If you are enjoying cosy mysteries, I highly recommend Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series. You get quite attached to the recurring characters and their whimsical humour and quirky personalities. Start with Still Life.
It’s too fun to hear you talk about reading a Mary Higgins Clark book! My grandmother (who passed away in 1999) absolutely loved that author!! Her books and Mary Stewart’s were the only ones I remember her reading. Even when my grandmother didn’t drive anymore, she would send me to the bookstore every time a Mary Higgins Clark book came out!🤣I’ve never read one but now I’m going to have to!! I love that you are enjoying them!!😍
For sure you are enticing me to read Mary Higgins Clark’s work! And you aren’t crazy for wanting more of her novels. I just read that each of her 51 books was a best seller in the US and various European countries. With numbers like this it’s impressive!! Her suspense novels have sold more than 100 million copies in the US ALONE. Thanks for your critique. Have a great night and goodbye Socks❤❤❤
I really enjoy the Simon Serrailler novels by Susan Hill. I love Susan Hill. She once had a massive clear out of her thousands of books when she was downsizing and she sent me one...a lovely little collection of spooky tales. Anyway... Simon Serrailler...slow burn cosy stories with an odd, very emotionally stiff detective.....I wish the BBC would dramatise them and cast Rupert Penry Jones...he'd be perfect. 😅 I have five left in the series to read and I'm practicing delayed gratification, because I know I'll be sad once I have finished. 😢
Book plans for October Black Mouth by Ronald Malfi, Horrowitz Horror by Anthony Horowitz, Withered Hill by David Barnet and finally the Puffin book of Horror stories.
I don't know when I'll read it, but my copy of Death at the Dress Rehearsal finally arrived today. I'm heading to Tasmania for my nephew's wedding in November, so perhaps a side serving of murder will go well? It means, though, that my plan for this book to travel with the still-not-available-in-Australia Doctor Who in Wonderland so the two books don't get lonely has failed. Boo!
I've been inspired to have a spooky October. I've started off with Stoker's Dracula, which somehow I've never read. What a surprisingly lush treat. I just finished Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Loved it! Still waiting for Doctor Who in Wonderland to be available.
Hey Paul, new subscriber with a random question: What is your reading setup? Looks like maybe you have an angular leather chair that cuts off just below your upper back, with a large throw pillow to support your shoulders. I assume you probably have a footstool or ottoman as well. I'm trying to find a more comfortable set up myself, and I'm just curious if you like yours or have any recommendations.
Hi Paul. I read quite a few Mary Higgins Clarke in the 90s. She along with Danielle Steel, Virgina Andrews, Stephen King, James Herbert and Agatha Christie were my introduction into adult fiction. Lots of fun. I really liked her books. I'm reading Darcy Coates in October. She writes ghost stories and I hope she writes like Clare McNally. Another author from my teen years I adored. Have a lovely day 😊
I read quite a few of her books in the 80s...I loved them - I should read one again and see how I like them now. I will have to look up her list of books and remind myself which I read, but I seem to remember one about a missing child...?
That's how I felt about Elle Griffiths Ruth Galloway series. I was sad when I read the last one..I think I'm going to reread it soon. I'll check out some Mary Higgins Clark. I might have read her in years long past. I just started Louise Penny, Still Life but am not thrilled yet. We shall see.

I've always really enjoyed Mary Higgins Clark! I've read all of them several times and loved them every time!!!! Enjoy!!

Aside from the books I’m reviewing, I’ll probably read the latest Sally Rooney. So not very spooky.

@@mistercritter all of the above! But bear in mind - I’ve been suffering with a bad back lately! So it might not be the best!
@@paulmagrs-g8n good deal, thanks for the quick reply! i look forward to listening/watching/reading your back catalogue from my cat-laden recliner 😁

I used to love reading Mary Higgins Clark books. It’s been years though. (90’s) Also, Colin Dexter books with Det Wexford. Loved them!
I think you mean Inspector Morse. Ruth Rendell created Inspector Wexford.
@@LadyCaroline123 Oh yes you’re absolutely correct. Obviously, I read both Wexford and Morse stories, just mixing up the authors. Loved them all 😁
