    That was insane to watch! Especially with a growd like this...
    I noticed you got two comments from a channel named "Tom" under your video. It's a comment bot for gaining subs on a second channel. You can block it so that it eventually gets banned by TH-cam.

    So the climbers are not meant to know what the previous climbers did? What if someone in the audience tells them?

    • @AlbertOkay
      @AlbertOkay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Technically the audience could tell them, but if someone did tell them what to do in the audience it would be considered cheating and serious action would be taken place probably disqualifying the athlete and getting the audience member kicked out. Usually people don't say anything for integrity

  • @tetuclimbing

    I’m not exactly sure about the history of the Houdini match or ghost match, but a very similar move was done by my coach Shane Puccio when he competed that he called the Houdini swap or something like that. It’s when your sequence is wrong and you take both hands and switch them at the same time. I just thought it was interesting because of the similar names.

    • @AlbertOkay
      @AlbertOkay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whoa! Shane? You climbed at canyons? Nice man... I bet you're really strong!!! It sounds like the same concept, I bet he was referring to the same thing. Awesome that you got to be coached by a beast!

    What I remember from early on when I started watching bouldering regarding doing things your own way is comparing Megan Mascarenas to everyone else, especially Alex Puccio. I was really impressed how often Megan was able to static what others would dyno, or just do it in a more relaxed looking way. I don't know that much, but I'm thinking there's little in the way of dynamic moves in actual rock climbing. Imagine free climbing 1000 feet up and jumping to a hold. Nah.

    • @AlbertOkay
      @AlbertOkay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually just made a video half serious half joking on how to hangboard from your door frame, but if you have a hangboard the best thing is to do repeaters (7 sec on 3 sec off) for 6 reps and 6-9 sets. Using different lock off positions is really helpful since allot of grip strength comes from your lockoff strength too!

    This route was really frustrating to watch, because the speed climbers had no chance, and one of them clearly injured their tendons while attempting the pocket moves.

  • @ivandjordjevic39
    @ivandjordjevic39 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey the Beta Break series is awesome and I'm subscribed, but gotta say what Danny did here seems like a good "How NOT to climb" demonstration. Yes, he's displaying impressive raw strength, but he hasn't done the problem (at least in this video), and frankly, as the author said, I'd be surprised if he hasn't shot his finger strength for the whole of the competition. You can tell just how much more graceful and efficient are the guys doing the Figure 4 beta. Not to mention he's super small and seems light. Overall, IMO it seems like nobody of average build and climbing skill should ever be attempting an overhanging mono houdini swap, and it's just common sense.
