  • In this video Gift and I head to Bangkok, where we will spend a few nights while visiting Gift’s mom, who was just recently hospitalized for a heart condition. While in Bangkok, we realized just how fortunate we are that we no longer live there. Between the population, traffic and pollution, we promise never to live there again. After having dinner and receiving our bill, we realize that the waiter forgot to charge us for Gift’s meal: The staff was surprised how honest we were, when we told them that they didn’t charge us enough.

    The hotel room is a lot bigger with a queen bed instead of two twin beds.
    I loved hearing Gifts giggle about crossing the street. Tell the family they are in our thoughts and prayers. Gift’s family is one of the sweetest people ever. We love you all.

    Some years back as I was going through a career transition, I took a month off and stayed with some friends in London. Loved it. Went sightseeing, travelled every day, making sure to see as much as I could. A few years later, and I was now working in London, commuting in 5 days a week via train and underground, each way, door to door, it was about 2 hours. Being in London every day, dealing with travel issues, rail strikes, and so on, I did this for about a year and a half, and the novelty wore off, big time. I wouldn't mind visiting every once in a while, but to live there full time, definitely not.

  • @nimblemonkey
    @nimblemonkey 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    But you were. choosing to travel at the ABSOLUTE worst time of day, Joe. In my experience, it's worth planning to leave early to avoid rush hour and getting to your destination a bit early rather than putting yourself through the headache of traveling with everyone who HAS to travel at that time. It's always nice to find a coffee shop or bistro up the street from your destination where you can chill for an hour or two, then walking from there. That said, Bangkok is definitely way more crowded this year than last. 😅 #SukhumvitSoi11Warrior 🤣

    Hello Gift and Joe, I only like the outskirts of Bangkok and the wonderful scenery and temples! The traffic is too much for me, I am glad for Gifts' mom, and I hope she gets out of the hospital soon, I have been asking Buddha for healing for her and my girls' mom who fell down in Khon Kaen and broke her shoulder, she is over the flu that's been going around now but has to see the doctor again on 19/12. I was hoping to see Gifts kitty kitty! I hope it is doing well. I look forward to an update on Gifts mom and I hope you two are doing great! I love Cafe Amazon more than Starbucks, I know Gift loves Starbucks, but I think the coffee is better at Amazon.

    The $65,000 baht gross pay or net income? How does veterans benefits count towards that total?

      The 65,000 baht or more a month being transferred from abroad into a Thai bank account, or 800,000 in a Thai bank account is the requirement to maintain the retirement visa (extension of stay). Veterans benefits, pensions and/or Social Security has nothing to do with the requirement.

      Already done! In saying this, I don’t think the new tax will apply to my federal pension or Social Security.

      @thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774 hope your right. But the rule changes mean they can for sure whether or not they come after that income , we won't know till 2025 when next year's tax bills will be due.

    Thai prices have always been - what you see is what you pay. It's one more American nonsense to add tax and service on top of advertised prices. Keep that at home.

      I've lived here many a year now and married with 3 daughters and can assure you 9 out of 10 Thais have absolutely no idea as to the true meaning of Christmas. The big corporations have wrangled their way in and promoted it as a way to get the kids to pester their mom's and dad's to get them spend their hard earned money on presents from Father Christmas.

      It’s a beautiful thing to see Thailand celebrating Christmas to a certain extent. IMO, the true meaning of Christmas is slowly fading away in the west.
