Hey Stefan, I have lived in both the US and Sweden, and I love the US. But I find that the quality of life here in Sweden is higher with all the benefits you get even though we pay higher taxes here. What I'm saying is I'm willing to pay higher taxes in return for the social and medical security I get here.
I find that too. In America I was always trying to figure out ways to have a side hustle and run a business or something on the side to have a decent life as a teacher, but here in Sweden I feel like I don't have to worry about that quite as much.
chiuansheng Lol its the same. If you make above a certain amount of money, you need to pay MUCH more in taxes, in both countries, but because the overall taxes are higher in sweden, it sometimes fucking sucks to make more money if you get punished for it
Some countries you live to work, in others you work to live. I'll rather have less money to spend on stuff than having to work my ass off to satisfy my material desires. America is great in many things but for the average Joe I think Sweden is better. To bad swedes in general are too naive and let other people use their generous system. I'm a foreigner my self but I feel that Swedish state do not pressure foreigner to learn language and adapt to the society. They are afraid being called racist. I can see great difference between the migration that went on during the 80s and 90s vs today. People before were thankful for having the chance to live in this country.
I’m from Norrköping and have lived in the UK for the past 11 years. I keep showing my husband your videos to convince him we should move. It’s a big step for him but I think we’re almost there.
I'm from Sweden and i have lived here my whole life! I really like your videos about Sweden because i like to hear what people from other countries think about Sweden! One and a half year ago were i and my family in Texas and i think some things were very strange there! 1. Random people came and talked to us! Like when we were waiting for a train, a man we didn't knew came and started talking with us like if we already knew each other! On restaurants, in shops, on trainststions and everywhere! 2. It was HOT! I were there in the end of October and the beginning of November. It was between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius (77 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit). I thought: "Okay! It's November and the only things i wear are a T-shirt and a skirt". It's very cold in Sweden in November, like 0 to 5 degrees Celsius (32 to 41 Fahrenheit) so i thought it was geat with a little extra summer! 3. Guns and weapons! Normal people own weapons and sometimes uses them! I think that is scary and very odd. One of the first things i saw in USA was a sign with holes in because someone had shooten on it. 4. People are so religious! They actually beleve in God! (I don't have any problems with that, the can beleve in God how much they want to) but in Sweden, not so many beleves that much. We lived with my cousins, my uncle, my cousins step-mother and step, sisters and they prayed before we ate. 5. Cars, cars and only cars! People drive their cars everywhere! We couldn't even take the tram without drive the car to the station! The roads are huge! (especially in Houston). But it was cool in some ways to go so fast! That was the things i thought was the strangest! There is of course a lot more, but i dont think enyone want to reas this long comment!
Hi! I didn't actually know that Americans liked our style so much, ( I'm Swedish) like I'm just so used to everything looking that special Scandinavian way, so I haven't thought about how it actually looks in other countries!! Really fun video!💓
I really like your videos, it’s interesting to hear what a person that is not from Sweden think about Sweden (I’m Swedish) because there is stuff I actually haven’t noticed even though I’ve lived in Sweden my entire life! And I really like it! Keep up with your videos! And hope you enjoy Sweden, because it’s the best country in the world!😂😉👍🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Your videos is amazing as always. Great facts and content. But have you ever thought of doing a vlogg? That would be amazing to see how you are doing in general in Sweden . 💪🇸🇪
Glad you like the videos! I have thought about doing a vlog but I want to make sure if I release stuff like that it is as entertaining as possible. We'll see what the future holds :)
It was quite funny that you mentioned that US food has more sugar and stuff, bc my friend just talked about that right before I watched this video 😆 He said that when he was in Florida, the average food portion was quite large and high in both fat and sugar, and that he understands why many Americans are obese.
I want a supermarket video. How to navigate, differences with US, tips, candy selection. Thanks. (I visited 1 supermarket during my short 2 day trip to SE and it was intimidating)
Has any state in the U.S actually tried to build a well functioning train network? Also it was fun to hear. Supriced you didnt mention all the old stuff. I guess it's maby going away more and more. Nice to hear that swedish people actually try to work hard too.
Being from Sweden but living in the USA i have experience of life in both countries and i have to say i really enjoy your videos in general and youre pretty much spot on. Im originally from Linkoping and with family in Norrkoping so iv'e spent much time there.
Very nice channel! I enjoy to see how different two countries can be. The funny part is that one county must be better than another. It’s fun to see the good things and the bad things between these beautiful states ❤️🇸🇪🇺🇸
Never been to the north of Sweden?! Try visiting this time of the year, or around Easter when there's till tons of snow but sunny warm with a clear sky all day👏
I thank you for these videos. I would love to travel to Sweden. Through this pandemic my 11-year-old daughter and I are learning Swedish and are enjoying it immensely.
Well seeing that spårvagn, i pieced everything together. Why the places you have show is so familiar. It's a bit scary yet cool. I hope you enjoy living here.
My take on the work/free time subject: It's not because you work double the time, you'll get double the result. You tend to be sharper if you take the time to rest. If you concider burn-outs, frustratuion, underpayed personell, etc people who do less work hours can get more work done.
I recently met a girl from Sweden, she was beautiful, kind, she cared about people, and her eyes.. Never met someone that kind. I just loved talking with her about her country (I was asking the questions). I am from Polynesia, but live in France, and I always felt really off in this country. Everything about my values don't match with the actual mentality that you have in France. And the more I learn about the Swedish culture and the more I "fall in love" with it, because every time I said "we should be more like this in France", the Swedish seems to be already doing it. I just discovered your videos, and THANK YOU so much for making them and sharing your amazing experience. This must have been a beautiful experience. If it was possible to study Chiropractic in Sweden I would have take my backpack and go, I just want to discover this amazing country and maybe meet amazing people. Thank you for the video, have a wonderful day =)
We can compare the “Swish”with the “Vips”we have here in Norway. The same functions, it is also an app that almost everyone has on mobile. It’s very good👍
The gest thing with SWISH is, when you have installed it on your cellphone and got it to work all you need is a cellphone number. For example if you buy something from me all you need is my cellphone number and SWISH the money and i have the money in by bank account in seconds.
We have just as good public transport here in the north, only it's mostly buses since the cities are smaller. But they take you everywhere you need to go and they go really frequently :) Great video!
I really think your concepts are really good. I also live in Sweden and it's really nice to hear what you think of this country, keep going with what you do and I hope your channel will grow because you deserves that. It would be very fun if you maybe could do a apartment tour or maybe show a day when you go to work
You should visit northern Sweden! At the summer the sun never goes down, "midnattsol" at the winter it's usually really cold, sun is up like 4 hours a day and alot of snow 😁 anything south of "Luleå" is not really northern Sweden ;)
You mentioned that you haven't been in the more northern parts of Sweden. I higly suggest you to go visit Tree hotel in the winter, to see the Aurora Borealis and live in one of the amazing treehouses/rooms they offer. It's a bit pricy but I think it'll be worth it for the experience! It's also in my home town. PS great videos! Ds.
Stefan! Great, educational videos. Please consider making a video "5 ways Sweden could be more like the US". Keep up your good work, it's very appreciated :)
I’m really surprised about the sugar content and swish! Everything else is more or less topical Sweden 😉 (especially the fika) I’m interested in knowing your thoughts more on the differences of Swedes and Americans😅 you spoke briefly about this but it would be nice to hear one of your lists on this topic ! And I would totally love if you did one for our Swedish holidays!
One thing I like more about america is that the supply of all kinds products is much larger and covers a wider range. Here in Sweden I have to order many things online, not seldom from abroad, since they're not sold in any store.
That is also because we are not to many people here. Demand is far less than in US. Even in Belgrade Serbia where I spend some times you have IT stores in malls that are open from 06:00 to 00:00 with far more products than in Elgiganten, Netonnet stores. And they have very low income compared to us, but they are also 1 500 000 million people just in one city. So demand does much.
hej Stefan! i lived in the countryside here in skåne and now kn malmö , transportation is both great.Like u did, i had a car in Manila but here I can just relax sitting in the trains or busses anywhere I need to go.. 😘😘😘# älskar SE
Great video! Pretty interesting to hear an American talk about things we in Sweden take for granted. Something I thought was better when I’ve been to the US, is that the menus at restaurants like In n Out etc. tell how many calories each dish contains. Another pretty odd thing I noticed in the US was that there was sanitary wipes at Walmart to wipe your shopping cart with to get rid of germs, I think that was great! These two thing are pretty small and almost not noticeable but small things make a difference too :)
I never even thought about those things, but that's so true! I miss being able to see how many calories are in everything at restaurants, but that is also relatively new in the US.
I just found your channel, and this is sort of an unrelated question... but anyway, if you teach in a grundskola, do you speak English or Swedish in your classes? Just curious :)
Well I first worked at an international school and spoke mainly English, but now I work at a Swedish school and speak primarily Swedish but can use English if I have too because my students are grades 7 & 9.
Oh, and I just wanna say that being able to take long paternity leaves that are paid and getting more vacation is because we pay more in tax. People alway seem to believe that having high tax is something negative, like the government is stealing money from you, but they are actually using it for the benefit of the people (if sensible people are in charge that is).
I love seeing comments like this. I'm glad you appreciate some of the cinematic shots :) and I couldn't agree more about the taxes, people in Sweden get a lot for what they pay for!
About your first point about public transportation, it differs alot depending on where you live in Sweden. In Gävleborgs Län for example, where i live, the trains that are going up the coast are almost garanteed to break down during the winter, and cause total chaos throughout the rest of the day. That's mainly because the people in charge are too cheap to buy locomotives actually suited for winter use. But the bus lines are in turn very good, though you can rarely choose to travel with a bus insteaf of a train, because the bus lines simply don't cover the same areas as the trains.
Hi! Interesting to hear this perspective from an American! I’m moving from Sweden to the US(Chicago) this summer and will be staying as long as it doesn’t suck. :-) One thing I’m looking forward to is to meet and talk to people - even strangers because it’s freaking impossible to make friends here in Sweden unless you’re drunk or work together. How are you adapting to the reserved Swedish society?
I agree with you. Though I love the huge beds here in the US. I love that the US doctors have made a huge effort to actually listen to me and believe me, and the dental care has been way better here in MN. The Swedish doctors did not listen to me, did not make an effort, basically told me to shut up and get out and it's the experience my friends with chronic health issues agree with. I think försäkringskassan does a lot of good but personally I can not stand dealing with them. I myself and many friends have been so screwed over by FK. Pretty much if you are sick or poor you only get the help "get a job then." And you need so much energy to fight for "I can't". My favorite thing about US is the freedom in being proud of yourself, my favorite thing about Sweden is the stunning landscape everywhere! I hope you someday get to see the north as well as Skåne or Blekinge or Dalarna.. well, anywhere! It is so pretty it can be surreal. What people think when they hear Montana is what I feel about every piece of Sweden.
I think we (and pretty much the rest of the world) do better then the US in using the metric system, I really wish they would switch over to it. Also think that it's better that the tax (and "tip") is included in the price. I much rather look at a price for something, have it say $15 and then pay $15 then to have it say $10 and still have to pay $15 after tax (and tips)
I've never been outside of the US, but here it feels like the mentality is to work until you have one foot in the grave. Or work yourself until, or even if, you're injured or crippled. And the food thing in America, you nailed it!
Probably easier to have a great public transportation system when everything is closer together. The US is a vast country with different kinds of terrain. Plus most European countries are more urbanized in terms of their population while in the US you have the large cities but then also the sprawling metropolitan areas outside of those cities and then more rural areas beyond the suburbs.
Oh yeah. Does your girlfriend (or other camera loving Swedish friend) like Turkish Pebber, Jungelvral or other licorice candy? Make a video of her casually eating that while you try to keep up! 😉
A awhile ago my local store had some imported American candy, tried a Hershey's Bar and it was quite a shock for someone used to Marabou, it tasted like a sugar-cube.
ikr? I've always heard that Hersheys bars are amazing, but when i finally tasted one it was horrible. Didn't taste like chocolate at all. Just pure suger.
it's not really about developing apps in Swish case, it's the fact that all Swedish banks came together and developed it, and - as I understand - they also pay the cost of using it (for private individuals). Since everyone in Sweden has bank-id issued by a Swedish bank, it is very easy to set Swish up and use, and it does not cost anything to user. So in order it could be used in USA and other countries as efficiently, you would probably need for all banks to agree and standardize the authentication procedures and take on the cost, so consumer can use it cost free. Then it could get really popular.
Hi, I am a proud Swede who is currently living in the US. And there is many things Sweden is better at, but also a lot of things where America wins. I love living here and I am literally living in Paradise (really, I live in Florida so😉). For example, I feel like America have more fun things to do overall. Much more restaurants, and fun places to go to. I’d still choose Sweden though, but it might be because I am truly a Swede.
The sugar content observation was interesting. I have just thought that the USA has much larger portions with more sugary and fatty foods in general. I had not thought that some foods like yoghurts etc. would also have higher sugar content in the USA.
We are probably quite extreme in some respects here in the Nordic countries (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inglehart%E2%80%93Welzel_cultural_map_of_the_world), and it shows time to time. But nothing is right or wrong regarding culture it is just different, and I found it interesting to hear about your experiences.
I lived in CT with an American family for a year. And I would definitely say that compared to swedes, American people are much better at celebrating their traditions and holidays. I loved thanksgiving and even the super bowl party we had. I also like how warm and welcoming most people is even though the "how are you" kind of got old after a while. Really enjoyed my year in the US and I got to travel to fifteen states. What are peoples assumptions and expectations When you say that you are from america? A woman I met in the states used to travel europe after college and they Said to people that they were from Canada because the view of americans were not very good at the time. When I traveled around in the states people thought I was from Switzerland When I said Sweden, people expected me to be blonde and kind of thought that all we do is listening to ABBA while eating Swedish Fish (which I saw, btw, for the first time in London. Not very swedish) on our way to Ikea. Haha.
Sadly in the northern part of Sweden we don't have as good community buses and trains as in the cities in the southern part. We are lucky if the buses comes once every hour, so you have to plan your day and travels according to the bus time table. That's why we up here in the north more often take the car, we can't live without a car cos the time for travelling by bus takes at least twice as long time than that of going by car. The distances are greater and we are more spread out.
Having lived in both Sweden and the US (im a Swede), on thing that greatly annoyed me in the US was how expensive internet is and the fixation on data caps. In Sweden right now I pay about 200kr which is about 24 USD for 250/100 mbit with no data caps. In the US one would pay atleast 70-80 usd for that
So, as a teacher in Sweden (I dont know your age group) but could you agree that the realtion between Students and teachers can be very relaxed and you become sort of friends? I always felt like this growing up in Sweden, how close i got to my techers, they became buddies :D
That's very true, in the US it's a little different for example students always call teachers by their last names (i.e. 'Mr. Thyron' instead of Stefan)
The public transportation is pretty crappy here in sweden as well. Try to take a bus or a train for that matter between any small towns here in sweden and you will see that it is flawed. They just don't recognise this in the big cities cause they live in their own bubbles of comfort. Northern of sweden is the worst i believe, with the closest neighbour about 100km away (this is kind of a joke but still). I grew up out on the countryside, and i cant imagine a life without my car. That is my ONLY mode of decent transportation, only problem is the horrific fuel-prices. Love your content *thumbsup*.
Swedish workers are very popular because they only complain that the material is not on time. The weather doesn't matter 50 degrees cold or 50 degrees hot, we do the job. Even if it is monsoon rain or hurricane we never complain. I myself have work in these conditions. Previously, they were restrictions, but the companies removed this. "Time is money".
Yes, public transportation is superior in most European countries. It's sad for a country that has been known for using trains everywhere during the industrial revolution, to be so far behind.Sugar is everywhere in the US, it's hard to find something that is not with added sugar. Worst of all it's high fructose corn syrup that's in everything.
Trains are widely used in the Northeast US, especially in NYC. US, as a country, is massive and commuter rail isn't economically viable in most areas of the country.
You may have inspired me to appreciate Sweden more. I live in Norrköping Sweden and are planning to move to Japan, I've already started studying Japanese. Quick question. Are you interested in geek stuff like Magic The Gathering or other type of activities like it? Look up Iuvo Gaming. Really friendly people there ;)
I think we all agree that christmas in the US would be greatly improved if they had julmust instead of coca cola..
I skeet On your wife fuck off dude, nobody likes you

Snorpan W so true
I found it funny that even with our lower sugar contents we still complain about added sugar in our food here in Sweden.
Great videos! As a teacher-student I found the diffrence between schools here and the U.S really interesting!
That's awesome, I am glad you like the videos! :)

Leo Ea sjukt lågt han borde ha 1million
In northern sweden we have a shit ton of busses
Ds.
Great vids. It is always fun to hear what people think about sweden. Its nice to get some perspective.
I hope you and your gf like it here.
Stefan! Great, educational videos. Please consider making a video "5 ways Sweden could be more like the US". Keep up your good work, it's very appreciated :)
I’m really surprised about the sugar content and swish! Everything else is more or less topical Sweden 😉 (especially the fika)
I’m interested in knowing your thoughts more on the differences of Swedes and Americans😅 you spoke briefly about this but it would be nice to hear one of your lists on this topic !
And I would totally love if you did one for our Swedish holidays!
One thing I like more about america is that the supply of all kinds products is much larger and covers a wider range. Here in Sweden I have to order many things online, not seldom from abroad, since they're not sold in any store.
That is very true, I have noticed that too!
CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT THE CINEMATOGRAPHY IN THE BEGINNING HOW DID YOU DO THAT?????
Oh, and I just wanna say that being able to take long paternity leaves that are paid and getting more vacation is because we pay more in tax. People alway seem to believe that having high tax is something negative, like the government is stealing money from you, but they are actually using it for the benefit of the people (if sensible people are in charge that is).
I love seeing comments like this. I'm glad you appreciate some of the cinematic shots :) and I couldn't agree more about the taxes, people in Sweden get a lot for what they pay for!
Really good vid man
About your first point about public transportation, it differs alot depending on where you live in Sweden.
One thing I’m looking forward to is to meet and talk to people - even strangers because it’s freaking impossible to make friends here in Sweden unless you’re drunk or work together.
Skulle du kunna göra en video om ”incidenter” som hänt i Sverige. Som det där i mataffären och swish osv...
Those are two very valid points Anton. I tend to agree with both
Great video. You sir, just got another subscriber.
Haha I’m actually from Norrköping, lived there my whole life up til about 2 years ago, now I’m living in North Carolina with my husband.
Det är ju bland annat för att vi skall kunna åka kollektivtrafik som vi har så höga skatter.
Can you test swedish candy
Ja snälla gör det
Oh yeah. Does your girlfriend (or other camera loving Swedish friend) like Turkish Pebber, Jungelvral or other licorice candy? Make a video of her casually eating that while you try to keep up! 😉
you mean snus? yes pls do.
Kul att du tycker om Sverige!!
Yay a new video!! :D
Move to Norrbotten. Life's is better here and it's more cozy up here. U can at least take a weekend up here
Miki Seius No the winter is great. Except the dark......
Västerbotten ftw
it's not really about developing apps in Swish case, it's the fact that all Swedish banks came together and developed it, and - as I understand - they also pay the cost of using it (for private individuals).
Can you talk about the Driving license and all that? You know Moped and Epa/A-Traktor. We get driving license to cars when we’re 18
In Norway the App is called Vipps! 😊
Good points sir!☺️
I think something you could do is start an organization try's make America more like Sweden in some ways.
Locate a Lidl store and try the Milbona greek youghurt, my favorite is the pineapple, orange and mandarine ♥
Can you make a video where you explain why you moved to sweden?
You are one step ahead of me, that's actually the plan for my next video! :)
Stefan Thyron Okay! This will probably be interesting!
Girl
Great video!
bra intro!
Next winter, check out the ice hotel. ice hotel + night with aurora = win.
Really fun that a american that has moved too Sweden apreciates the same things about Sweden I have enjoyed my whole life.
Haha.
I live in a small village called Näshulta. Its realy beutiful here😀
You actually look really swedish. Thank you for your videos.
Can You test swedish good like "Kalles kaviar"? Sorry for bad english but I hope That You understand me :)
In the US one would pay atleast 70-80 usd for that
You are growing very fast
I live in Linköping and this is probably the first time I know of that someone not from sweden knows about it
So, as a teacher in Sweden (I dont know your age group) but could you agree that the realtion between Students and teachers can be very relaxed and you become sort of friends? I always felt like this growing up in Sweden, how close i got to my techers, they became buddies :D
That's very true, in the US it's a little different for example students always call teachers by their last names (i.e. 'Mr. Thyron' instead of Stefan)
From my experience the public transportation is very different in the north of sweden
I am from America and this makes me so jealous, I have always wanted to go to Sweden. I am only 15 so it seems pretty impossible.
That can happen. Meet someone or travel abroad.
I am an american and your videos inspire me to want to visit sweden
I apprichiate your Swedish videos Because I am Swedish 🇸🇪❤
US have cash out and Venmo too now, it’s super easy to send money to one another too.
I want to Sweden and US be very good friends because i am from Sweden and i love US
You are the best
You may have inspired me to appreciate Sweden more. I live in Norrköping Sweden and are planning to move to Japan, I've already started studying Japanese. Quick question. Are you interested in geek stuff like Magic The Gathering or other type of activities like it? Look up Iuvo Gaming. Really friendly people there ;)
Nice vid Stefan! Hur går det med svenskan? :D
