What do you mean? There's no school for building LEGO machines, and nobody taught me the programming, I just tried until I found out how to make things work, that's all there is to it... Nothing you need to learn before you can start.

People buy the education kit since it comes with so many technic pieces, a full ev3 kit with all the battery stuff, and etc. they sell the metal ball since it doesn't really show worth in projects.
One of those magnet toys with the metal balls and plastic bars with little magnets at the ends that you use to connect to each other to make structures, don't know what it's called though...

The lego ev3 education core set comes with one but I don't know if it is in the commercial set. :/Pretty sure you could find it on bricklink!

They are called Magnetix but they are banned in the americas but i thibk they are available in europe
