I think you nailed that the reason why old shows are blowing up is because new shows just suck. Even when they're good, we only get, like, 8 episodes every 2-3 years. It doesn't let you connect with the characters in the same way as older shows that produced 24 episodes per year for like 5-10 years, even when they're written better or have higher production values. Like, who are you going to get more invested in, Dr. House (who you followed for nearly 200 episodes) or Loki (who between 2 seasons had 12 episodes total)?
As someone who was addicted to this show back when it was still airing on tv, its really great to see Dexter getting so much love. Really a great and unique show.
This video perfectly shows the power association marketing has. I have always kept my eye on this form of promotion since it works so effectively without having to spend any money whatsoever.
dexter is one part police procedural, one part thriller, one part family drama and one part dark comedy, it’s essentially a best hits reel of the golden age of tv, whether or not you think it always worked, it was at the very least supremely watchable
Another big reason was the show (You) on netflix. Because its similar to Dexter and when it was trending ppl started to compare it with Dexter and it blew up.
I guess the TVD (The Vampire Diaries) will face similar stuff in the future. I think shows from that universe has the biggest potential to be trending on tiktok. We already had a TVD boom during the COVID. Even Nina said that she met like hundreds of people in a few weeks that came to her and said "omg, I just watched TVD for the first time and that was insane". BTW, since you are 20 years old, I recommend watching TVD and The Originals. You are still almost teen so you will kinda like those love stories and all that shit in TVD...and the same time you are grown enough to understand how insane The Originals is (which is by far the best series ever created if we count only those "no main-stream productions"). I just recommend that. Especially for The Originals. Even tho I am too old to enjoy TVD as I enjoyed it those 6-8 years ago, I would definitely watch it once again today just to be able to understand The Originals more.
I first saw Dexter on Netflix a long time ago. To give you some perspective, I used to order the Blue Rays from Netflix when they used to send the discs to you via mail.
Everybody is binge watching throwback tv or just hidden show gems that Netflix and prime has gifted to us. Now they’re getting popular on social media and the algorithm has reached a new audience and gravitate then torwards the show.
The fans have finally forgiven the writers for the way Season 8 ended, and also Harrison for everything he did in NEW BLOOD. I think most of the fans like the recasting inside ORIGINAL SIN, and they had about 6 months of the original series being on NETFLIX again so they could get caught up. The older fans LIKE the idea of DEXTER being "resurrected" grandly.
Here is an interview with James Remar... he has a few insights into Harry that are mini-spoilers for both the original series and Original Sin! th-cam.com/video/uu2g2eWCvTg/w-d-xo.html
DNA testing began to be reliable and available in the 1990s but it was expensive and difficult to do prior to this side of the millennium! Harry in the 1970s knew things about Dexter's "origin" that maybe had him not so involved in Brian's life. Also... name game... the actor who was Jack Webb's partner in DRAGNET is Henry "Harry" Morgan, and he goes onto M*A*S*H in the 1970s. This adds a further layer to the idea that Harry could have been in the Korean War. as a young man. Toss in the complicated revelation that maybe Harry is not a total stranger to both Brian and Dexter, that suggests the idea in Harry's mind that he has just adopted Deb's half brother into the family unit... the DNA test is a total shock that rocks Dexter's life but not Brian's!!!! "Biney" had figured out WHO his father was, earlier. Dexter was told things by Harry.
JAMES REMAR just did an interview on FINAL CUT with Jamie Chung that really looks at the way things went down in the 1970s. I tried to include a link to it, but if you TH-cam or Google it, it should pop up in the search engine. FINAL CUT is the after*show, and James Remar is the special guest for Episode 4 of Original sin! :)
I've watched Dexter many years ago, and it has always been my favorite show, so imagine how happy i got when it became popular again. Michael C. Hall just plays so well, and damn he is a good actor. so i began watching it again lol.
For a first video, this is pretty damn good! Subscribed! Dexter was one of the first shows I ever watched and got invested emotionally, it's crazy because on concept itself sounds morbid to like a serial killer, no matter if it's good or bad people, but how Dexter blends so perfectly in society, his innner thoughts, how he feels broken inside, yet shows he can be a lovable and cheerful person outside, oh and all the characters too, man doakes gave me the creeps at season 1, masuka's just fucking hillarioes, and Deb oh she's so cute with his brother even though she's foster she plays the sister role perfectly even joking toghether aww, man, I'm so glad one of my favourite shows are becoming soo popular again, 18 years later!
"A lot of the shows now kinda suck." -MAINLY THIS. If newer gens had their own awesome shows, they wouldn't have to rehash and rehype up old shows. But, because the writing on 99% of shows made now is garbage, they only have the same shows we grew up with to really enjoy because everyone can recognize how far downhill Hollywood productions have gone. Look at the writing on House MD for example, and compare it to ANY daytime television drama nowadays, and you realize the Grand Canyon sized gap in quality.
I know Prison Break is up there but personally for me only Season 1 was peak. Dexter definetly had more peak seasons. One big problem are the endings though. Both the original series and New Blood had really shitty endings. I guess that's why poor Dex can't get rest lol.
I love both prison break and Dexter imo prison break is overall a little better. I definitely respect your opinion though Dexter is still one of my all favorite shows. I’m praying for a good ending this time. 😂
@@AdityaaT100 I’d say it has two great seasons, a good 4th season, and two alright seasons, but none of them are as bad as Dexter season 6,7,8,and new blood. At least imo. Dexter does have more great seasons though. Prison break wins imo in terms of characters, story, plot, world building, and it has a better ending in my opinion. I respect yours though
I binged the whole show a few months ago, it's so amazing The edits are what got me into it, and I'm really glad I've seen them because they are the reason I saw Dexter
I just watched Dexter from Sep 2024 to Dec 2024. Not because of TikTok but because of someone telling me about it. Great show, terrible ending though. You are very right about shows today and one plot line. Shows today are like music today. Awful.
Older shows like Dexter have the advantage of not having "millennial writing" and forced woke inclusivity. There maybe some gay characters in Dexter, but they don't feel overrepresented and forced.
It definitely has something to do with a large part of the new generation of viewers being interested in series with protagonists with dark and questionable morals that can be seen in series like Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Punisher and Dexter itself..... but nowadays series of this type being made are rarer with almost no one risking to do something where the protagonist cannot be seen as a perfect good guy much less a serial killer and the ones that exist are not of very high quality and only make unlikeable protagonists instead of "evil" but charismatic protagonists like Dexter or Water White, so viewers go back to these classics that were successful before they started watching these types of shows
The writing is very clever from start to finish, and yes... the new Deb has yet to manifest in full the 1970s era foul mouthed "liberated" woman we grew to love, given that she is still inside the profound 1980s and/or almost 1990s chaotic angst of her teen years ... and Angel is letter perfect in either version! It is fun debating if Binney/Brian has been spotted and is about to show up in future episodes as we debate the scenes with Christian Slater in our minds eye, given what the flashbacks reveal. Normally his non-biological dad is an optimist about life, despite being a street cop, however in the original series, the scenes with HARRY were almost always bittersweet. I think Christian Slater has the acting chops to let us see his professional facade dropping, as we glimpse an inner turmoil. DENISE CROSBY played the first version of the psychotic "nurse" and that casting had been brilliant, given who TASHA YAR was inside the STAR TREK franchise. I quite like what they did with the way they handled his first real 'kill' that obviously was a trial run. The "new" nurse did a quite decent job with her small but pivotal role inside the greater story arc.
Thanks for making this video; the phenomenon you described, I think also applies when fan re-discover shows like Dexter or House and appreciate them again. Personally, I wasn't too happy with the later season of Dexter, but nearly 10 years after the Finale, I binged the whole show with my parents, and I began to like the later seasons of Dexter a lot more, despite the flaws. I think it also has to do with the format of these shows being released; watching episodes back to back, as opposed to waiting for a single episode weekly and taking it apart through criticism in the meantime. Thanks again, best wishes from Iran.
love to see Dexter getting more attention that it really deserves. im 25 years old still young but its really cool to see all the younger cats get into the show thanks everyone for watching and reviving the show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started watching it because I got a video recommended about Dexter where he was put up against various detectives to see who could or couldn't discover who's the bay harbor butcher. And seeing how proficient the character was in his domain, and how popular the show was, I decided to give it a watch. Especially since the first episode of every season was made available completely ad free on TH-cam.
I don’t watch Tik Tok. I heard a new Dexter show was coming out and I haven’t seen it in a long time and wanted to refresh my memory. It holds up so well, I rewatched the whole Seasons of 1-4 and 7-8. Just watched recaps for 5-6 as I didn’t enjoy those seasons as much.
I feel like a part of why this show is so popular is peoples perspectives on the way they view media change over time and with more shows like breaking bad, Barry and bojack horseman people are more willing to be critical of the title characters actions
I had never considered Dexter before my nephew told me I HAD to watch it.I thought' ah, what the heck' and gave it a try.10 Minutes into the first episode of the first season and I was hooked, with line and sinker.I absolutely love it.I think it's safe to say it's the second best show I have ever watched, only topped by 'Hannibal'. Shows were simply better back then than they are now.
I starting getting back into it due to paramount being smart with advertising. Being recommended clips and watching original sin and having season 10 to look forward to. It’s a good show, deserves to be relevant again.
I started watching in 2008. It's been my favorite show since then and I've watched it several times since. The new series are incredible! I'm so happy to see even more Dexter 🥰
It definitely sparked some curiosity. I started watching it 3 weeks ago and its interesting. I didn't even know the surprise mofo meme was from Dexter.
I finished the series 3-4 years ago, along with the new blood thing, and it impressed me a lot. At the time, I was angry and sad about it not being as popular, but now the show is so popular and I feel like I don't want that because my connection with the show has started to feel like it's just for me.
So me and my father are watching it right now because a few months ago, my parents met their friends. A friend watched Dexter with his wife and told my father about a nightmare he had after watching it.😂 My father got interested and used our Netflix account which he usually never does. I was coincidentally sitting on the sofa while he watched the first episode and we both were into it immediately. The first few weeks, I didn’t even realize that so many people are watching it right now and I found out that a bunch of my friends also just watched it.😄
This video is great and we got the same situation lol. I’m 20 too and my parents always watched the show so I heard abt it a lot. After seeing clips on tik tok and hearing how good it is from my parents for years finally made me watch it a couple months ago. I don’t rly watch tv and this show is one of the only shows I watched from start to finish. Now it’s my favorite show and I’ve watched new blood, watching original sin now, and I’m excited for resurrection this year. Definitely earned a sub and like too.

I’ve been wanting to get into it forever, finally pulled the trigger 4 weeks ago and I binge watched the entire thing. So freaking good
I'm glad it's gaining more traction. Dexter OS is also WAY better than I anticipated so far. I just hope they stick the landing on Resurrection.
This did NOT feel like a first video, great job dude. Subscribed.
bro looks like a ginger
early season dexter micheal c hall
I literally never heard of Dexter until my friend told me that I look like one of its characters and I checked it out.
My shorts and reels are all either Dexter, Breaking Bad, Family Guy or the Simpsons. I’m basically a watching these shows 1 minute at a time
I feel so old! I been a huge Dexter fan started watching from the beginning I remember being so excited every Sunday at 9pm on Showtime lol
The resurgence of Sam Darnold’s career on the Vikings has brought attention to show since he’s the Bay Harbor Butcher playing QB
Sam Darnold is a new one!
@@Dexterat first I thought it was Jim Lindsey
I first saw Dexter on Netflix a long time ago. To give you some perspective, I used to order the Blue Rays from Netflix when they used to send the discs to you via mail.
Love the Brian Moser fit lmfao.
someone noticed lol
@@JackTinny Wasn't even sure if it was intentional but this seals it, great idea
I started last week and I’m already on season 2 🔥
( 5:10 ) i just realized subscribe button turns red when its said to subscribe in the video 🤯🤯🤯🤯
awesome video man, found your channel on ig reel comments, I was also wondering why Dexter was getting so popular.
Great first video man
thanks :))
the big reason i enjoyed dexter and bingewatched it... it was dexter's voice... his voice kept me hooked.. his storytelling was weirdly calm
Also fell into the Dexter trap and started the show back up. On season 2!
(Watched the show back in 2010, last time I saw them)
Pretty good for a First Video (enormously good) congrats🎉
For this being your first ever Video, you did a great job, cuz i for sure thought you'd have done more videos before
haha thanks man
I've watched Dexter many years ago, and it has always been my favorite show, so imagine how happy i got when it became popular again.
Michael C. Hall just plays so well, and damn he is a good actor.
so i began watching it again lol.
when the show is so good you have to become one of the characters - ( i am literally brian moser )
I can't believe you were biney
i can't belive you're the sass nail miller
I can’t believe you were the ice truck shitter
It’s really awesome to see my favourite show I started watching in high school (over 10 years ago) become popular again
@@raymondsims7042prison break has only 1 good season, dexter has 4 good seasons
@@AdityaaT100 I’d say it has two great seasons, a good 4th season, and two alright seasons, but none of them are as bad as Dexter season 6,7,8,and new blood. At least imo. Dexter does have more great seasons though.
Prison break wins imo in terms of characters, story, plot, world building, and it has a better ending in my opinion. I respect yours though
@ Dexter season 1,2 and 4 are great seasons. Only meh or alright seasons are season 3,5 and 7. Season 6 and 8 are straight up bad.
I remember being obsessed with this show back beginning in 2011 watching old episodes first then till it ended. Season 4 is my favorite season.
here in Brazil dexter is also successful
I binged the whole show a few months ago, it's so amazing
The edits are what got me into it, and I'm really glad I've seen them because they are the reason I saw Dexter
There maybe some gay characters in Dexter, but they don't feel overrepresented and forced.
watched dexter for the first time ever last summer and it quickly became one of my favourite shows
It definitely has something to do with a large part of the new generation of viewers being interested in series with protagonists with dark and questionable morals that can be seen in series like Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Punisher and Dexter itself..... but nowadays series of this type being made are rarer with almost no one risking to do something where the protagonist cannot be seen as a perfect good guy much less a serial killer and the ones that exist are not of very high quality and only make unlikeable protagonists instead of "evil" but charismatic protagonists like Dexter or Water White, so viewers go back to these classics that were successful before they started watching these types of shows
The writing is very clever from start to finish, and yes... the new Deb has yet to manifest in full the 1970s era foul mouthed "liberated" woman we grew to love, given that she is still inside the profound 1980s and/or almost 1990s chaotic angst of her teen years ... and Angel is letter perfect in either version!
This channel truly has potential ngl
Jack Tinny is the bay harbor detective??
i really hate that name..
Good analysis. Subscribed!
Glad to say I didn’t watch Dexter cause of TikTok but scrolling thru Netflix shows and getting intrigued !
watched through it 3 times already, still finding new things i missed
love to see Dexter getting more attention that it really deserves. im 25 years old still young but its really cool to see all the younger cats get into the show thanks everyone for watching and reviving the show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started watching it because I got a video recommended about Dexter where he was put up against various detectives to see who could or couldn't discover who's the bay harbor butcher. And seeing how proficient the character was in his domain, and how popular the show was, I decided to give it a watch. Especially since the first episode of every season was made available completely ad free on TH-cam.
that's one nice first video, I thought you had like thousands of subscribers with that quality, keep up the good work
For a first video this is really really good, definitely subscribing
legend, thanks
Guys, what about uh communication? Trust?
Never heard of Dexter till some months ago and decided to give it a try a week ago, can't understand why i never heard of it till recently
I feel like a part of why this show is so popular is peoples perspectives on the way they view media change over time and with more shows like breaking bad, Barry and bojack horseman people are more willing to be critical of the title characters actions
man this is such a good work for a first video in the channel , i didn't even thought this were your first one , keep up bro good luck 👏
A friend watched Dexter with his wife and told my father about a nightmare he had after watching it.😂
My father got interested and used our Netflix account which he usually never does.
I watched Dexter on Netflix in like 2014/2015 when I was 14/15 never knew it left it’s been in my favorites since then.
