First of all don't put all the blame on the children, they grew up there and their mother is obviously a white woman meaning it was up to the father to instill the culture in them but he clearly failed. My cousins abroad can speak igbo fluently while I that grew up in Nigeria can't even speak Igbo, my father never taught me and my siblings, and my mother is from the north. My dad was never really at home because of work that's why my siblings and I couldn't learn the language and so I have taken it upon myself to learn it on my own. The children can also learn on their own from TH-cam and several apps for learning Igbo if their father cannot teach them but this kind of problem is always because of the parent not the child.

Like we saynin my country from central africa its women who are the bearers of traditions and pass it down. That's why we call it mother tongue. It's usually mothers that teach the language to children, even tho the man does his part but it's the mom that keeps the tradition up. Reasons why in my trine we don't really do interracial

I watched a particular young man who came to zion ministries here in Nigeria,he spoke so fluently that even Prophet Ebuka Obi himself was amazed and everyone was glad to have him around, that was possible because his parents programed them properly, this one we just saw is a fault from their parents, this is my humble opinion

It IS ONLY IN IGBO FAMILY THAT YOU WILL SEE IN WESTERN WORLD, WHETHER THEY ARE MARRIED TO FOREIGNERS OR THE SAME IGBOS that there children can either speak Igbo or even recognise their names or where their parents came from.
Meet Yoruba families in western world in the same category, their children speaks Yoruba and knows how to greet you in Yoruba language and where their parents came from.
I have come in contact with lots of Igbo people in western world.
The names given to their children are ENGLISH NAMES.
You can see that the father of these kids is EVEN ASHAMED of himself by not allowing them to answer the questions you were asking them because he knows he has FAILED as a father.
They blame the country’s government where they live but that’s total lies.
Igbo people are the only ethnic group that PREFER OTHER CULTURES THAN THERES.
Shame- the same goes to that family in Imo, Anambra, Abia,Ebonyi, and Enugu SPEAKING ENGLISH and GIVING ENGLISH NAMES to their kids because they are not different to these ones.

The culture of a child is that in which it grows up. It boils down to what is relevant in their day to day life. So it's a matter of location and how in tune you are with where you call home. Home is not where your parents were born or even where you were born for that matter. Home is where you find acceptance and peace. If the boys choose to relocate back to Nigeria then they have to learn the Nigerian/Ibo culture. Right now it's just an academic exercise with no relevance to their daily lives.

Teach the children the ways of the Lord that is the most important, let their soul be saved , you teach them your culture or not, one day every thing will end in the grave and hell if they don’t know Jesus, teach them the way of the Lord.

Leave them alone abeg. When you use igbotic accent to speak queen’s English, does anybody disturb you? Let them use their foreign accent to speak Igbo too. It’s allowed.

Why do you blame anyone? It’s a matter of choice. If they are not interested ( the parents, that is), then so be it. There is no rule that says children of a particular tribe must be steep in that culture. There is no blame here.

You don't blame the parents if the children were born in the Western world or outside Nigeria. By virtue of where they were born, they are entitled to adopt the culture and language of the country in which they were born. It appears that these children are of mix race. Therefore it is difficult for the children and their mother or father who is not an indigene of Nigeria or Ibo to speak or communicate with the children in Igbo language. This is indirect racism taking place here unknowingly. We think only of our language and culture in a mix marriage. What about the culture of the other partner in the marriage who is not a Nigerian. It is good to suggest that the children should learn the Igbo language when they are young because children are naturally linguistics. Therefore it is the duty of the Nigerian partner in the marriage to organise teaching the children the Nigerian language of the Nigerian partner in that marriage if they so desired. Again it is to the children's advantage to learn one of the parents language if they are in the Western world or outside Nigeria. But where both parents are from the same place and country, the parents should speak to their children in their own Nigerian language. Definitely the children will learn the language of where they were born at school or when playing with their friends. Cases in point for example are the Chinese and Asian parents who are from the same country and place. They speak to their children in their languages from the moment their children are born. This is what Nigerian parents should do. The worst is in Nigeria where both parents are from the same ethnicity and their children born in Nigeria don't speak in any Nigerian language but in English. Now you can learn any language on line.

I have a nephew in the uk 🇬🇧 with a British dad, he speaks Esan more than his cousins in Nigeria 🇳🇬. I have another set of nephews and nieces in the UK 🇬🇧 with a Latvian 🇱🇻 mother, they speak Latvian like indigenes, meanwhile they are born and brought up in the uk 🇬🇧 . So it’s the parents who are responsible, for abandoning their language.
