    The Ferrari Berlinetta has to be one of best looking castings, Matchbox ever made 😍

    As far as leaving the patina....nah. We live in an era when finds like this in the real world are rotisserie restored and auctioned for millions. You did right by this Ferrari. Job well done!

    Since it was buried , it's almost a resurrection. You did a great job of bringing it back to life... really nice restoration.

    That is a beautiful restoration! For my taste I would have removed the tow hitch and painted it red, but you did a great job! I have a Corgi Ferrari 512s that I will be restoring soon, and this video really helped me.

    5:10 that long plastic piece looks like a suspension spring, or if the axels are fixed on this car, it is a cushion to raise the interior casting.

    Great video! I have this in red. I painted it yellow with Testor paint when I was a kid and I want to restore it. What can I use to get yellow paint of the tires? The tires are the harder plastic and don't come off the wheels like the ones in your video.

  • @nascargas
    @nascargas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am certain you have already been apprised of the plastic piece under the seats. Watch some other restoration vids by Marty (Martys Matchbox Makeovers), Lee (Time Riders Wee Little Cars) , and Paul (Fat Guy Productions) from Beautiful Las Vegas. Rob (Matchbox Garage) from London and Danny (Danny's Diecast Disasters)from New Zealand. It is a suspension piece. Yep. Those clunky wheels never allowed early Matchbox to roll well because we had already with broken that plastic thing or it was warped from strenuous play.
    But thats what that is.

    • @WheelsNThangs
      @WheelsNThangs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I realize that now. This one doesn't seem to really do much of anything since there is really no room for the axles to move up and down in the slots.

    Fantastic restoration, just for information the plastic diamond on the bottom of the interior is a suspension piece. the axles rest on it and if you push down on the car it allows a little travel for the axel and for it to spring back. Often after all these years they will be a little bowed so no longer working as well as they once did, but with a little heat from a heat gun and careful bending back you can straiten them, not worth the risk if it is just going to be a display piece as they can be fragile and are easily broken, I speak from experience. :-)

    I am about to begin my first restoration ... my own model of this very car. Mine did not have the spoke wheels (though the model on display at the store did which is why I wanted it ...yes ... that was probably 51 years ago, but you can't get over the showroom betrayal!). I would like to put spoke wheels on my restoration. Is there a good place to go for those?
