    Great and informative video, I would love to see more flies and tactics that you are using. I caught a few over the last years but nothing as big as you got there. Really enjoyed your video, hopefully there are more to come!

    Nice video, some lovely fish, I’ve never fished that far up before ,dunadry Presbyterian church is as far as I’ve went, looks a nice stretch of water from clady river part and up towards dunadry hotel, must give it a go next year!

      Thanks David and yes that weir pool (‘ the ‘BMC’)above the Clady can be very productive. Tight lines for next season! 🎣👍👍

    Lovely-thank you. Fished a fair bit in the Republic as far as Donegal (Once) from Wales but never fished in (Or been to) Northern Ireland. Have to put that right....!

    Do you mind me asking where some of the good spots for Dolleghan are? I got a day ticket for the 6 mile last week and while I caught plenty of little brownies I had no idea where the good Dolleghan pools might be. Although it was very shallow and may not be very many in at the moment and fewer deep pools.

    • @AndrewMcGall
      @AndrewMcGall  ปีที่แล้ว

      Still a bit early for the dollaghan Luke, should start to appear in numbers next month, especially if the rain continues. Once they start running they will be found right through the river. The stretches around Dunadry can be good and are mostly featured in the video. Tight lines

    Top class video Andrew, thanks for sharing. Just wondering are you use a sinking poly or sinking fly line for the day fishing?

    • @AndrewMcGall
      @AndrewMcGall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Richard 🙏 and was just using an inty tip but got the depth by using the conehead tube. I did have a full inty line but found the other combo was working so stuck with it 🎣😊👍

    Hi Andrew, some cracking fish there, well done!
    I would love to know what length and weight of rod you are using? the fly line you are using too? the set up looks real nice!

    • @AndrewMcGall
      @AndrewMcGall  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Jon 🙏 and glad you enjoyed it 😊🎣👍.
      In terms of the set up - that day I was using a 11.6ft 5# switch rod. It’s approx #8 single hand rated so similar to what most people would use for single hand salmon fishing. These were pretty standard size dollaghan but they grow to over 20lbs so most people would use 10ft 7-8# rods in case they hook a ‘biggie’. The line I was using was a floater with 5ft sink tip, but people commonly use a full intermediate to get the flies down to the fish (dollaghan generally like a fly fished deep and slow). The water was on the high side that day so I used a heavy cone head tube to get the depth. Hope this helps Andrew

      @@AndrewMcGall Hi Andrew, thank you so much for the detailed reply! im generally new to fly fishing on my small local river in Belfast, but i hope to branch out one day and try my hand at a salmon or a dolloghan and would like to go into it prepared instead of completely blind. I appreciate the help, thank you and tight lines!

    What weight rod would you recommend for the 6 mile? My 4wt might struggle with a 20lb trout! Would my 7wt be overkill?

    • @AndrewMcGall
      @AndrewMcGall  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Luke - a lot of the fishing is at night when the bigger fish come out to play 😄🎣, and most people use a 10ft #7 or #8. During the day the fish tend to be smaller and a #5 normally fine, exception would be in bigger water like this vid when a 7or 8 weight be again my choice. Hope this helps Andrew

    • @AndrewMcGall
      @AndrewMcGall  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Frank 🙏 and those were just small ones 😄🎣. The white spots are fungal infections that are quite common later in the year, unless it gets very bad the fish usually recover when they return to the Lough

    Andrew what size executioner would you use during the day and night , and what size for salmon and dollaghan, great video 👍👍🎣🎣

    • @AndrewMcGall
      @AndrewMcGall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Stephen and Executioner great all round fly. Size depends lot on the water conditions, in the video I was using a size 8 as water was pretty high. When lower and during day I’d normally scale down accordingly, right down to 14 or 16 in low water and bright conditions. At night I usually go up again and for dollaghan in particular you generally need to get down and fish deep and slow
