quantum levitation, also known as quantum locking, is a phenomenon that occurs when a superconductor is placed in a magnetic field and is cooled to a temperature below its critical temperature. The superconductor expels the magnetic field, creating a perfect diamagnetic state, where the magnetic flux lines are frozen in place.
Zero friction technology for trains
Almost there, there is still air friction
Zero friction...as long as you can keep the surface below -100+ C
Only for bullet trains
@@t2flasagn976 That's why idk but some people are creating hyper loop which runs in vacuum which eliminates air friction. It's just in prototype stage yet.

For anyone wondering, this is a super conductor which is in a really simplified way just an incredibly strong magnet with an almost none resistance (a perfect super conductor would have a resistance equal to zero). They are used in very specific and complex machines like the most complicated machine ever built - which is the Large Hadron Collider. There, the super conductors are used to accelerate the particles to almost the speed of lighht. Hope this helps.
Well said 👍🏻

I'm a 15 year old boy and I wonder why can, t do something like that but just bigger with cars so cars could float and that is better that the friction between the wheels and the floor right or is it because cars are just too heavy
@@Y_J_R The problem is that superconductors can only work in really low temperatures, like -170 degrees Celsius. That makes them really expensive to make and they aren’t suitable for cars yet. Scientists are actively looking for a superconductor that keeps its properties in normal temperatures but they haven’t been found yet. Probably the first person to discover such a superconductor will win the noble prize in physics/chemistry.

For those who don't understand, the circular magnet was supercooled and transformed into a super strong magnet. It's magnetc forces are now strong enough to oppose the earth's gravity

At very low temperature its shows perfect diamagnetism
ok I'll be the explainer,
A superconducter (the Black disc here) has a property called Diamagnetism which in simple terms is that it will always align it's own magnetic field in the opposite direction to that of a external magnetic field, or it always forms like poles hence gets repelled. Now the interesting part is that all practical superconductors have tiny holes or defects in their structure leading to some external magnetic fields to pass through them locking the disc over the magnets, hence the levitation.

I feel like magnets strong enough to hold a car up at the heights you expect a "flying" car to be at would absolutely destroy everything around them.
exactly, if by “flying” you mean “hovering 3 centimetres off the ground”

magnets get stronger when you cool them down because of the thermal energy inside of it gets lower and the tiny magnetic domains gets arranged and more aligned and enhances it and becomes stronger. Because of that it has enough force to go against gravity and float.
