I've often thought that it would be nice not only to put my name in my creations, but the year I made it. Seeing how my skills and style progress through the years would be interesting! People date their quilts and their paintings. I think we should date our clothes.

My grandmother labelled the clothing she designed and sold to children's specialty shops after WWII. She sewed beautifully and drafted her own patterns..remarkable for a woman with limited reading and writing skills. Later she designed and made quilts. She was a true artist.

Hello Evelyn, I am 65 years old, and I've been sewing since was 10. I make the majority of my clothes and do put my label in them. I don't care for the label that I have been using. I want to thank you for your video, I will try the Dutch Label Shop, I sure they will be able to help me. I am so glad I found you, I really enjoy watching.

I love the short film in black and white which introduces your videos, I find it very vintage and elegant, and I think that your label suits it perfectly ! Your choice is perfect for the style of the letters, the colour of the fabric (which is not too white) and the little needle with the thread. This label is a beautiful representation of your style

You are an inspiration! I am not designing my own clothing YET, but I am going to be a new grandma in Sept.2022 and I would like to put custom labels in the clothing that I'm making for my granddaughter. I have purchased labels but none of them seem to be of this quality. My son and daughter-in-law live in Japan so it's even more important to me to let them and my granddaughter know how much love is going into the things I make for her. Thank you for this video and for giving me a way to do this!

I think you are right that you should put your label in your reworks. I have just barely started sewing but have been watching these and taking it all in to help. But even I think it would be cool to eventually put my own label in things. Even what I’m trying to make for myself. Just to be able to show like this wasn’t just some craft tossed together this was a real piece of work put together and I worked hard on it and am proud to say I made that and didn’t just buy it.

Good evening Evelyn, I have been watching you for a while and subscribe to your website. I love your website and enjoy watching your transformations. It has started me to think of doing the same for myself. Unfortunately at the moment I am unable to do anything yet as I am waiting for hip surgery. I have not done any sewing for the past three years so I love to watch others doing machine sewing, hand sewing, shopping for fabrics and changing clothes from what it is to something new. I look forward to the day I will be strong enough to start sewing again and just last night I was looking at labels to put in my clothes and I found the Dutch label company that you were talking about in this video. I liked the look of the labels and was thinking of getting some for my clothes. I will definitely be buying my labels from this company and I will be using your discount code. So thank you for your recommendation. I have not seen all of your videos but enjoy each one I find. Thank you.

Oh, I can relate to the effort and time invested. I have thought about it even for the toiles I've been making at your school. For some reason, without a label a garment looks homemade. Besides, it's good to recognize our good work and it's value.
I liked this subject. It brought to my attention the legal aspects of labels as well. Thanks for sharing it.

I only sew for myself and my family, but I've used labels for years. Like you said, it's like signing your artwork. I still have quite a few from the last time I ordered, but the company I used had limited options. When my current supply runs out, I will definitely check out the Dutch labels. I really liked the customization options. Thanks for sharing this information!

I have been looking for a label company for a while now to print the woven labels I use since the company I purchased my labels from went out of business. I too love the look and feel of women labels. There is nothing like telling someone you made a garment you are wearing and the label gives it that unique touch. Thanks you so much for this!

As a Dutch "girl" I like that you are recommending a cool young Dutch label company. And I love what they have on offer. But personally I really dislike the feeling of labels (anywhere) in all of my clothing🤦🏼‍♀️. The first thing I have always done is: cutting labels out of the all clothing that I buy. (Like you do with those irritating 2 little strings in the neckline of clothing✊🏻). So logically I don't put labels in the clothing that I make or refashion. And sadly 🙁 would never use those beautiful "personalized" labels. Even though I would love to.
    Greetings👋🏻 from The Netherlands🇳🇱

I don't intend to sell any of my refashioned or made from scratch clothes but I was fancying getting some labels. I trust your recommendation so will definitely try these labels. The woven sew in labels are great for labeling children's school clothes - much better than iron on, I remember Mum getting a batch from a UK supplier who did small orders for all my uniform years ago & they all stayed in when none of my friends labels did.

I learned about the Dutch Label Co. through the sewing community and I decided to get a few just for fun to stitch on the outside of my handmade garments. I am a graphic designer but I just went with a simple white font on black on a simple flat label and I love them. They arrived very quickly and look beautiful. I put them on the outside of my garment because I am uber sensitive and can't handle any labels, not matter how lovely, as I will itch. I think they look great on the outside of the garment and the way I position them they are not overly obvious but still there, letting people know I make my own clothes! I do have a business as well and will be designing my own labels so that I can attach them to products I make. I make homewares at this stage but will be making garments from my own designs in the future.

Evelyn Wood I meant to clarify I knit but will sew in the labels. I moved to 1840s historic tourist town and am opening a shop. Am developing some sewn or made items such as bonnets and corsets. Not sure what to do about kits we are hoping to create. I personally am learning to sew vintage on my 1949 Singer 221 Featherweight sewing machine. I have mentioned that before for you to try out.

Yes! I already got my labels from the DLS. So funny: they are Dutch entrepreneurs, working from the US. I am from the Netherlands, actually and the name just hit me. Because I make custom made clothes ánd special dance clothes I even have two different labels: one in Dutch for the ‘normal’ clothes I make and one in Spanish for the flamenco clothes 💃🏻and I am very happy with them. They are starting to run out, so I think I will use your discount code to order more!😊

I am very thankful you made this video. You covered so many issues on this product. I hope to buy two kinds but I am seriously hoping they are not scratchy on the corners as vintage sew in home sewing labels were. Would you care to comment on this?

    • @Evelyn__Wood

I think they are soft, but I don't really sensitive skin. They do send a free sample 😀 so I reccomend ordering one, sew it in something and test it out!!

Thanks SO MUCH for this recommendation. I've been meaning to look into fabric tags on the occasions where they'd come in handy with my hats - my men's and men's style hats have leather sweatbands with my logo stamped in foil, but occasionally a fabric label would come in handy, especially when I dabble in more traditional women's vintage styles.
Is there an expiration for the discount code?

Great vid and informative. Look forward to checking out the dutch label shop. Question; why folded edges at all? I get it for the narrow labels that allow garment to be hung on a hook but why folded edges on say, the larger rectangular ones? Is there a practical/construction reason? Or personal preference? Thanks Evelyn ;)

    • @Evelyn__Wood
      @Evelyn__Wood  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Your right! The edge does look slightly different being folded, as oppose to the ends being woven finished, perhaps slightly smoother on the skin with folds and just more old fashioned looking! But I think easier and more multi purpose for most people with no folds!

Thanks for all the information! I agree with you that tags can add a vintage touch to a garment. I am always checking the tags at thrift stores, and I just resewed the tag into a vintage coat I have. I like the idea of clothing tags and matching swing tags (now know they have a specific name!) but that will be a bit down the road for me. Your tags are lovely and match the intro you used to put on your videos . . .or is that intro only for the refashion videos?
