The newest video update shows the progress of our Malinois puppies, who are now between 5-6 weeks old. Their senses are becoming more refined every day as their sight and hearing continue to improve. They can now react and track a clicking sound made by anyone in the pack.
At this age, we believe it is crucial for them to have exposure to a variety of people of different ages, as well as new voices and smells. After Sunday's dog training, we invited a group of families to meet and interact with the puppies, which allowed them to experience a range of new impressions.
We also observed them biting into different toys and cloths, which helps to develop their jaw strength and sharpen their teeth. This litter has a pretty even character, which is not always the case in Malinois pups.
Our cat is usually outdoors when we play with the puppies. They are now aware that the cat is not a dog but something else, and they have to respond to his behavior. One of the pups even showed interest in the cat's tail. These experiences will help the puppies cope with new situations in the future.
As police dogs, they will spend a lot of time in the car. After playing, we started to put them in the car to sleep for 1 to 1.5 hours. This way, they can get used to being in the car. Next week, we plan to take them on a small car tour to visit a friend.
This age is all about impressions. The more they see, the better they will cope with new situations later on in life. Pascalle made a noise, and the puppies followed her to our training hall, which is about 70 meters from the house. The hall provides a new location, new smells, and new impressions, and the puppies all did great.
At 5 weeks old, we can start doing more with these puppies, such as training, socialization, impression-building, and character development. We aim to introduce them to new people, kids, and other animals whenever possible.
