Thanks for sharing! I have never heard of a Common Place book until I started looking at your TH-cam channel. I am new to creative journaling and am not a planner, but love the supplies. This is a great way for me to be creative and have a place for my ideas.
I'm so glad you found this video helpful! Happy creating!
I love how the pages came out. I have a common place bound notebook, but it lacks the function I desire most which is being able to move pages around and toss things I don't need anymore. Thanks for sharing your process, I hope you post more like it!
Happy to share! Hopefully I will have enough for an update video in a few months. 😁👍
I love how this turned out. I am trying to decide if I want to add dividers for my index sections.
I like the idea of using dividers, but it's definitely a personal preference. Good thing is you can always take them out if they don’t work. 😁👍
I've never heard of a common place notebook but i love this idea. I think I'm going to a little bit more research and give it try. Thank you!
You should! Happy I could introduce the concept to you!
I too am in the process of creating a common place notebook and plan to have mine in a A5 rings with dividers. Provides so much flexibility. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, rings offer that same flexibility, which I love! Glad you are creating your own!
This is a really timely video for me! I’ve been wanting to do a commonplace book, and I bought a coiled notebook for it, but haven’t started it yet - I just wasn’t sure about using a coil format. But discs - yes!!! The perfect format so I can move things around, take pages out, etc. I love all your decor/set-ups and appreciate you explaining what a commonplace book is, how you will use it, etc. I’m really excited to finally move forward with mine! Thank you Stephanie!!!
Yay! So glad it was helpful! Hope it leads to a more organized you. 😁👍
Girl! You are speaking my exact language!! I'm getting to work on my commonplace planner this afternoon! Whoop! So excited! Thank you for this video!❤
Yay! Excited for you! Happy that the info will help you get things organized. 😁👍
Wow! Another amazing idea🥰... I absolutely 💞 all tha vintage materials! I always get excited to see what u have came up with... can't wit you see what's next.. thank u🫶
I'm so glad! Thanks so much!
I like your set up. Being able to move papers around is a great way to set it up.
I think so too!
I love this idea and would love to learn more about Common Place Book
There are tons of videos out there for resources and I will do my best to keep you updated on my commonplacing journey.
Great set up! I have a discbound system too but you’ve inspired me to make it more visually pleasing 😊 I have a screenshot graveyard on my phone too - phomemo is a great idea ❤
So glad you got some fresh ideas for your setup!
Awesome video. I just ordered the dots washie! I do habit tracking and these are perfect. I currently use the disk bound happy planners. I love being able to take pages out to decorate, rearrange, etc. I'd love to create my own style, so I'm going to look into the dot grid pages you use. Thanks again for helping me find this video! 😂❤
😂 No problem! Happy to share!
Your set up inspired me to make this my garden journal!! I don’t know why I didn’t think of this
Awesome! So glad to hear it!
I love this idea. I have a couple of bound commonplace books and have to tab the topics. This makes it easier to organize. Also the neutral decor you used doesn’t detract from either the material you’re recording or the color dots for topics. Stellar!
I didn't think about staying neutral with the decor, but it does really allow the color dots to remain prominent. Happy accident!
Thank you Stephanie. Perfect timing. I love your setup.
Thanks! Happy to share!
Nice. Several months ago, I started compiling information on the civil rights movement in the United States. Although I know a great deal of history from that era, it's nice to house all this information in one place. Your idea of the concept is interesting, hope to see more content or a follow-up on how this is working for you.
I plan on it! 👍
Love this idea!! Will be doing it for faith things I save ❤️
That's a great idea!
I had never heard of commonplace planning but it makes a lot of sense. I’ll be making my own book too!
Nice! Hope you find it useful! 😁👍
I was excited to see you talk about this. I’ve always wanted to have a commonplace notebook. Blessings.
Glad you found the topic interesting. Hope you get around to commonplacing in the future!
I'd never heard of a commonplace book but I totally get it. I guess I do about the same thing in my "Notes" section of my planner for lack of anywhere better to gather ideas/info./lists. This is a cool idea.
I went back and forth on whether i needed a separate notebook outside of planner for gathering this kind of content, but my digital declutter really helped me see the need for it's own organization system.
I was so excited to see you had the Eisenhower Matrix on there. I put it in my regular planner, but I want a place for it where I can add more notes. Thank you for turning me onto common placing!!!
Happy to share! Hope it works well for you!
I screenshot in my phone too lol. They would get lost hahaha. When I got a new phone I go in every Sunday and put my notes in my notebook
Exactly my plan! I needed a system to handle the incoming digital clutter which is where this commonplace book will come in!
What a great idea with the discs and the dots! The dots will be a game changer for me! Please tell me about the printer, are you worried that the images will disappear from the thermal paper? Is it regular paper or sticker paper, and are the paper refills hard to find? I have never seen a printer like that before, only photo printers. Loved this first video, please add the commonplace book to your repertoire. Thanks!
It’s a handy printer which I do have a video on if you want the full overview. I haven’t had any issues with images fading, but I will say, I use the clear label paper most often. I used it for almost 2 years to make stat stickers for my health planner each week and haven’t noticed any fading. The company is on Amazon so refills are easy to get and they have a lot of options. Here is a link to the printer I got and the label roll I use: Phomemo M02 Mini Printer with 3 Rolls Transparent Sticker Paper: amzn.to/2Ao0aNA
This is how I'm going to do my next commonplace book. I read about them years ago & had to have one. Ha! More than one, but you know.... mine is purely functional - no decoration. But its a valuable resource!
I thought about foregoing the decor, but I knew it would get more use with that little extra something. :)
@@squairdplans well you know I struggle with decorations.
So it's a pinterest board in physical notebook form!? That's perfect!
Right?! So handy!
Would like to have watched but not even halfway through and I have had to watch 2 sets of 2 two minutes ads. I know it isn't a you thing, but I am moving on. Sorry. Came back this morning to try again. Had to watch a you tube premium add but finally got to see the rest. I like your take on commonplace book and hope you will update us as to how it is working. Visually, it is beautiful and has my wheels turning on how I can implement something similar in mine without redoing the whole thing. Mine is in a disc planner as well.
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you were able to finish the video, even with the add’l ads. I have been working on adding to my commonplace book these last few weeks, so hopefully I will have an update to share before EOY. 😁👍📒
I saw an Archer and Olive blog that was talking about Commonplace books. I bought a 8x8 journal to start one but now I think I may want to do a disc one. Can you please share other videos talking about commonplace books?
As far as resources, I didn't save any specific videos. I just searched commonplace book or commonplace notebook and watched whichever ones looks creative and interesting. There really wasn't much variation as far as the process is concerned.
Love the deco! I want to do this! Two questions: I didn't understand the use of the column near the discs, and also - you mentioned setting up dividers... if you have the ability to move pages around and put all the same topic in one section, is there still a benefit of color-coding? I love the idea of using screenshots for things you want to refer back to, and this looks like a really good way to "warehouse" those ideas, so you can delete the saves in socials or screenshots in photos. I really do think the deco in the bomb!
So the large margin is for notes on the reference, additions, updates, etc. It gives you the freedom to "enhance" the entry at a later time, if needed. And if I set up dividers, it would make the color coding unnecessary, but I could also see using the dividers for an overarching category and then using the color coding for subcategories within. Just some ideas...
@@squairdplansThanks!! I’ve been doing this in a HP notebook and didn’t know it had a name! Totally going to “dump” my screenshots and do some decorating. Appreciate the ideas. ❤
I'd love to watch this video but I have a hard time watching voice over videos. I don't know why but I know you provide great info. Happy Planning!
I understand. Have you tried just listening to VO videos? I find that it can help if the visuals are too distracting. 👍
I 'hear' you. lol! I think it is an auditory or visual processing thing. Things don't match quite like 'real time'. I find myself 'muting' at times and just watching. I love the spreads and info also.
Also, do you have a link to the washi tape dots, please?
Yes, sorry! Just added to the video description but here is the link:
Colorful Dots Washi Tape Dot Stickers, Set of 6: amzn.to/3EtHwA4
I just checked the link and the set of 6 is unavailable, but there is a set of 8 by the same company with the same roll colors included if you scroll down the listing page. 👍
I believe you are using a different pair of tweezers. I could not find them listed. Can you tell me please, where you purchased? Thank you!
Hi! My tweezers are standard eyebrow tweezers I got from Kohls many years ago (Brand: Elle) Because I got them so long ago, I don’t have a link to share.
Do you know of any other stores I can find dot grid A5’disc bound paper that is a good quality gsm and dots that aren’t too big? A big ask I know n
The Create a Notebook company that the cover came from, offers dot grid paper in 120gsm, which is very nice quality, but the size was a bit off from standard A5 in width. Here is a link to that: amzn.to/3SVFC4x
I also found a 100gsm set from TUL which also has quality products: amzn.to/4fQzC6P
Planything's set is really great though, so I hope she restocks in the future!
Where else can you get paper for this book? The link says sold out.

@@squairdplans thank you very much. Would A5 fit in it ok? Only asking because I bought an A5 wide planner to upgrade from an A5 and finding paper and people who make inserts for that size has been tough. Which has made me reluctant to buy any thing else that is an off size. Thank you for your time in answering my questions I appreciate it
@@deborahcorreale352I am using a5 paper in the create a notebook cover and it fits fine. Just note the accessories that come with the notebook will not match up to the A5 size.
@@squairdplans you are amazing thank you again.
