I wonder how it feels to know that literally, around the world, people are tuning into this channel and cheering you on! This has been so wonderful to follow!
I hope they're happy with their decision. There seems to be a bunch of stuff not yet even unpacked. I guess they'll see their day once the interiors begin.
Ah like the good old days, the recklessness, the disdain for life, the no-rope-things-on-roof. We all missed it, my nails were growing back but you solved it again. Thank you!
Watching you manhandled the machines around reminds me of myself when singlehanded humping large items about . Now in my 82 nd year it is well beyond my capabilities.
The sponsors, Axminster, were properly awesome by providing this top-notch professional equipment; doing the second stage of the project will see this gear being utilised to the max, I'm guessing! Fabulously tantalising to see how it gets to play its part(s)!! PS Very manly doing all that powerlifting of heavy kit, solo!
Great to see that your mum and nan have been there to see your progress. I'm guessing they are camera shy which is probably why you've never shown them. They must be so proud of you and all you have accomplished.😊
I truly enjoyed just a Dan day. I think you need a few temporary doors and enclose the windows as winter is coming and you need the equipment and lumber to stay dry.
It’s incredible to think that people from all corners of the world are tuning in and cheering you on! Following this project has been an absolute pleasure. 😍
Always fun to watch one man rebuilding a beautiful old chateau in the heart of not just France but the hearts of more than a half million people also, now minus the indoor trees and several tons of rubble, and plus four amazing roofs, four or five levels of flooring, one stairway and two totally maxed out workshops! Happy to learn Dan's mum and nan have been ere to see it also. Go Dan Go! 💙
The good old days indeed. We have got so used to watching you and the team, it seems ages since you’ve been by yourself. None of the risky behavior please. ❤❤
As much as I love Brian and Nick don't get me wrong! It was very comforting returning to a longer and more personal video with just Dan. It really did bring back the the old nostalgic memories! Thank you for everything you do for our entertainment Dan. Much appreciation from Australia. ❤🇦🇺
How wonderful for Dan to have his mum and nan visit. They must be so very proud of his unbelievable accomplishments, I know all his fans are. Sleep well lad K🇬🇧❤️❤️
Wow great organisation Dan and what great machines and tools ✅✅ Cat wait to see the workshop in action. Glad the other Dan was there to help with shovelling . 🤣🤣
I do remember those early days Dan …such fond memories …😄😊 just you and us … showing us how things can be done singlehanded … and sleeping in a pop up tent !! You have come such a long way …👏👏👏👏 Durban SA 🇿🇦
Great special effect with one Dan filling up the wheelbarrow and the other Dan taking it out to empty it. Imagine three of you? I bet you wouldn't agree on who's doing what 😀
Don’t forget to get those windows and doorways prepped in time for your wintry winds blowing through (don’t want to see those lovely new pieces of equipment getting wet) Good to see Dan working solo and wiggling and jiggling those pieces of equipment off the pallets. Love the “knocking out of the bricks” and voila a doorway 😂😂
Strangly moving to see you working on your tod. Reminds me of your monumental single handed achievements. Having said that, so glad you have a capable and fun team around you! Opening up the doorway was most satisfying to see. The first place I bought in the mid 70s was a stone cottage on the side of a mountain in Wales .Built about 1832, subsequent owners had blocked off and streamlined all over the place. I had great joy opening up the stoned up firplace to expose a monumental inglenook cavaty. Pointed up plus a decent size wood stove. Fantastic!! Good work, keep going!
Watching your epic progress in processing and construction of wooden structures i now have visions of you creating your own bespoke Chateau Chaumont furniture once the restoration is completed !
The history of changes in the building fascinates me, and every bit of knowledge that isn't found out now will be lost forever or for quite a while once the build continues. The big renovations were in the 1930s (before OSE) and in the 1960s (before the Chanel employees couple), and the bricks that Dan took down from where the old staircase had been looked more 1960ish than 1930ish to me.
I agree, those looked like post-WWII war bricks, but I can't guess whether they were so fragile due to exposure to fire, or if brick fragility is due to post-war resource issues and a feeble brick mix. Breeze blocks made with "coke breeze" (also called Concrete Masonry Units/ CMUs in the UK) were invented around 1900, but as you likely know, became popular in France in the 1920's. In the US we call them "Cinder Blocks", but they have the same source as "Coke Breeze"; they're named for the ash that forms when burning coal at high temperatures and used in iron production. (My interest comes from learning that I'm descended from a long line of blacksmiths who specialized in outfitting ships built in Duxbury, Massachusetts.) When were 'cinders' added to bricks in the US? Late 1700s. The first house in the US built with cinder blocks was in 1837 on Staten Island.
I can see the original thinking behind removing the stair, it makes for an actual turret room, as opposed to just a landing. The turret room is one, if not the most romantic room in the chateau, so it’s logical that they would want have wanted it to be a complete room. Great video as usual!
Nice to get that second shop setup so its ready when you are to put it to work. Sometimes it nice to be alone so there's nothing to break your concentration on things you're planning. Looking good and the team will be back soon!
After he has made the Chateau habitable, builds a woodworking barn, some cottages for students and places for classrooms, Dan will have room and lots of hands to learn woodworking and furniture crafting.
Wow great spaces in your chateau.....don't forget about the helpers rooms...lol. Best Chanel to watch by far. All your work ethics are top drawer! Love your wheel barrow edit.
🥳 Just amazing! really inspirational, we’ve bought an ancient French village that has been sat abandoned for 30 years in the heart of Normandy, gaining inspiration from your vlogs 🙏🏼 Thanks so much 🙏🏼🥳🥰 Y + P
Machines are great, technology is great, but what is even better than that it is being able to see you guys at work, isn't that wonderful, makes me wish I was there helping, great work!
It’s amazing what you can do by yourself when you need to & you’re motivated. I often surprise myself. Of course, Dan seems able to do almost anything he wants to.👍🏻
Nice work! You should add plastic to the Windows in the New shop before the snow falls! Also cover all the other windows, it Will make all the difference later!
Considering what you’ve achieved so far, in what is a relatively short space of time. The internal side of things should be a piece of cake in comparison! As stated many time previously, I am full of admiration for your determination, skills and knowledge! One of the best videos on TH-cam for certain!
Harder to do things by yourself but I find it often more relaxing to only have myself in my head. Great progress and so fun to see it move forward. Jim from Minnesota, USA
OMG! Stair restoration, yea! Over the weekend, TH-cam fed to me the vlog where The Historian brought the fire report, which SJ translated, but which also had the general plans for the old layout of Chaumont, with all of the staircases. Barely 24 hours later, and here's Dan, working on a stair project. Yea!!!
I’m glad this didn’t turn into the “Watch Dan Break His Foot” episode. You made the mother in me nervous taking the equipment off those pallets! Glad to see you smiling at the end. 🙂

This was a bit of a throw-back video: just Dan (except when he was helping himself!) and much more chatting to the camera - just like we all love!
Thank you, Axminster, for your sponsorship 🎉
I'm not familiar with woodworking tool brands so when I saw this comment before the gear was shown I thought Dan was carpetting the new workshop 🙂
