My name is Yianni (Ioannis Aliazis) & I am an Apnea Academy freediving instructor here on the island of Zakynthos.
So Arakawa Under The Bridge is one of my favorite anime.
This scene is my favorite from it, because of the message it conveys and because of my love of the sea as well, so I wanted to paint it in my guest room where I host freedivers who visit for training.
All in all it took me and Marina 5 days of roughly 2-3 hours a day, neither of us had painted anything before in our lives and the results are beyond amazing!
The message that the girl in the scene says is the following:
The whale jumps just as high as he can go.
He breaks through the surface, up to the very top.
Is his longing for the sky reflected in his eyes?
Suppose he finds out the sky isn’t the limit, that there’s even more beyond?
If he were aware of the warm glow of the endless galaxy, would he wish to go even higher?
Every creature is restless, without really understanding why.
Restless and alive.
Their hearts beat.
I found it so true and profound that it has really struck a cord!
