      You should try asking any federal judge or attorney if they own their home or the car that they drive around in or the jets they fly around in or the coats on their backs. I would even go as far as asking them if they are worried about their children paying an inheritance tax when they die. Then ask them if they use these things. You would probably be surprised.

    It’s time to have professional jury pools. Paid and trained, it’s a job! Lots of people would like that. The system currently is so backwards and overly burdensome. With Covid 19, it’s a danger.

  • @shotpin
    @shotpin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    This system is so stupid. It is time to have professional juries. People should be educated and obtain a certificate and be paid a living wage. These people can still be interviewed and selected from a professional jury pool. They want to be there and have been vetted (pass course and possess basic skills necessary to understand what’s going on). Most jurors I’ve seen look like they were picked up at a mall!

    • @CrossoverGameReviews
      @CrossoverGameReviews 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I always believed that jurors should be volunteers and paid $100 a day to be there, but I never thought of this. This is a better idea. Being a juror SHOULD be a job in of itself. After all, there are no lawyer summons because you need someone who knows the law, just like... you know, anyone involved in a court case. I'll probably mention this when I head on over to "serve" jury duty... in December, which is the latest I could push it.

    • @abes3925

    • @ScammerStudio
      @ScammerStudio ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abes3925 There are literal people out there who are begging to be picked for Jury Duty voluntarily and most courts do not want people like that. It's not bias, there's no "lawyer duty" they dont pick random people off the street to act as a defense in courts. They are trained and educated professionals that are equipped to handle the cases brought to them daily. Yea, it's time to make professional jurors a thing. It would lessen the amount of no shows in court, it would provide more salaried jobs for law school students and graduates. Picking random people off the street who don't really have an opinion about anything isn't a smart way to conduct business.

    Number one you don't currently own a car and cannot get from where you live to the courthouse to serve... So the judge arrest you!! Number 2 you do on a car but it's broke down and you don't have the money to repair it so the judge has you arrested number 3 you simply cannot get child care to take care of your mind or tile so you can drive 25 miles burn gas all for a 20 dollar check so the judge has your arrested. Number 4 you live on a fixed income after paying your bills in financial responsibilities you have no money left and well you do on a car thurston of gas in the tank for you to drive 35 or 40 miles to go to jury duty. Period. You don't have gas so you can't attend. Period. So the judge has your arrested!!! Number 5 your not home for next ended. Of time due to extended vacation or family situation which take you out of state for 2-3 months. And so you never receive your summons or any follow-up letters from the court therefore you do not attend and the fucking judge has you arrested!!! Do you get the point that I'm making now??? It isn't always just that people don't want to go...... Oftentimes it's simply that life gets in the way....... It's simply that many people have situations in their daily life that makes going to jury duty prohibitive! and for the judge to sit there on his high horse and pretend to know every person in the jury and their current situations is beyond ignorant....... I fortunately have never received a jury duty summons... And I do not know how my state or County derives the jury duty list!! I've lived at my residence for a minimum of 15 years. and have never received one yet...

    Maybe more people could show up if courts didn't expect them to potentially spend hundreds of dollars in non-reimbursable taxi cab fares. The Eastern District Federal Court in Detroit MI thinks that $180 round trip per day for an Uber is NOT an extreme financial hardship. It's "safer" for low income persons without transportation to throw the summons in the trash than face jail and fines when they can't get to the courthouse. Without a signed receipt, there is no legal way to prove the potential juror received the summons. Just saying...

    My apologies but the judge, ballif, stenographer, prosecutor, defense attorney all get paid. The entire country needs to understand that payment for services is needed. And who has the right to say that jury duty is more important than work. Civic duty doesn't pay my bills. Do you think all the people involved on the court system would do this for just doing your civic duty? I think not. And why are some jobs exculted from jury service? That to me seems discriminatory. My job is just as important as a firefighter who most likely would be paid for jury duty. My employer does not in conclusion service equals payment.
