For some reason, I absolutely loathe Leonard. I'm not sure if it's because Galecki is such a terrible actor, which in my opinion he is, or Leonard is just so punchable. Possibly both.

My problem with this episode was that Amy ruined the chances of Sheldon accepting the table in another scene. Leonard asked why buying the couch with Sheldon's beloved spot when they didn't have one at first was a good change but buying a dinner table was a bad change. Sheldon was actually stumped and couldn't find anything to say... but then Amy said "you don't need to explain yourself to him" and Sheldon jumped on that.

Autism isn’t gonna change by applying logic. Its a debilitating mental disorder. We like things that are familiar to us because life constantly changes and we are hit by unexpected events that make us go crazy. Thats why we have spots where we like to sit, comfort food and other stuff.

  • @ottokarl5427
    @ottokarl5427 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

I know some people go the "waaah, why did Sheldon get his way again"-route, but please remember: There was literally no chance that this could have gone any other way. Why? Because the table wasn't comparable with the concept of the show. For one, if Amy and Sheldon would have sit there aswell, they would sit with their backs to the audience. There was also no chance for a group-shot. And not to mention that you don't change "the table", which usually is the cornerstorn for most sitcoms. The literal ending-shot of TBBT is them sitting around the couch.

Well, there are of course other considerations. For example, they said there was a good view from the window, but they were all facing away from it. Not to mention, in the Cafeteria and Cheese Cake Factory scenes they show the table from the end so both sides could be seen. In this scene, the table was shot from the side, because "the baby" wouldn't sit at the table. Now there is an unstated reason for this. Sheldon is from Texas. His Mother is a typical hillbilly. As such he most likely grew up in a situation where on Holidays and such the adults sat at a big table and the kids sat wherever was available for meals. Thus he would not sit at the table, because in his mind, _it was the adults table._

I've been saying that for much of the series & that would definitely be the case with real life versions of John Bender from The Breakfast Club, Biff Tannen or really any Tannen from the Back to the Future series (including the movie trilogy & the Telltale game), Johnny Lawrence or any of his friends/gang members (except for maybe Bobby who was a bit more compassionate) from The Karate Kid (1984) or Craig Kilborn's character from The Benchwarmers (I can't remember the character's name) who were all bullies who picked on the nerds (as they're known) & would've without hesitation just decked him once & knocked him to the ground.
Actually, I feel like a lot of the main cast (including Amy & Bernadette primarily of the females) wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes without getting socked in the face at some point in their lives because they were so whiny, bitchy or dramatic.
I'm not a Doctor Who fan, but I said Bernadette could've used a good sock across the mouth in that episode because of how bitchy & manipulative she was.

I’m reading a lot of anger towards Sheldon, and I don’t disagree that he gets his way nearly all the time with everyone unfairly, however I think these moments are being overlooked -
    2:05 - 2:11
    2:35 - 2:47
Ironic that Penny told Leonard not to allow Sheldon to boss him around but then she did the same thing essentially - not exactly bossed him around but Leonard only chose the dining table because Penny liked it and was happy not because he liked it. Double standard hypocrisy from both of them, especially Penny.
The issue is that Leonard has no trouble standing up to Sheldon and complaining about him doing that to him, but Penny does the same thing and even things that Sheldon doesn’t do to Leonard and he gladly gives into and takes it from her because he cares about getting laid by her.
At least Sheldon is consistent with his actions and decisions on purpose and not to get sex out of it from them.
Leonard also only gave up in the end because Penny told him to, yet Sheldon’s the only one who’s blamed for being too controlling when Penny has asserted dominance over Leonard too that he just allows because he gets sex if he enables her.

The Sheldon type can best be pursuaded with order and structure: Dining on the couch is okay as long as there is no dining table. Because dining tables are meant for dining. A couch always will be a makeshift solution because it is not meant for that sort of thing. Holding the plates in your hand increases the risk of making something dirty wheras an the table everything has its place.
They never brought that up. Instead they offered no reason at all and only promoted change based on some impulse - which is exactly how NOT to handle the Sheldon type.

You know, after watching young sheldon and rewatching the big bang theory, it really does help understand Sheldon's character in moments like this where it involved change. Change is a negative experience for him cause of his dad's death. Afterwards he tries his hardest to keep things constant because he can't face the results of the change. So while its annoying when he has moments like these were he is complaining about it, it also is pretty sad cause you know why he is so stubborn about keeping things at a constant.

Although i understand its difficult living with a person on the autism spectrum, it is harder for the person who has the autism. Trust me i know. Life to an autistic person is filled with crippling anxiety and we can’t handle the unknown and situations that are unexpected or out of our control which is why we like to take some control back in the form of having an assigned spot on the couch. Comfort foods, certain comfort tv shows etc… it makes our world feel more calm and less hectic. I’m pretty sure by me saying this y’all will still not get how it is to be autistic but its not easy. We also can develop severe overthinking as a child because we wanna be “prepared” for every single outcome so we can prevent unexpected events from happening and thus not having emotional meltdowns when it doesn’t go as planned. I just found that out now at age 22 and i am working on getting rid of that coping mechanism i developed as a kid. Its anxiety invoking to have severe overthinking because our brain goes to the worst outcomes because the worst outcomes will give the worst emotional meltdowns so we wanna be “prepared” even if the outcomes we overthink can be highly unlikely and far fetched.
