Watched the video again; pheasant was definitely dead when brought to the nest. Still feel sorry for it; don't see that many of them and should be protected (tell that to the eagles).
Didn't seem quite dead yet when brought to the nest. Poor mom, not sure egg was fertilized. Beautiful bird, it used to be hunted and eaten by rich people. In my opinion it should be protected. Eagles should go fishing or catch those dastardly squirrels but they're opportunists and don't care what they catch.
The killed bird might also has baby chicks waiting for their mom to bring food for them. Unfortunately her chicks didn't know that their mom now became a food to another chick.

Don't worry, this pheasant looks like it was long dead before coming to the nest. The squealing that you hear is the eaglet getting excited for food.
