I've found parking garages up and down to be a great way to practice short shifts, braking, and low speed maneuvers in a city setting. This guy is awesome. All riders should watch this
Damn. Always thought trail brake up to the apex. So Thats why my rear always feels slippery mid corner. Good tip. Got that figured out. Now i can focus on proper smooth throttle input
The life splits into two: before you implement a tail braking and it feels like fear and roulette with guessing entrance speed, and after learned trail braking, OMG! I watched so many vids on trail braking but only now started to implement because it was previously so scary to approach corner faster, the inside screams: Panic!!😁 Brilliant video
I appreciate the simple explanation of the technique. Many dynamics at work throwing a machine into a corner with loads changing front to rear and picking the correct line and timing the down shifts, off brake and on gas. Fun stuff that can be applied to larger heavy touring machines. Thanks.
I think this works if you know the curve or you have sight of the road completely or on a track. Otherwise, how do you know when to finish trail braking (0% brake) and give gas, if you don't see the exit? For regular road riding, I support the advice from Motojitsu and/or Mcrider...
At 399 a day ill take this valuable information any day as if it was meant to be video but respect for us riders wanting to learn and ride safe thanks guys
This man gives good advise, i actually thought i had to brake till the apex, when i try to push to my limit is what i ussually do. but that little bit of gas just to get the bike stable throught the apex makes sense, il try when the weather gets better
this is why i keep telling people to start with a smaller engine bike, it teaches you brake and throttle control to make you use it to its full potential. front brakes through turns are where people make the most mistakes, and mistakes turns into accidents
Not sure I necessarily agree. With a smaller bike you have more hand movement for the same speed as a bigger bike. I use a quick throttle on my litre sports bike and need to be super controlled coming out of slow corners. I think very low speed obstacle courses are probably best for teaching fine hand control.
Most guys can't ride for shit, its sad especially when it comes to sport bikes since they are so much fun if even ridden somewhat kinda correctly but most people end up with so little lean angle its laughable.
I naturally trail brake, but it does kinda feel sketchy cause I don't want to lowside... My main concern is clutch control and shifting, knowing what gear I'm in or should be in, and rev matching to the appropriate forces..

Agreed, I couldn't watch this past 3 minute mark. I'm looking to go to a track school this year but for $400 I don't want the instructor asking questions all the time. If I've paid a lot of money for a day's instruction, that's what I want. Instruction. I don't care what the rest of the class think, just straight out give me the info. The sooner I learn it the sooner I can start committing it to memory.
Good instructor. There must be a nice looking women in the class. That would explain why grown men are acting like high school boys instead of taking this course seriously.

Beginners should be taught had a trail brake right away. There’s nothing unsafe about it. They should just get used to slowing down very early and being lighter longer on the brakes.
Listen closely. Trail braking is for speed in curves. Traditional riding is not for going through curves as fast as you can. Thus, for "safety" purposes brake and down shift before the curve and then follow your line through the curve at a speed that does not require this technique.
But neither seem optimal. They way he explains it here makes the most sense. How can you still be braking after the apex and still get the best speed down the straight?
@@DodgyBrothersEngineering because you are not using the brake lever as "brakes" you are using it to adjust direction for a strong exit to the corner. It took a while to figure out what Ken Hill was alluding to, but after racing a couple years it really started hitting home. Some corners to get the maximum exit, you trail to or past the "apex" on the corner (entry corners) to get the bike in the right position to launch out of, on an exit corner you typically accelerate past the apex. As soon as you see the brake lever as an adjustment tool after you lean over, you use it as a tool to put the bike where you want it....specifically in a highly dynamic situation like racing. It also trains you to be present in the ride without a lot of neutral throttle...which means seconds on a lap if you are doing too much of it.
I see people complaining about $400. bucks lets say you go to a track day for $200 bucks that two track days right? But if you don't have good skills then you are just riding around making the same mistakes that you've been making for who knows how long and you think this is great and people are going by you almost sucking the paint off your bike if you continue to ride like this and think if they can go that fast so can I my bike is better then his if you don't know how to ride fast and you try and go fast your going to crash.This is a school they are riding with you one on one telling you what your doing wrong showing you how to go fast setting up your suspension $400 buck of good teaching is well worth $400 in bike parts hell you just drop your bike standing still and you can cause $400 dollars in damage $400 bucks is a bargain.
GIT-FO i was told to commit before going into turns. Speed is great but not when your limited space. In my mind, the solid lines on the roads are like walls i can't cross over.
GIT-FO dangerous of course, that's why i ALWAYS ride with a clear mind. I have a personal check list that I must check off before taking my bike out. If I can't check them all off I don't go out, i know I'll make a mistake somewhere along the way.

iTxip that little bit of gas increases chassis rigidity, essentially stiffening the bike up and not leaving it feeling "floppy". How'd you find it?

How do you put some design on your suits? Are those patches? Or stickers?
It you are good at laws of physics you can understand the laws applying on your bike during breaking or Turning etc

LightGesture it is sketchy. I nearly never trail brake! Throttle control is by far the most important factor in cornering imo

You've misinterpreted Simon. He says you can maximise lean angle and change of direction with zero throttle.
So when trail braking we lean into turn and we give back brake . So we step on back brake , got it 👌

I have a problem with braking. I love to just glide on by smoothly.
