    Great Job. The weak part to these movements is the intermediate setting wheels, as they strip easy. When I got about a dozen of these movements from a watchmaker's estate, half of them had striped wheels. And whoever designed that center seconds hand certainly didn't win any awards.

    I got a 607 in my collection that I recently serviced.. runs great. Funny, a lot of them seem to have that short seconds hand.

    Very nice! I have a collection of about 10 760 and 761 watches - so of course I have almost as many parts movements! I wrote a blog post on these, if you're interested.

    Hey bud, you used a bit too much lube in the barrel. But you did a great job!!!

      I'm glad you said it. Less is more: just needs a few little dabs.

    Great job on this! Such a beautiful watch, but sad to think this was close to the end of the company in 1968. Would have been great if they just kept up with the cheaper Swiss imports and the quartz battery operated technology.

    Hey Mike. I am a new subscriber to you show, and by the way am loving it. The reason I started watching is my Dad pass this last year and I have some of his old watches that I want to try to fix. Have watching the video on the Bulova Accuquatz 2241 which I got running. Now I need your help with my great-grandfather pocket watch. It is a Hamilton 21j (sel.# 330431). I have had it in getting fixed for months now and he can't find the right stem for the winding mechanism. If you can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks and keep up what you are doing am lo

    Man this movement is so amazing. Does anyone know where I can find more info on the oils used to repair this watch? This movement is rare and the information differs so much.

    I have an old 1950s Lord Elgin, but it is different than this one. Mine is 25 jewels and has what I found out is a Roamer case. The stem and crown are two piece, The crystal is removed and the 884 movement falls out of the front.

    Great video and thank you!! I have been collecting watches since my Dad gifted me with his WW2 Elgin A-11 AF watch... I have fallen in love with the Elgin brand and just recently acquired a beautiful 27j 761 watch. Was hesitant to purchase from Ebay... because I familiarized myself with the idiosyncrasies of these USA made self winders and understand that parts are hard to find... but this one is in an almost new condition and runs perfectly... my question is on the dial: It's identical nearly to the one in the video except it states 27 jewels instead of 30... But mine does not say "Lord Elgin" only "Elgin" with the DuraBalance badge underneath... and also my back plate appears to be pry off and not screw down like yours. I don't want to risk taking off the back and damaging anything. If you would comment on both of those things I'd appreciate it greatly. (why the differences on the dial and back. Many thanks.

      Hello, I appreciate the kind words. Lord Elgin from what I read is applied to the "higher end pieces" probably determined by the jewel count (27 vs 30). But in all honesty the extra 3 jewels doesn't have a large impact on performance. My specific model was the "thin thin" which touted the thinness of the case. I am guesing they did screwback because it allows for a thinner watch and/or because it was the higher end model. Hope this helps!

    Very nice video. No criticism here but I was surprised at how much braking grease was used. I’m a hobbyist and still learning. Thank you for posting!!!!

      That's because it's too much grease 😂😂😂 read the upper comments, as more you use as worse it gets over time because it collects dust/dirt easier when it's more and will block the mainspring

    I've never seen anyone oil cap jewels in that manner before. I guess you really don't like messing with Incafix settings.

    didnt elgin watch co closed its doors on the 50s?

    • @dougsmith5735
      @dougsmith5735 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No. They continued producing watches in Elgin IL until 1964, and in Elgin SC later than that. They started importing Swiss movements in 1952 and those increasingly took over until by ~1964 they weren't making movements anymore.
