I've owned 4 VW buses in my youth and I loved them all, I used to go through a post barrier where a normal car couldn't squeeze through but my bus would squeeze through with no problem lol.
I had same 1970 model as my 1st car. It would easily go through mud and bad quality roads also going well through snow - all due to rear engine mount and rear whells drive and height. All maintenance I was doing myself incl. engine repairing after taking it out of the car. All was possible to be done with few Basic tools only. Loved this car …😢
After driving a bus 12 yrs I LOVE the INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION (use Komi Stock Shocks)-(the KYB Gas shocks are too stiff) + Very High CLEARANCE! I have crossed RIVERS and Rocky Roads many a day😮
These days you cant have independent suspension ,now all do is cost cutting instead they fool buyer with screens and rubbish tech features , All modern cars are piece of crap back then Quality matters

I bought one of these last year and love it! Mine is a crossover model with the type 4 pancake engine.
The roots of this vehicle were built for nearly all road conditions. It’s only In it’s second generation.
