It would seem this book was well-known among 1st century Jews, as Our Lord taught from it, by taking the negative rule in chapter 4 and turning it to a positive one 'do to others as you would like them to do do to you'.

5 scrolls or fragments of Tobit were found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Four Aramaic versions and one Hebrew. So it was definitely in circulation in the 1st Century AD. Golden Rule also derived from Leviticus 19:18. I just re-read Tobit when it came up in the daily readings lately. Such an endearing book. The image of Tobias unwittingly walking down the road with an Archangel with a little dog tagging along is a delightful one. Very powerful book that is in many ways a summary of Salvation History if you think of Tobias as a type of Christ overthrowing the devil and taking up his bride, the Church.

hello Father, I would like to believe that the mass celebrates the more of the life of our Jesus. Then why is the mass so sad even with a choir and songs? Some call it solemn as an excuse. Is it because we see in front of us a crucified Jesus for 2000 years despite us claiming that he has risen?
Another question is during the gospel, where the Word is read and then tossed away to make way for the sermon which often are pep talk . Some say many priests are afraid of answering more questions about the literal gospel.

I feel mass is rich and healing. There are many beautiful powerful Catholic hymns. Perhaps you should try a different Catholic church?

Marcus, perhaps my homily from yesterday may help you to understand the Mass better in the context of salvation history? th-cam.com/video/AbqBdotNaTY/w-d-xo.html
