strong are the magnets? Strong enough to work through whatever map material plus a sheet of plexiglass?
Hey Andy …. Well depends on the thickness of your plexiglass. You might have to UP your sizes because of the plexi. I use APEX magnets and they will tell you the pull force for the magnets. Also when I was designing my table I researched various gauges of metal and what pull force of magnets I needed to make it all work. Don’t have that website since that was a long time ago but you can do a little research and make a good estimate and buy a small quantity to test things. That’s what I did to get dip my toes into it
@@Lt.Dan.. thanks for the info! What is your map printed on? I’m mainly worried about not scratching it but the main purpose is I’m planning on making a classic map with magnetized pieces and framing it for my dad to hang in his man cave so really, scratching shouldn’t be that big of an issue and I may not need the plexiglass over that map.
@@andybates2966 u bet! The material I print on now is super smooth 15oz vinyl. I no longer have to spray a polyurethane coating over this material which is awesome. BUT…. I have sanded ALL the bottoms of my pieces to ensure there are no “gotchas”.
As a side note ORIGINALLY I too was going to hang my map on the wall and frame it but I challenged myself with building the table. Still want to have my map on the wall framed…. Would be cool
@@Lt.Dan.. thanks for the info! I’m hoping to do this for my dads 60th birthday in July and if I manage to pull it off I’ll post it on siredbloods site!
@@andybates2966 awesome can’t wait to see!
Hope yoe had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.
Thank you and you as well!
What’s going on in China with that HORDE of troops?!?! Lol
Who would do such a thing.... ludicrous
@@Lt.Dan.. the owner of that horde is probably a little off their rocker
so how did you magnatize the map? just magnetic paper underneath or did you print it on some.
Hi Brian.... I have a big piece of sheetmetal underneath that the magnets are attracted to. Here is a quick video that shows it when i was building my table >> th-cam.com/video/GptzZdA-EUY/w-d-xo.html
