  • Today I'm planting evergreen trees that were in containers for winter interest into the garden. I have 2 The Blues Blue Spruces, and one Weeping Norway Spruce that I picked up on clearance last year and had in pots all winter long. I never watered them, but they ended up all surviving and putting on new growth this spring, so I thought let's plant them out. I think evergreen trees are the perfect thing to add to your containers for winter because most are drought tolerant, extremely hardy, and will give your pots structure and color even in the coldest of times. Taking down a container at the end of the season is bitter sweet when it looks so good, but it opens up opportunities for the summer :)
