@godfreyphipps22 Festivals have pretty lousy sound quality generally, so it's not surprising that you got that impression. But go look at any live video of them where its not shrouded in crowd noise (I.E. Hot topic live sessions). He is really flat almost the entire time. His live range is all there but he doesn't sing IN key consistently.
@godfreyphipps22 And that's actually one of the worst places to be if you want to hear the vocals well. Vox comes entirely from the PA which are set up on the fringe of the stage, or flown up and away further, whereas guitar amps and drums all come from there AND on stage as well, aside from just being way louder than a vocalist. The further back you are the better you can hear the singer. Once again, I love Owens. Great writer and singer in the studio, but his pitch is shoddy at best live.
Personally, I think Bolmer upstaged Owens on the new record, but touring is where the real musicans come out and you don't have the comfort of a studio. Put up or shut up. And while the rest of Chiodos was the practiced and well-oiled machine that they always have been, it seems in these shows that Bolmer was nowhere near ready to play with a band of their caliber and touring strength. You can see him getting tired, faking notes, and even omitting parts. Meanwhile Owens is still going strong.
The drums rip in this video, love the double bass pedal.
Jason Hale for the win on this album. That’s right i said it.

@nofalltoofar Have you heard Owens live? He's an amazing song writer and studio vocalist, but he isn't any better live. He is consistently off pitch
Better live vocalist than Craig Owens in my opinion idc what anyone says!
He said Saint Tropez, not St. Louis 😭 put some respect on my city name
The Barefoot naked band....Chiodos

He's gotten better since Chiodos round 1. He actually was pretty terrible back in the day.
